We know that dead Jedi can appear as ghosts. We saw Anakin return to the light; we saw his face; and we saw a ghost of a man old enough to be Luke's father appear next to Obi-Wan and Yoda. It would take an immensely dense individual to fail to draw the connection.

It's just that he couldn't know what he would have looked like if he never got burned that bad. Or he could have appeared as that pale scarred man or his appearence before he got burned.
