  • Looks like a great way to make a working key for a lock where the key is missing. How do you acquire the blanks, though? Also, how do you know which blank you need for the lock? Please excuse my ignorance as I'm not a locksmith and am very new to this stuff.

  • @eddiespencer1 blanks are available online or from some hardware stores.

(if you are not a locksmith)

as for knowing what blank you use, there are index and reference books, but with a little practice,ID'ng the keyway just by looking, becomes quite easy.(for most commonly found door & padlocks ...auto locks go by make, model and year of the vehicle.)

  • @wizwazzle I was told that most locksmiths and hardware stores won't sell an uncut blank. I've never tried to buy one, so I don't know from personal experience.

Also, if a person can carve a key to match a locks pin set, couldn't a person craft a pinset to match an existing key? I imagine this would be far more intricate and labor-intensive.

  • is it yours site - locksmiths-lockout. com ?

  • @The333Johnny no. why do you as, and what would lead you to believe that is my site?

  • I know you said not to put tumblers in a vice, but can I file the tumblers down instead of a blank? I have 4 locks and I want them all to work with the same key.

  • @dropfry it iS do able , but i strongly suggest u just go to a smith an buy the correct size pins.

  • I just bought a key punch on the internet a while back because I don't have time to file them anymore. Also, I'm at the point where I just pull out the bottom pins and already know what size it is depending on the make of the lock, so the process goes pretty quick for me.

    Take care!

  • A Far Easier and Faster way... You want 5 of the same key correct?

    1. Take the FIRST key, then take a blank key. Put the two together in your vice.

    2. Take your Sharpie and draw the outline of the first key onto the blank using the key as a guide.

    3. Use your file to replicate the first key using your Sharpie markings as a guide.

    4. Compare the New key to your FIRST key, file a little more if necessary till you have a perfect copy.

Repeat for the other 4 keys..

  • Great video

    Thanks

  • you gave alot of useful information in that short time. im in a city without many locksmiths so i always admired the craft and the art involved, especialy for my children. i am an airbrush artist and tattooer so i noticed the comment about having done time.people are a trip

  • @palomino13 brother, you nailed it.

the more ppl i meet the more i hate them....but if you shut them all out you might miss that one good one.

    have an awesome day!

  • Wizwazzle wow U GOT SKILLS if u wanna make some serious money reply my message n get in contact with me SERIOUS

  • Great video! You did an excellent job with this. Simple, clear, and fun because you clearly liked explaining this. Thanks.

  • Nice video. Do you have any that will show me how to make a lock match a key?

  • Will this work for doorlock cylinders? Every time I take my doorlocks to a locksmith to get them rekeyed they say they need my master. "Apartment Building" Thank 4 any reply.

  • @1njtrooper yes, your locksmith is insuring he does not issue you a masterkey to the system by mistake, and it can be difficult to decode the master key, without either,

multiple cylinders from the system, or the masterkey itself.

(this is called "unauthorized rights amplification.")

  • Something tells me you learned this for the wrong reason and did some time from your mannerism...but you do some damn fine work lol...

  • @DigitalHamSandwich yeah..it's a well known fact that anyone with ink has done time ...but you knew that already, didn't you?

  • Thanks. I'll never buy this kind of lock again.

  • @utubmania2009 oh, and what kind of lock was it?

  • have you try to rekey 5 pins lock with out taking out the cylinder?

  • Nice,I have locksmith videos coming too feel free to rate

  • wer did u get your keyyy.

  • what file did you use, i know you said what kind but i coudnt hear you (crappy speakers)

  • i think i said chainsaw file....

    what timeframe on the vid?

  • 1:03

  • 0h..ok "pippin" file...a file for making keys.

  • which vid did u gut the guard in?

  • dunno...maybe go to my channel and search gutted guard

  • From the amount of video's on your page I would assume you can tell which cut you need by the size of the pin, most locksmiths can, then cut the key on your code cutter. much quicker and easier.

  • yeah...if you own one...

    most (hobbyists like myself) dont.

    i wish i did tho....:)

  • mint vid wix, u no wen u put the key iin at first and the key doesnt work, cud u js file the pins flat wit the shear line wud the key operate the lock ???

  • #1 these are not rekeyable

#2 you file the key, never the pins.

    although possible,filing pins is blasphemous.

  • i dont understand if each lock has differnt pin and shearlines then why would thekey work with all the locks

and if the pins have the same shear line then why would you have to make another key couldnt you just use the one it came with for all of them

  • they aren't different,they are keyed alike.

  • HI great instructional but as mentioned earier, How do you get the plug out of the locks? Or are they called cylinders? out of the locks?

  • there is a retaining screw under the shackle.

  • how did u get the plug out of the lock..and is there any diff to open diff brands of locks...

  • can i just file the pins??

  • you file the key....not the pins...

unless u have to improvise, and have no pins of the correct length, then yes filing down a pin or two is not unheard of..

look at ANY key...see the cuts...those correspond with the correct length pins

    ,lifting them to the shearline....

this is fundamental stuff , boi...=)

so no....file your blank/key, NOT the pins...

  • thx man...i'm gonna get some schlage and kwikset practice locks (repinnable)...so is it okay if i file the pins if i have no choice...coz i don't have a repinning kit...

  • now i know!! thanks

  • and why dont we just file the pins

  • what if u did it in 3 ....things...a few time ....what will happen if u did it too many times...

  • what does a pippin file look like? and could this work on bi-axle's? and wafers?

  • is the medeco a wafer-cam lock??

  • how do you get the lock so its just the locking mechanism

  • you cut it open with a hacksaw or dremal...

  • thanks, you should make a video of how to do that.

  • wiz you rock....you and redbird are my idols..

  • haha,thanks dude..=) red is the boss fo'sho.

    a master,no less.

  • cool thx wiz

  • all locks are keyed alike?

  • wow, ok.

  • some real good info,nice one! :o)

  • ah that,s how u do it..nice toot wiz 5*

  • You should do a video on how to rekey a lock that you do not have access to the core...

  • that would be impressioning

  • and it would be pretty tough to teach in 10 min.

also i am just learning myself...but when ive got it down i will do a vid on impressioning

  • ok... Thanks

Ohh and I knew what impressioning was I could not think of the word...

  • yeah..no sweat..i look forward to the day when i can impression a working key in 15 minutes..

(i have several frenz who can.)

  • cool vid, wish my sound was working on my computer

  • dat sux..=(

  • I agree with your file wiz. I just did mine real quick with the dremel. 5 stars

  • yeah..u must have a steady hand..=)

  • hey...i gotta have somewhat of a steady hand to tattoo otherwise im out of buisness my friend...hehe. I mean, when im cutting say, a "9", i could dremel it to an 8 in just a couple seconds, then file down to the 9.

  • makes sense...and yeah..i guess ya better have a steady hand...in the tatty biz,to which i am no stranger,as you may have surmised =)

  • or when yer making a T u could always make it into a 7.....

but then it would be like... MO7HER..

    muaahahahah ≥≤

  • yeah dude, ive had to fix some shit like that

  • heh...ive had shit like that fixed...=/

  • lol my god dude...i guess it depends on who did that tattoo right ? lol
