the series has potential, if JJ keep away from the directors chair and they come up with a story with meaning...but still fast tence, like "the ultimate computer" or "balence of terror" but with kligons
It appears that the Original crew found the new movies as painful as I did. If only Kirk had destroyed it b/f I watched it. I believe that the new ST proves one basic principle, it doesn't matter how much noise & explosions you put it in a movie. Those things alone will not make a story. I thought it was impossible (in absolute terms) to make a worse ST movie then Nemesis. Sadly, I was wrong.
@Velocity9s: Maybe that a bit of an exageration. Really, on reflection, I would have to say that your name would have to be George Lucas to make a worse movie then Nemesis.
@VictorLepanto I think if various scenes that were cut from "Nemesis" had been left in, it would have been a better film. I want a "Director's Cut" of that film!
This was funny! Maybe JJ was trying to rationalize the plot goofs like how a Starfleet Cadet caught cheating on a test, can get promoted to starship captain in one day.
wow "what happened to the stars?" is spot on. These 'parodies' are awesome. There are lots of them like those hitler video's only these tend to be always funny. Keep 'em coming.

I can't totally hate 2009 because it got me to become interested in TOS. But the things is, the more I immersed myself in the original, the more disillusioned I become with 2009. Spock in particular was so out of character for me. Fraternising with a subordinate? Marooning Kirk on DV for arguing with him? Kissing Uhura in public. He seemed more Sylar than Spock. And what ever happens to all the social messages TOS always seemed to carry. Brains indeed had been replaced for brawns.
@Jack1981ish I agree. Most of the cast didn't bother me, with the exception of Spock & Sulu, which I felt seemed a bit dead. Three main things killed the movie for me: 1) What little plot there was made no sense 2) They replaced intelligent themes & moral dilemmas with mindless action 3) The way they used the "alternate timeline" as an excuse to make the crew behave WAY out of character (Uhura & Spock?? Are you kidding me???)
@Jack1981ish Very true. I didn't hate every aspect of the film. In fact there were some aspects I thoroughly enjoyed, but sadly, they weren't enough to save the movie. As I exited the theatre, I was left with such an empty feeling. I thought, "Is this all Star Trek has become now? An excuse for CGI, explosions, cliche villains & shiny lights? Where was the story? Personally, I loved the new movie and though I think you're being a teensy bit unfair I love all your videos! They're very clever and funny. I love when Spock bashes the comm. in! XP
@luigi19987 In HollyWood you only get one film for a chance. Nemoy made three hit films in a row and his forth one was a bomb. Did hollywood say "lets give him another chance"? NO! Frakes mad a hit movie, when his second one did not do as well did they say "lets give him another movie"? NO! What makes Jar Jar so damn special?
I don't agree with your views, but your satire is most excellent, and I have playlisted all 4 that I found. Verrrry funny editing/reactions from TOS crew!
I'm a huge fan of TOS, and I also loved the new movie. I don't see why some people are finding it so difficult to accept IV as a positive thing for the franchise. It's a great homage to the original crew, and it's bringing in a ton of new fans. What's wrong with that?
Seriously, there are worse Trek movies out there. Much worse.
I kindly ask, when was the last time you watched Star Trek V? As a movie you are right not that good and the FX, well the studio refused to use ILM for the movie. to expensive. But the story would have made a good TV episode. It dealt with mans quest to meet God. Any one who believes in God would love to meet him with out dying, just like Mosses.
I watched V about a year ago. I find it difficult to sit through because the execution is so awful. I agree that the concept was good, but it takes more than a good concept to make a good movie. If it were handled better, with a more well-constructed story, better dialogue, better character interaction, better effects, and tighter editing, it could've been really interesting. As it is now... it's just... bad.
Exactly my point ST:V has great potential. But ST(2009) Does not. Give this new movie the look of Star Trek V and bam! you see for what it really is, garbage with ass much substance as a shadow on a wall. I'm serious, remove the razzle dazzle and the new movie would not even be as good as the Star Wars Holliday Special. We all know how awful that was.
While the new movie does fall flat storywise, it is fun to watch. It is not the same type of entertainment as the other films. This is meant to be a popcorn fun summer blockbuster and it succeeds on that level. While it will never approach my attachment to Next Generation, DS9, or the original series, I did enjoy watching it. I'm not arguing that the story wasn't flimsy, because it was. I'm just saying, it was fun to watch.

