  • @constancelena I'm Italian but spent a year in Bloomington,IN in 1980/81 which was about the period John started to become famous.....Everybody was talking about him and claiming they knew him....Smile.

  • I was surprised to hear this song was rumored to be about my junior high health teacher back in Indiana. At first I thought my friends were joking with me, but it is supposedly true. They dated back in high school I believe. Mellencamp has good taste in women because she was attractive. Anyway, great song.

  • @SpongLena lol

  • When my sister and I were small small little kids my uncle would drive down to our house in his huge truck pick us up every weekend to take us on "adventures" like to the mountains, different parks, museums, and stuff of that nature. But before we took off he would ALWAYS play this song as we drove to our destination. For years this song was our tradition for starting off the adventure.

Now that I'm older and travel to different states, I make sure to play this song.

  • sweet

  • vevo = slow as hell

  • From a town where this song is like our life(: and i never get tired of it

  • u guys because im related to this guy and i didnt know until last year

  • This song is simple, yet, masterfully written. Emotion provoking at its best. When was the last time a new song made you feel?

  • aw yeah john getting his air drum solo groove on.

  • We ended up in Nam, came home and Diane had married Jodie, we slugged our way through the U, worked our way to the top and look back at whatever happen to Diane.

  • hot ass beat clap.

  • i have always loved mellencamp and his band! great lyrics and keep on rockin!!!

  • The 60's to most of the 80's (wasn't really a fan of pop or techno) were definitely the Golden Age of music :) Everything else is just not good. It's just people screaming about drugs, sex, and money

  • @movielover288 STFU there are great musicians around the world nowadays!!!

  • @PabloAimar94 He says songs now are mostly about sex, drugs, and money. Thats what all music is about.

  • @iSirLincoln music is not all about sex, drugs, and money. it's about expressing your feelings towards yourself or others or things. YOUR NOT GOOGLE, SO QUICK ACTING LIKE YOU KNOW EVERYTHING.

  • @iSirLincoln QUIT ACTING*

  • @movielover288 then you need to listen to some country music =)

  • @movielover288 You must've never heard any music during the '80s.

  • @movielover288 ALL the songs in the 60s-80s were about sex money and drugs, it was just more subtle.

  • @movielover288 Even if you were not a fan of techno, metal, techno etc, the fact remains that punk movement that happened in the late 70's changed music, and gave us so many different forms of music. If it were not for that movement, no offense but i would have puked if disco became king and it overflowed till today.

  • @movielover288

Are you implying that the very baseline of rock and roll isn't sex, drugs, and money?

  • @movielover288 I disagree the 50's is where is started. You would have had a completely different reality. However I do respect and understand your statement.

  • @movielover288 i can name a hundred songs that aren't about drugs, sex, or money, just from one year. and they aren't screaming. you're one of those people that yell at kids to turn their music down aren't you?

  • @kmac8able Rolling in the deep and price tag are about money.

  • @mewdude98 i'd say the meanings are deeper than money though. that's just my opinion.

  • @kmac8able Umm... I hate to break this to you but you missed the entire point of that comment that you could oppose 100 times. It was stating that all songs sound the same, are just about the same stuff (Love, drugs, money). There is nothing that really breaks the status quo of music. They're tecno music and pop.

  • @mewdude98 But dude thats radio shit! radio shit is obvious radio shit i mean cmon :P

  • @McAdamskinsky thank you! hahah, and i'm definitely not saying that this decade or even generation has the greatest music in the world, but i do think it has the most variety to date. Someone cannot tell me that no music produced and coming out these days satisfies you, someone who would say that is just being close-minded!

  • if my town's high school had a song...it would definately be this. seeing the same kids at sonic, or the lake, or ihop. hanging out in basements. knowing everyone's business...these are the best days of our lives.

  • Look up Jessica Simpson's song "I Think I'm In Love With You" and compair it to the intro to "Jack & Diane" It sounds the same!

  • @officialdavideli Yes, the evils of sampling.

  • Long after the Thrill is gone!

  • DisasterFUCKxo ya im from evansville and he played here once and my parents met him and said he's a total dick.

  • @sbaumholser

  • Turning 17 in three days. Still trying to hold on to 16 as long as I can...

  • i wasnt alive when this song came out i am 16 now but i love it

  • I'm from the same town he is. When he visits he stays in his mansion he has on the river and doesn't interact with the town folk. My brother and sister in law met him and said he wouldn't even give an autograph and just walked away when they asked. They never listened to him again.

  • brothers and sisters dont get along like that! or are they dating?

  • MEllencamp could sing the phone book ,and it would sound awesome!!!!

  • THIS SONG IS 1982????

  • @paclives692002 He still has that middle name but he dropped Cougar feeling that his name was too long.

  • songs like this make music today look like crap and im only 16

  • @pinky3762

Same and I totally agree. I can't believe he nearly threw out this song! LOOOVE It!!!

  • @pinky3762 Your age doesn't matter. Seriously. It matters so little, you don't even have to tell us!

  • 42 people have no taste!

  • I feel kinda bad for most of you. I loved being a kid, and highschool, and collage, and being out of school. I met my husbend when iwas 22 and he always said you have to live thinking every day will be better then the last. Never wish for the past. I adopted this view and we have been happy ever since, we actually feel bad that other people can't possible be as happy as us.

  • VEVO is why I always type in, with the song, "lyrics".

  • My dads boss is his brother Joe Mellencamp. So my dad hangs out with the Mellencamps house all the time, and has met him alot of times. cool huh?

  • Everybody could love it!! No matter what color of skin you have or what race you have been put in. We are all humans we are the same, except the people in control let you believe otherwise. Enjoy the music and see others as equals!!

  • oh yea life goes on

  • I Died a little bit when i saw that Veno had this video john deserves better
