I'm also a collector of autographed & inscribed books. Over time, depending upon the author & the book, they can become quite valuable. I've got books from the 1700s-1800s/leather-bound, & autographed/inscribed w/many others more recent. I've given books away after having an autograph/inscription 4 gifts 2 friends/family.

If I find I can get the book & send it to the author for an inscription (ie more valuable than autographed depending upon the book, publishing, & binding) whenever possible. This way, they not only get their fav book, but the autograph/personal inscription w/it 4 a personal touch as well as the chance it will increase in value over time. Several of my books are quite valuable,tho not 4 sell.

@IrelandRaven I DO NOT SUPPORT PALIN & what she did was atrocious. No author would leave a signing set up in this matter. I'm a freelance writer & have been for a long time. I'm also a collector of autographed & inscribed books. Over time, depending upon the author & the book, they can become quite valuable. I've got books from the 1700s-1800s/leather-bound, & autographed/inscribed w/many others more recent. I've given books away after having an autograph/inscription 4 gifts 2 friends/family.

If I find I can get the book & send it to the author for an inscription (ie more valuable than autographed depending upon the book, publishing, & binding) whenever possible. This way, they not only get their fav book, but the autograph/personal inscription w/it 4 a personal touch as well as the chance it will increase in value over time. Several of my books are quite valuable,tho not 4 sell.

My books will be passed down to my children when I am gone & it's my hope they will pass them down to their children.I gave DH a 1st edition, inscribed copy of a book signed by 1 of NASA's directors of 25+ yrs; the author played an instrumental role in the Apollo 13 mission to bring our astronauts home. DH went to college for Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering so it's rather special to him + it will increase in value in time