But Star Trek was invented by Gene Rodenberry to combat popcorn Sci-Fi. "Ive seen Sci-Fi movies in the past, but I always thought not enough characterization not enough motivation." "Star Trek deals with the human condition, to improve and improve." These are Roddenberrys exact words. He never wanted his only hit to ever be about explosions and destiny. Rodenberry never believed in destiny. he believed we can do what we want "Because man is clever".
This is true. And they are not following what we would see as Gene's vision at all. However, for what they were trying to do, it was well-made. Issac Asimov would be spinning in his grave at the Will Smith remake of "I Robot." However, for what they were trying to do with "I Robot," I feel it was well made, as is the new Star Trek. "Star Trek" and "I Robot" stray far from the creators' original visions, but that doesn't make them bad films. It makes them divergent from the original material.

First off I robot is not a remake. Second Isaac Asimov hated any one who altered his work even a hair. The two does not compare. Third, I have pointed out over and over that even as a stand alone film it is really bad. In the original series the made sure that the ships never got to the point of the artificial gravity would not work. They did get close. ST:V at least had a good reason, for her to in panties. I sill would like to know where the fans came from. LOL.
Remake was a poor choice of words. I meant "adaptation." I believe they do compare as the original art is being altered, regardless of the medium, from the artist's intentions. Your arguments about the new film's complete failure are not convincing to me, but I don't feel this series of ranting comments is getting us anywhere. Let me just say, while I disagree with your reasons, I respect your right to feel as you do about the new film. That said... I can't let the Uhura thing go...
Uhura had NO good reason to be fully nude in ST: V. (NUDE... not panties). So they want to disable some guards... why not stun them? Or if you want to play the lovesick thing, why does she need to be nude? Not to mention the fact that she was like 50 or 60 in the movie... I mean... NO!!! There's just no way I can forgive that scene! That was just wrong and unnecessary on... so... many levels!
But wasn't Kirk in this movie clever? I walked out of this movie thinking, "Wow, even without a motivating dad, and good relations with his Vulcan buddy Kirk could still be captain." On that subtle level I came away with the idea that we are not the sum of the events in our lives. So it still worked.

Clever? No! A clever man would not have just sat there smug looking while he cheated on a test. He would put on a big act and made it look harder then it was. A clever man would have fowned a way to get out of his punishment insted of getting his best frend to sneek him a board. A clever man would not have provoked Spock, but made Spock realise the best corse of action was going after the ship with out renforcements. A clever man would not have been thrown off the ship. Need I go on?
Dude, he had a different upbringing. Original timeline he was better at being a cheat. He was commended originally. In this timeline he was being punished for being a smug prick. I loved it!
In the end he still became a Captain, and he still took Spock for his first officer.
Still can't deny the "Events in your life don't define you." course can you?

