I don't understand how he's not dead though? I saw the last episode and at the end Kanta is like "lets get going" and his partner is like "its time" then there is a huge explosion. How do you know he didn't die from that?

For FS! He doesn't die. He works with the goverment. The only person who dies is the wench sales men. Desertpunk burns down his store with him still in it. And there will not be any new episodes. If you pay attention, in the very first episode. Desertpunk is standing on top of the building with his shot gun. And then in the final episode, Kosuna is standing on that same building with her grenade thrower. Which states that the show ends right there.

The guy at the end is Punk, but he just gets hurt he doesn't die there. I don't agree with the opinion that Punk becomes the "bad guy" at the end. He just does what he does, took the best deal offered to him. The Government gave him his life and a robot army.

He definitely came off as 100% evil in the end. He said he was responsible for the deaths of 5? people. Only 3/6 kids lived.

However, In the end I think it'll be revealled that Kanta is only partially responsible. Meaning some other bad guy or some mistake happened that he's taking full responsibility for.

I think Taiko knew this and ultimately decided not to rejoin with Kanta because she knew that she could never be a desert queen beauty if she was stuck under him.
