I use to go to Lonnie's bible studies in the early 70's. Lonnie was just a normal person. The Lord used him, just like he can use you, if you let him.
There is something disconcerting about this- no doubt. But he doesn't sound like Charles Manson. Manson might have fancied himself a prophet, used pseudo-religious language, but if you ever heard him speak, there was a sickening, frightening darkness in his voice, his eyes, and, of course, his words.
I met Lonnie in 1985. At the time I knew or suspected nothing of his homosexuality (and wouldn't have, from my interaction with him). Looking back, however, he did have this 'friend' traveling w/him, who (in retrospect) seemed a little 'funny'. I can't say that I know anything for sure about this other guy, except that he seemed doctrinally off when I spoke w/him -- and I wondered "Why is Lonnie with this guy?"
Anyway, I feel the 'legend of Lonnie Frisbee' is a story both strange and sad.
Jesus healed the sick and made the blind see. So yeah, he made some people feel good. Mostly he pissed off the religious establishment to the point that they crucified him. If you study the old testament you will find that all of these ancient stories point to the coming Messiah. He fulfilled all of these prophecies. If you really check it out and don't just say what you say, you may begin to realize the supernatural nature of the Bible and of the Son of Man.

The Bible talks a lot more about loving your fellow man, showing kindness & tolerance and feeding the hungry and making this world a better place than it does about being gay. I met Lonnie in 1985. At the time I knew or suspected nothing of his homosexuality (and wouldn't have, from my interaction with him). Looking back, however, he did have this 'friend' traveling w/him, who (in retrospect) seemed a little 'funny'. I can't say that I know anything for sure about this other guy, except that he seemed doctrinally off when I spoke w/him -- and I wondered "Why is Lonnie with this guy?"
Anyway, I feel the 'legend of Lonnie Frisbee' is a story both strange and sad.

Jesus healed the sick and made the blind see. So yeah, he made some people feel good. Mostly he pissed off the religious establishment to the point that they crucified him. If you study the old testament you will find that all of these ancient stories point to the coming Messiah. He fulfilled all of these prophecies. If you really check it out and don't just say what you say, you may begin to realize the supernatural nature of the Bible and of the Son of Man.

My beliefs are not based on a lack of open mindedness or blind belief. I've spent much time in Hebrew text, secular writing from BC-AD. Including Roman text. I'm a student earth science and a horticulturist. I personally see design in all of life.