I have no say in who up thumbs or down thumbs a comment. Of course you have the right to your opinion, everyone else has the right to say whether a comment is good or not.
Also, to the lucky jack-ass statement: and Kirk int he original timeline was not? Yeah, this is a cut the corners sort of Kirk, but he'll learn. He was built up in this movie to learn. I'm sure we're still going to see a learning Kirk in the next film... Just like we did in the rest of Trek.
Uhm, no. If he cries hard enough he gets dumped on an ice planet.
Stuff didn't start happening until Original Spock helped him out with a few pro-tips. That's when Kirk had a... plan! Then he actually worked with his crew, including the with the Spock that he didn't like.
!And what are the odds of finding Spock on that Ice planet let alone survive? The only guidance he gave Kirk was to "go pick on my younger self"(Paraphrasing). Be sides I knew a kid raised by step fathers who never knew their fathers they turned out just like the rest of us. No Anger. No Rebellion. The whole thing is DUMB!
Chekov did not forget. Kahn This is Cetialfa5!!!!" (later)"You thought this was Cetialfa6? Ah!" Spock was right their and slowed Kirk down as fast as he dared. The last one you are right. You see it does not happen all the time. As for my friend, his situation has no exceptions. Only kids who knew their real parents have rebellious attitudes. That is reality vs. Hollywood Barbra Streisand.
Sure pale, whatever you say about the rebellious kids ::rolls eyes::
It was still pretty stupid for the Federation not to notice an entire planet exploding and then forgetting to remember to label all of their planets correctly. Overall you're just rationalizing and making excuses LIKE EVERY FAN or ANTI-FAN does.
Back to my first point: I was raised by my biological parents and everyone says I came out just fine. You can't make broad assumptions about people like that.
I roll the eyes right back to you. (yuck! eyes! gross!) There are thousands of planets in the Federation it takes years to catalog them all especially ones that are considered primitive. this is the rational given by Harve Benet back in 1982 during a Star Trek Convention. Watch "Space Seed" & "Wrath of Kahn" again. As for the broad assumptions on my part I can I'm a student of psychology. & we studied the family values of all kinds. You wanted experts. I learned from the best.
Why is it stupid? Space is very big and the federation doesn't have any bases near the ceti alpha system and neither is it a part of their space. So why, amongst all the other things they have to do like defending themselves from the Klingons, would they keep a watch on a solar system that has people there they've exiled there to live alone?
The kobashi maru originally used in star trek 2 meant something to the character. In the new movie it does not, he doesn't really care and he's just doing it to be cocky. Why should I care about that?
Clever? No. He showed none of the resourcefulness of the old kirk. Like kirk's ability to bluff himself out of a situation.
"We are not the sum of the events in our lives"
Bullshit. The idea that you don't need any sort of experiences in your life to make you the fully developed person that you could be is ridiculous. If you don't have any kind of experiences how can you learn anything and apply it to your own life?
Regarding ST V: It did have potential, but potential is not enough to make a film good. A film can have lots of potential but still fail to deliver. Likewise, a film can be shallow, but have amazing people working on it who are able to keep it interesting. In this way, Star Trek 11 is better than V. Yeah, the story is shallow, but it delivers on almosy every other mark.
"delivers on almost every other mark"? Like ice monsters with out fur, Artificial Gravity still working when there is no ship left, Corny dialog stolen from every show ever put on TV, Inconsistent characters, poor musical score that just repeats every5 minutes over and over, and don't forget the lens flares every 3 minutes. (you need sun glasses just to see the picture.) by the time the movie is over the audience is blind and deaf. The only mark this movie hits on is explosions and boobs.
My opinion: there is no rule stating that ice monsters must be furry. The artificial gravity should've failed lots of times in the TV show too, but it doesn't. I disagree about the dialog, and I felt the dialog succeeds in conveying them as real people. The music is not poor, but it's not special either: sort of like TNG's later music and DS9's early music. However, I will give you the lens flare and the boobs. Uhura topless was unnecessary, just as it was in ST: V. Actually, it was worse in V.
the version of star trek people saw was a fake imitation without the spirit or vision that Roddenberry had.. OK its a fun fantasy adventure but that its... No message, no aspirations...
This movie can be forgotten in a couple of hours.
Basically it was crap, made by people afraid to express a bold opinion about how the world SHOULD evolve.
I thought the new film was fun. It had some elements of trek like Kirk's struggle to become a great man, and spock dealing with the whole human/vulcan side.
I will concede t hoguh that it can be forgotten in a couple of hours.
I thought DS9 was kind of pushing it even though i did love it...but, this crap may make roddenberry rise from the grave and beat down abrhams and BERMAN.
I know Berman was widely responsible for driving Trek into the wall, but let's remember he had nothing to do with this. I'll give him that much. This was purely J.J.

