  • Wow! This is an amazing optical illusion!

  • hi

  • i am searching for a box which is completely made of mirror with no leaks and then see if we can trap sunlight in it... !

  • @imranbug81 i hope your joking.

  • @Cannball16 nope i though of this when i was 7 still never found out if some one have tried this.................

  • @imranbug81 its impossible.

  • @Cannball16 any logical reason why its impossible !!!

  • @imranbug81 because it would be like full of shadows, duhhh..think about shadows..>.>

  • @Cannball16 whos shadow ?? :-/ ur shadow or my shadow ?

  • @imranbug81 Sorry I'm gonna crush your 7 years old dream : Everytime a mirror reflects a light, not 100% of it is reflected (A bit is absorb). You know light travels really fast, so in a full mirror box, the light would be absorbed in a few seconds.

  • @BassSpleen i guess i will have to stick with the bulb idea for nights then :D

  • AWESOME! I just saw the House episode where he cures the military veteran with the amputated arm with a box like this.

  • what if someone lost their right arm and their left thumb... what a terrible world we live in.

  • Im doing this in my Year 12 Psychology , i was thinking if say you had a scare on your left hand for a long time and your brain has gotten use to seeing that scare for some time and you lose your left arm in a accident or medical issue , and you get pain in that limp , would this solution still work? because your right hand does not have the scare and therefore wouldn't your brain know its the same? If that made sence to anyone your a mad dog :)

  • @randayanday Or a tattoo?

  • @elliotmotoX yea! i wonder if this technique would still work

  • @randayanday

Just scar the remaining hand. That would make the reflection look like the original.

    PS: woof

  • pretty cool. is one supposed to lean to the left so one can see the effect?

  • Netshows likes this video and we invite you to promote it and have it featured on the Netshows Website (netshows.us)

    ~Chic and Peter

  • vid wouldnt play for some reason, all I got was a blue screen,

  • how would you go about using it on a missing leg... it seems that it might be a bit more difficult

  • very interesting !

  • Wouldn't it be occasionally useful for the side of the box furthest from the reflective side to have a top? Even if there are times when you'd want it opened, seems they'd be occasions when having it closed would help prevent seeing the hand.

  • Excellent video. Rama is pure genius. I've watched many of his lectures (all I can find online) and I loved his book Phantoms In The Brain. It remains one of my favorite books.

  • Did you happen to see the House episode that used & explained the Phantom limb mirror box. I was trully happy to see that; If not for the only reason that atlease 3 people bought it up to me because of the show. They never knew of that method for some failed medical reason. I give you kudos for your great looking box. The 2 that i'v made were complete junk compaired to yours.

  • I wish there were a phantom limb box for psychiatric traumas. It might help eliminate the need for much of the medication.

  • This box was used in an episode of House MD this month

  • Yes, "Hose" used this technique in a totally preposterous, unrealistic way and got instantaneous, miraculous only-on-TV results. If Hose is so damned smart, why can't he cure his own limping and bitching?

  • @NorwalkPost

    because that's just too easy

  • i'm reading ramachandrans book on phantoms (after being introduced through doidge's book) and failed to imagine what the box looked like. now i know, thanks.

after reading about alleviating pain in phantom limbs through imagined amputation, i have an idea about how to alleviate persistent pain in actual limbs through a similar procedure.

  • Hi Andrew

Do you use this with people experiencing complex regional pain syndrome? It's something we've been doing at the pain management centre in which I work - would love a video if you have been!

  • Buena onda ^^)v

  • damn, you can help a lot of people with that invention
