Maybe, but on the matter of Mr. Shatner, he has won a few Emmys in the past couple years on Boston Legal, which was a heck of a show. So Mr. Shatner isn't exactly short on resume items lately.

I agree a rivalry can be great publicity, but Mr. Takei has been saying stuff for a long time, so I'm not so sure it is a "work" as they say in pro wrestling.

Takei's last big TV gig was on "Heroes" where he had a recurring role. So he's not really out of the business.