Oh yeah, and for the guy that was raised by foster parents: good for him. Not so much for Kirk.
I know you don't like the film, but now you're just working too hard.

BondFreek 2 years ago
Sure pale, whatever you say about the rebellious kids ::rolls eyes::
It was still pretty stupid for the Federation not to notice an entire planet exploding and then forgetting to remember to label all of their planets correctly. Overall you're just rationalizing and making excuses LIKE EVERY FAN or ANTI-FAN does.
Back to my first point: I was raised by my biological parents and everyone says I came out just fine. You can't make broad assumptions about people like that.
TheWindClaw 2 years ago 14
I roll the eyes right back to you. (yuck! eyes! gross!) There are thousands of planets in the Federation it takes years to catalog them all especially ones that are considered primitive. this is the rational given by Harve Benet back in 1982 during a Star Trek Convention. Watch "Space Seed" & "Wrath of Kahn" again. As for the broad assumptions on my part I can I'm a student of psychology. & we studied the family values of all kinds. You wanted experts. I learned from the best.
BondFreek 2 years ago
Why is it stupid? Space is very big and the federation doesn't have any bases near the ceti alpha system and neither is it a part of their space. So why, amongst all the other things they have to do like defending themselves from the Klingons, would they keep a watch on a solar system that has people there they've exiled there to live alone?
mummra4ever 2 years ago
The kobashi maru originally used in star trek 2 meant something to the character. In the new movie it does not, he doesn't really care and he's just doing it to be cocky. Why should I care about that?
mummra4ever 2 years ago 2
@TheWindClaw From Cadet to Captain - overnight. What rubbish.
TomatoeAssassin 6 months ago 3
Clever?
If you don't have any kind of experiences how can you learn anything and apply it to your own life?
mummra4ever 2 years ago 2
Regarding ST V: It did have potential, but potential is not enough to make a film good. A film can have lots of potential but still fail to deliver. Likewise, a film can be shallow, but have amazing people working on it who are able to keep it interesting. In this way, Star Trek 11 is better than V. Yeah, the story is shallow, but it delivers on almosy every other mark.
FoxWolf87 2 years ago
"delivers on almost every other mark"? Like ice monsters with out fur, Artificial Gravity still working when there is no ship left, Corny dialog stolen from every show ever put on TV, Inconsistent characters, poor musical score that just repeats every5 minutes over and over, and don't forget the lens flares every 3 minutes. (you need sun glasses just to see the picture.) by the time the movie is over the audience is blind and deaf. The only mark this movie hits on is explosions and boobs.
BondFreek 2 years ago
My opinion: there is no rule stating that ice monsters must be furry. The artificial gravity should've failed lots of times in the TV show too, but it doesn't. I disagree about the dialog, and I felt the dialog succeeds in conveying them as real people. The music is not poor, but it's not special either: sort of like TNG's later music and DS9's early music. However, I will give you the lens flare and the boobs. Uhura topless was unnecessary, just as it was in ST: V. Actually, it was worse in V.

The new "Star Trek" is a comic book with live actors.
MazeleyFanClub 2 years ago 4
the version of star trek people saw was a fake imitation without the spirit or vision that Roddenberry had.. OK its a fun fantasy adventure but that its... No message, no aspirations...
This movie can be forgotten in a couple of hours.
Basically it was crap, made by people afraid to express a bold opinion about how the world SHOULD evolve.
unbreakable2008 2 years ago 2
I thought the new film was fun. It had some elements of trek like Kirk's struggle to become a great man, and spock dealing with the whole human/vulcan side.
I will concede t hoguh that it can be forgotten in a couple of hours.

I thought DS9 was kind of pushing it even though i did love it...but, this crap may make roddenberry rise from the grave and beat down abrhams and BERMAN.
strikemode14 2 years ago
I'd so pay to see that. That would be too awesome.
Another 5 star video. I can't get enough of these lol.
Raelind 2 years ago 2
I know Berman was widely responsible for driving Trek into the wall, but let's remember he had nothing to do with this. I'll give him that much. This was purely J.J.
