Slipknot and In Flames are good bands. They are good in different ways. Different styles, genres, etc, whatever. So Slipknot got their start during that shitty nu-metal craze almost a decade ago...who cares? They have evolved, becoming better musicians and creating better albums. It's all music in the end. However, not everyone likes all types of music or metal or all the bands associated with the genre. In the end, who cares what who listens to? I don't...I just know what I like.

Second, apparently you do care about genres as classifying the music as metal is putting it into a genre in the first place. Genre simply means "a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content." Kid, I listen to pretty much anything rock and metal, and Slipknot could never hope to be as good as In Flames or any other true metal band. In Flames was one of the pioneers of Gothenburg Melodeath along with At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity, helping to create an entirely new style. Slipknot took what KoRn started and ran with it like countless other unoriginal groups.
