So I'll answer the question "why did they seize the building"

Because they are spoiled, immature and self-absorbed. Because they need to feel important, and this is easier, and more fun, than working hard and getting good grades.

Because they think they are NYU citizens or "community members", rather than consumers of a service, as they actually are.

Don't like NYU's policies? Go elsewhere. But please grow up and stop whining.

Oh, and there is a difference between peaceful protest--which they are certainly entitled to do--and criminal trespass. But the distinction seems to escape you.
