JUST MISSED!!! "Pineapple Princess" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 14 weeks in the Top 100 in 1960!!!
God bless Annette there will be a place for her in heaven after her long sad illness. She gave us so many happy moments over the years and reminds us what a great country this used to be.
Yes, Annette performed this on "AMERICAN BANDSTAND" {she "lip-synched" to her recording} in Hawaiian costume, when it was originally released in 1960.

She was his pineapple queen... then he heard this crap song and took off on his water skis and left her in the ugly bamboo hut on wicky-wicky wacky waikiki! Looks like she doesnt have her own little coconut! then she stalked the boy and found him floatin down the bay so he sent his crocodile to eat her. So now shes dead. WOO-HOO!!! :D
@TheMahomie4life That is a terrible thing to say about such a great singer.Alot of songs were sort of cooky back then, but this song was a hit for her.
My dad showed it to me a long time ago because we were in Hawaii & i was wearing a bathing suit with a pineapple on it. So, he started calling me his pineapple princess (:
Thank you so much for the clips in your video and the song Pineapple Princess, They are awesome and so memorable with Frankie Avalon in it...One of my favorite songs by Annette...
The song was written especially for her by Richard & Robert Sherman (who later wrote the songs for "Mary Poppins" and other Disney films), and was a "Top 40" hit for her in the summer of 1960, and featured on her "Hawaiiannette" album.
Well this will have to make up for The Blue Mu Mu, that isn't avaliable on youtube..i can't remember ever checking it out in the past. Sometimes a sender postsa song and then takes it off and the older the sog the better the chance of it being not avaliable yet or unavaliable again after it was avaliable. Yes frankie and Annette go together like Jan and Dean. all those beach movies and all that surf..thanks for postin'..the audio was dyanamic, considering mono was big back when & this isn't.
I've always loved this song. Brings back memories when I used to play the 45 rpm of this song over and over (probably wore it out) on my suitcase-like record player back in the 60s. Then I went on to enjoy Annette in all those beach party moves she made. Thanks so much for sharing it here.
I am old enough to remember Annette when she started on the Mickey Mouse club. She was hired as an extra, sort of, and almost immediately started getting more fan mail than anyone. She was the dream boat of the Fifties, of my generation. Her health problems are tragic. What an excellent woman!
I too love Annette. I wish we had more sweet innocent and beautiful human beings like here in the world. I feel awful for her and want to take away some of her pain.
@kiyotewolf Wikipedia says the song was released in 1960. Sounds about right... I remember playing it over and over on my record player when I was about 10 or so (in 1964).
Annette is demure, modest and ladylike while being assertive, confident and sexy as all get out. Today's artists could learn lots from our beloved Annette.
If there's anyone from Pgh, PA that grew up listening to O'Brien and Garry on WTAE-AM, you know this was their official favorite song to play to celebrate anything.
Wow Annette is absolutely beautiful. Shoot if I was alive back in those days shes the one my heart would go to! Its really sad to know that she has MS now:(.
I always enjoyed Annette's low-pitch vocal register. It helped to make her songs very easy-to-sing-along-with and added much to their catchiness. I remember when this and her other hits were playing on "pop music" radio stations. (Remember those little transistor radios?) My friend always commented that Annette looked like a young Connie Francis with her highly arched eyebrows and massive bouffant hairdo.
Boy!! Wend I was about 10. I got this song a dime & nicle music store in Millwaukee Wisconsin. 40 years later talking to a friend I look it up on google. And there it was. That is so cool. That we can do that now a day. Now I play and record my own music. Edwin M. Santiago, aka (Pupa) from the bands Santaigo & Loisaida. Look me up. Thank you for the memories.
