I wouldn't get offended by the remarks about Americans. It's all in good fun. Some of the nonsense we have to deal with here in the states regarding vehicles is really laughable. Folks in the U.K have to deal with some equally screwball safety/reliability standards. Take a chill pill people. I'm a southern boy from the Southeast U.S.A.
HA ha ha ha…..I like how they keep complaining about the chrome. I’m a born and raised American car lover from southern California and to be honest that is the first 911 that I have seen with wheel well chrome I do agree about the bumper stops, in the US most 911 owners ditched the black toaster ovens at the first chance
"You know how those Americans are, Yeah." What a dick. The chrome fender trim was ugly, but those bigger bumper bumps are on there because we have stricter safety regs in the states. The smaller ones look better, but the fed govt. says the must meet a minimum safety standard. It is not an American thing, it's a safety thing.
Mike was wrong on the bumpers being a California Spec - they were Federal - since the 911 came out in 1964 and stayed in production for essentially 30 years some of the updates to stay with the laws looked a bit funky - like the Mercedes SL and S class from the 1970s -
I am impressed with Ed's mechanical ability - Mike is a bit too huckerish for me -
Often wondered how these engines stay cool with just oil and air...?A lot of cars have trouble with oil + water and the engine at the front for more air flow.
@marts500 Early 911s, pre-996 are fully air-cooled, just like a Beetle. There are a couple of oil coolers and the oil is circulated through them and back to the engine.
Why is this dick always ragging on Americans? British cars really aren't much better.... Oh wait they don't make any cars anymore cause they sucked, lol.
yeah. we scoff at vehicles that you have to be tiny to comfortably drive. and we love our chrome. though on that porsche it was tasteless. we scoff at ass backwards engineering that forces you to drop a drivetrain for the simplest jobs. we scoff at your measly 200 horse power. station wagons have more here. my first car as a kid was an oldsmobile station wagon with a 307CI engine with almost 300 hp. its all about what you value
@AlienZygote010 yes lets start comparing a heavy ass American station wagon to a porsche...lol. other things come to mind like power to weight, handling, easy drop out engine good for a ton of reasons, Race heritage...oh and mabey if Americans didnt have an obesity problem they could fit in a porsche!
@2GDSMTSIAWD - honestly, the chrome was tasteless. but many europeans rightfully think it is ugly but don't know that the chrome trim has a purpose. in america they put a lot of salt on the roads up north and the chrome strips protect the edges that are the most vulnerable. many of us who live in the south or the desert remove the chrome strips. i myself do. if i lived in the north i would just get an extra clear coat on those areas. they are hideous

funny how they keep hating on americans, look back and see why WW2 was our win, you tea drinkers did nothing it was all russia and america who did all the work,
Edd should get about 80% of the profit, since he has done 80% of the work, and plus Mike always telling him he hasn't done anything in the middle of show. Edd deserves all the glory of his hard work !
@delsultano If you want to make that kind of money don't bitch and become a stock Broker like the rest of us.... or start a business.... Don't Bitch!!!
Don't underestimate market knowledge. He got some skills: it is not easy to find a good deal, trust me. I guess Ed is not so good on buying/selling things, but brilliant mechanic. So basicly they need each other for this business.
yes i understand it's not easy. but all the deal depends on Ed's job so i think he's the main member of crew. but you're right, you can be a great mechanic and have no skills for selling stuff, and then, it doesent work.
Anyway in the real world deals like theirs dont work, they make no money on their cars...
It's been said before, rumour has it the buyers are all friends/relations of people who work on the show. Sure Ed is a good 'fitter' as some people here say but he's also a good diagnostician. Fitter or mechanic, experience counts. I don't think Ed needs to be a mechanic on these shows as he's never really tested.
Due to labour costs of course they make a loss on practically every car, nobody could make a living let alone run a workshop on those margins. Also people keep rattling on about what a genius Ed is, well I've watched a lot of episodes, all he does is remove broken bits and replace them with working bits - that's a fitter - not a mechanic! He's a good fitter perhaps, even a decent DIYer can rebuild engines - why keep spending fortunes on exchange units? Even the ridiculously simple Fiat 500 lump!
basically u need to have the skills of mike and Ed and boom you'll turn a profit, plus they are very honest with the work they do they really dont have to change alot of the parts that they do, so they could easly save alot more but thats not the point.
I watched like 3 episodes and I find it funny how the first car they look at is the one they buy, and the first potential buyer of the car is the one who buys it. Yea because thats realistic.
i think to make all these projects more realistic they need to include labor hours by Ed the Slave...they make everything seem like no big deal...did we ever even get a peak at the brakes/suspension on this ride?? LOL and they have the balls to make fun of americans...youre a tard mike
you make a good point but if they were to show us everythin on the car and the condition the show would need to be much longer, so they takes whats wrong, fix it, show you how its done and they leave whats good alone because it takes up pointless air time.
in regards to edd, he makes the wheels turn for the show and the fact he is there is to represent that you can have a great car and restore it yourself if your competent in the workshop.
counting edd's labour into the price would kill it.
no i understand that...its just that I think its not as transparent as it should be. I agree ed is there to show that you can do it yourself, but how hard would it be to simply put an approximate hour tally on each job? It would give people a good idea of how long the work actually takes (by a competent mechanic)
Please agree, mike has almost no clue with whats going on haha
