I'm in Ridgeland and this tornado put 2 Pinetrees thru my home!!! We moved here in 06 from New Orleans after loosing everything to Katrina so when this happened I was in shock!!! No one was home or hurt but my dog, Dixie, is forever traumatized!! I knew Friday was going to be bad cause Dixie was freaking out before the sirens went off!!! We spent Friday in our stairwell till it was safe!! These tornados are very dangerous!!!!
@ILovestorms It didn't. It wasn't a strong tornado and it certainly wasn't a direct hit. Problem is, I had no way of knowing that at the time I was taking the video. :( For all I knew some F5 monster was going to come up behind me from a direction I couldn't observe from (behind trees or buildings). If I'd known how weak it was, I would have stayed outside.
@goodluckfox I don't think that would have been the wise thing to do. I am not saying that this storm was not dangerous, it was. F5's are very rare, but EVERY tornado, regardless of intensity is too dangerous to be out in, even straight-line winds, any damaging wind. It was still strong enough to uproot trees, bring down power lines turn the mailboxes upside down.
I don't actually know. It SHOULD have been though. And to answer your previous question, yes, ithere was some distant thunder when I went outside. I am kicking myself for not running to the kitchen window, instead of the bathroom, but I didn't have good visual on my surrounding so I couldn't know that there wasn't an F5 monster coming toward me.
Ha!! I remember trying to drive out of town during all that shit. What a bitch. The neighborhood behind those apartments got hammered really bad. It didnt even look the same.. so many down trees....It took them like 4 or 5 months to get it all cleaned up..By far the worst weather in jackson since Katrina
I wish people could have really seen the color of the sky that day. This video does it no justice. I was working at Sam's Club and saw the funnel forming as it came down just on the other side of the club headed towards these apartments. I'm from Arkansas and have "experienced" tornadoes, but this was the scariest experience of my life!!
Goodluckfox. You may have thought the video was lame after you did it. But in all honesty storms of any nature can get worse in a matter of seconds. It is better to be safe.
Thanks. I feel like it's kind of lame... I wish I'd stayed outside, but I had no way of knowing where the tornado was. I was afraid it would be on me before I could see it (I can't see much of the sky) and that would be BAD. Glad you liked it. I hope to someday get some better video.
I work at the Sam's club in Jackson. I took cover under a clothing table. I got inside about 2 minutes before it hit, I am happy to see what was going on outside. Glad you're okay!
Is the Lochwood apartments on Ridgewood Rd? If not which apartments are these? Also, at the end of the video I heard the videographer mention that the trees over the fence would make for a good law school property hypo - do you go to MC Law? I'm from Jackson but now live in Los Angeles and am a law school student.
It's the "Crossings at Ridgewood" apartments, across from Hallmark Cleaners. North of Adkins/Beasley, and south of County Line. The tornado track was about 1200 feet to my north.
Yep, I'm in law school at MC. I'm about to graduate, so truthfully I knew the answer to my own hypo. Funny thing is that we started law school during Hurricane Katrina, and now we're ending it with this tornado. :)
It actually was a confirmed f 1 tornado that went through northeast Jackson......This video cant begin to capture the damage that this storm caused....I should know....We lost two cars, hole in the roof, and lost two pine trees and power for about 4 or 5 days.
Hope you aren't in Calgary. The "Banana Belt" of Alberta. Storms just go around us these days! One thunderstorm last year that was worth remembering and that's it. This year so far nothing! Northern Alberta however has been getting some good storms though - hopefully that is where you are!
That was probably a brief tornado that touched down out of a squall line of thunderstorms.

I hear some emergency vehicle sirens in the background, especially after you went back outside to look at the damage.

It doesn't look like it did a lot of structural damage to your apartment.

I remember that day, we had a wind gust in Terry, MS of 82 mph. A huge pine tree limb crashed through my grandparents garage

I know. :( It looks much more green in person than it does on video.

Did your power go out in your apartment?
ILovestorms 3 years ago
Yeah. It was out for a few days.

What about hail, was there any of that?
ILovestorms 3 years ago
No hail reached the ground, but the weather guy told me that the green color in the sky is caused by hail.

Definitly tornado damage, I give you props for standing there at the moment of impact so to speaklol
onehitta1 3 years ago
What, exactly, makes this "tornado damage" and not straight line winds...hmmmm?
KrystalFrizz 3 years ago
I guess it may have been like a microburst or something. I'm not privy to these type of things so "definitly" may not have been the right wordlol
