Thank you rachmaninif for putting this incredible perrformance on youtube.I bought Lugansky's DVD but it doesnt have this.He plays Rachmaninoff as well as Horowitz.I have loved Rachmaninoffs music for over half a century.Have you heard Santiago Rodriguez do the 3rd Concerto?
I love this piece. I'm only 13 and I'm learning and starting to play this piece. I can tell the contrast in Lugansky's and Vadim's interpretation of this piece. The abosolute steady and nimbleness of Lugansky's left hand amazes me. The melody is very clear. I love this piece ~ :D
@iif5 not sure big hands help with most of this piece--it's more nimble fingers and elasticity. though they probably do help with the big fat octaves. but who cares. this performance is off the wall. it's interesting to compare it to ashkenazy's. different but equal.

He's got Rach's hands, huge. I guess it's helpful if you have big hands when playing Rach's pieces. By the way, he is a good musician.
