  • When building antennas, "Cut Long, Trim Short"

  • I have made these when I was a ham, license expired, and I also used them on 11 meters. They work well and are vary easy to make. not to mention inexpensive. An antenna tuner helps if using on multi bands.

  • this is good for 14mhz? thanks

  • You want the best it is called a beam try it stop playing with a dipole and build a beam, even if it is a wire beam it is better the a dipole

  • @ka2gym One problem is that most CB use is mobile to mobile, unlike in the ham bands, not to mention that CB is supposed to be limited to a 250 mile radius (though we both know that radio doesn't work that way).

  • Thank you for posting this. It is a good way to get into antenna building.

  • Does this work for cbs???

  • Thanks A LOT! I am making it all over town with this!

I didn't even have to cut the wire to get a good SWR. 9 feet of wire the tree in my yard and the pole on my porch! thanks!

  • Where can I find a "connector" without having to take one of my old radios apart?

  • @gacowboy1986 you need an SO-239 connector (the female version of a PL-259), probably have better luck buying it online.

  • @gacowboy1986 radio shack 4 or 5 dollars i think for two or one not sure i think two

  • @gacowboy1986 Radio Shack... They're called SO 239 connectors.

  • I followed this and managed to build my dipole , got an swr of 1:2 though, still good though:)

  • This is a great beginners antenna project.

Pointers... I would have done a simple knot on both wires (stripped and soldered, then pulled back to the plastic when cooled) before passing it through the plastic, for strain relief on the solder joints. I also would have used thicker plastic (Wind, whipping trees and such).

Also consider hanging antenna vertically (center conductor lead UP) where you can. Polarization of transmit and receive antennas should match. Most CB is vertical.

  • @zaphodb777 good idea. if u use CB on ssb that is usually horizontal like on most of the HF bands. but in reality when the bands open the signal flips.

  • @DeltaKilo915 Thats why u go to the ham bands.

  • ham is for neards and faggots

  • @DeltaKilo915 I have heard far more dipshits on the ham bands than i ever heard on 11 meter.

What a wast of time and money it is to spend all the money you hams do on antennas, ham rigs, antenna tuners, low loss coax and way past the legal limit amplifiers just to sit around waiting for that once in a life time DX to open up.

How often do that long distance DX come around anyway?

LOL.....and you say CB'ers are a bunch of dip shits!

  • @DeltaKilo915 Freaking ham idiot. First off good buddy was last used in like 1977. Now it is no longer used. Not all CB ers are idiots. Ever listen to the morons on 14.275????? Oh btw, im a ham as well passed the code and theory to get General and i also talk on CB with a LEGAL CB rig.....

  • Made many dipoles when I was CB'ing. Beams, quads and V's. If you want to get better performance from the dipole us 75 ohm tv coax (RG6 or RG 59BU for your feed line to the CB. These are a 75 ohm coax and helps match the dipole to the 50 ohm input of a CB radio better. No need for baluns.

  • @deanotune hey man i made a dipole out of 75 ohm coax i got from the cable company i used 4 peices of extension cord and sum elec tape absolutly no swrs at all....i run on ch 20..... 332.....redneck hope to hear ya out here one day 27.2050

  • @deanotune I heard someone useing 1/4 L long transforming line and next 50 ohm cable as a feeder cable, but if i made dipol I've never used to have transformation of impedancy or baloon and it was worked good - only I used few ferrites rings on the cable.

  • Hot glue is fantastic stuff.

  • WOW TOO MUCH WORK ALL I DO IS SPLICE A COAX HAVE HOT ONE WAY GROUND THE OTHER AND SOLDER A 9 FOOT SPEAKER WIRE ON EACH SIDE THEN CLIP OF A 8TH OF A INCH ON EACH SIDE OF WIRES TELL SWRS ARE GOOD AND DONE I NEVER USE THAT PHONE WIRE CRAP BEST TO USE 10 OUR 12 GAUGE WIRE THEN YOULL HAVE A NICE DIPOLE

  • it realy works , thank you my friend

    16XK031

  • @MrTrust022 No Problem. jus google antenna calculator. it will calculate other freq.

  • @rickyfavazza the formula for a dipole is 468/freq

  • @MrTrust022 np

  • i'ts working my friend , thank you !!!!!

  • What is the length of the two sides of the dipole?

    Nice vid

  • @KC8YOQ Try 265cm and cut each side till 262cm around that you will have max 1.1 SWR

  • what the hell where u making? and what does all these weird words i have never herd of mean?

  • use ladder line coax is for babies. lol

  • Long Is the cable from one end to the center?

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • @puntamita2007 If you want to figure out how long to make an antenna use 300/Freq in MHz. so for 27.215 (Ch 21 on CB) you would divide 300 by 27.215. you should get "11.0" meters. so then convert that to feet and you end up with something around 36' that is your overall antenna length. then for a dipole antenna like this you want to cut that length in half for each "side" so in short you would have two lengths of 18' wire. To make a 1/2 wave antenna simply cut the length by half.

  • @puntamita2007 sorry, responded to the wrong person. but it might have answered your question too.

  • So then do you just run more coax cable from the radio to the connector on the dipole?

  • pretty cool, might want to do some researching on soldering methods however. That "paste" helps the solder flow, not bond. You can clean all connections with isopropanol. Good luck.

  • nice introduciton to basic antenna building!!!..adding a 1:1 balun is easy to build and would make it completlely proper, with a nice balanced signal..

    thanks for posting..

  • Nice job. if the SWR is at 1.5:1 or less, a Balun is not needed. I run a 10m dipole with no Balun and it works fine.

  • And no, making your own antenna is not against FCC regulations....

  • hay q aprender a soldar sr asy no se puede y esa antena es para boys

  • Very nice but I would put a BALUN between the antenna and your CB rig. You can simply make it from 10 windings of coax around a PVC pipe with an outer diameter of 11CM. You need this because the antenna is balanced and your rig and the coax is unbalanced.

  • Simple set-up, yet efficient!

  • ILLEGAL

  • how is this illegal you pest?

  • ILLEEEEEEEGALLLLAMANIIIIIIIIII

  • Jus Jelous ur a mudduck

  • Yeah, because a ham is jealous of 40 channels when i have a million

  • well i am a ham myself my call is KD8MGF. hams experiment with diff ant for diff apps. u should kno that

  • @OchrismongrelO you suck since went the 40 Channel cb band is illegal /?????????

  • @PEKADORSANCHEZ since americans use illegal watts! they contribute to global warming with watts! It should be reduced to 2 watts max pep! just like FRS!

  • @OchrismongrelO what kinda place doesnt let you use a lil helper? pensacola florida here

  • @neubie182 its not illegal at all you fool

  • why? . make antena of 27mhz is illegal? you are crazy man

  • there isnothing illegal about 27mhz its called the cb band and you can run any antenna you want as long as its no higher than 60 foot off the ground.

  • you will find it allot easier when soldering if you tin the wire and the terminal before you solder them together it looked like you did not tin them

  • cool vid ! im interested in making one! check your PM's

  • very nice vid. a tip on the soldering... heat the wire and feed the solder into the wire not on the tip of the iron.

  • k thamks for the tip ;)
