  • Epic

  • Excuse the tangent, but I feel like this album was the last of their "best", to me. it seems they went into a heavier and closer to metal sound after this, and lost some of that proggy magic sound. Again, my preferences only.

  • I agree with that, the older stuff is better, only octavarium(the song) stands out, that might be the best song ever imo.

  • perfect.... i´m a piano player and rudess inspired me a lot and his ragtime is awesome for this song.. I LUV THAT: :D :D

  • lol the ragtime reminds me of like a wild west saloon bar

  • Awesomeness!

  • Stupefacente!!!

Un pezzo da orchestra che solo dei fenomeni possono creare.

    MUSICA VERA-PURA-ESSENZIALE....

  • This instrumental contains mixtures of faster and slower beat groupings in 8, 7, 6, 5, and 4. It goes through 104 time signature changes in just over six minutes. Amazing....

  • Amazing............

  • It's weird. The album is a sequel to a song. But, this is an awesome instrumental. Dream Theater is awesome. Jordan Rudess (keyboardist) is awesome. This whole album is awesome. Just imagine trying to play this song live. That would be confusing as hell! Awesome ragtime solo too.

  • 2:32 - 2:48 best ragtime keyboard solo!

  • 0:00 - 6:13 best song ever? ;)

  • i love the song.. the varying time signatures and styles make it a euphoric sensation for the ears,

  • wow.....just wow. the song is good and these guys ARE good....wow

  • yeah, you watch them live, and you'll see exactly what i mean. I have no clue how they could pull that stuff off in studio and on stage. its amazing

  • 4:23 55757557 433433 8763387 63636 6365343 63636 6365343 6333 63344 6868 6664 66644 5556 6868 6664 66644 5556 5555 5756 5557 66 67 66 66 109 time sig changes from 4:23 to the end
  • 6333 63344 repeats once, actually.

    118 =P

  • well, hang on now.

do you think they were able to ACTUALY play this whole song all togeth at once like this? If you ask me, i'm pretty shure they have a damn DJ in the recording studio helping them out.

  • no...they actually play the whole thing, i seen them do it live in concert.

  • alright then.. i can successfully say they are one of the most talented music groups. I think Bach would be proud... (maybee)

  • lol its funny.

we had a foreign exchange student from italy who loves metal, and when i asked him what he thought about dream theater, he said "they are not human" which he really meant that they have inhuman talent. when his english got better he was able to put it into those words lol

  • hehe

  • The sad part about this is that this has less than 30,000 views, and if I look to my right the featured video is "Ya Life's on the Line" by 50 cent

    /facepalm

  • don't worry, though. i think since Rockband featured Dream Theater, the fan-base has grown very fat XD

  • Uhh, this doesn't sound like making love to me. I do love the music! Dream Theater is the best ever, no one can match it (in my oppinion). But in Metropolis, this should've been when I think Victoria made love to Ed? or Julian? Or whoever. They made love. But this song just doesn't quite make me imagine it like that. Oh well. I guess i'm just deaf or something. Haha! Dream Theater rocks! \m/

  • I'm not under that impression, since at the end of track 8 (the song before this) you can clearly hear THAT happening - and before the song is actually over, so I don't think it carries into this song.

  • Ha, 2:30 sounds like an old ragtime tune.

Dream theater definately beats EVERYONE at musical talent. They have the most intricate music i've ever heard, and i've heard A TON

  • 101!

  • sheet music for this would be ridiculous

i think ?/? would probably be the simplest thing to put as time signature

  • That bass solo is a piece of bass evolution.

  • last I checked 123 time signature changes? regardless of the actual number, this is prog. at its best. actually, music at its best.

  • thats beacuse they change some times every measure.

like a 8/8 measure then a 5/8 measure then a 6/8 measure and my head just exploded.

  • This is MUSIC!

  • 3:50 is fucking insane. Rock on Mike Portnoy.

  • 2:30 fucking mental!

  • I was first introduced to them from Dragon Ball Z: The Future of Trunks

Looking back on it... like 7 or so years later

    ...Ah... I dunno anymore haha

But it went well with the movie! But the thing is they used a lot of their songs from THIS album. Kinda messed up the story of the album for me :(

  • The intro is my favorite bit lol xD

  • I realy like tool too, but its still different from DT

    DT and Tool both rules

  • fuck tool? you obviously don't know what good music is. tool is creative and it's just good period.

  • 104 time sig changes!!!

  • SHIT!!! I accidentally clicked 1 star!! 5 stars i meant!! Dream theater 4ever!!

  • I think the 101 other 5 star ratings will outweigh it. That includes my rating.

  • I agree with everyone here!!!

  • This is a jaw drppoing piece of music and any one who dose not like this song, dose not like music full stop. I did not get the idea of this album at first, but now, WOW!!!

  • dream theater is awesome. It's not just a band, it's a musical revolution

  • the best band ever!!!!this is one of the most underrated song.. epic

  • Hands down: Best fucking band ever.

  • Dream Theater is diff from all other bands thx to James, and i dont want it to change

  • 2:33 - 2:48

    =D

  • yeah! fantastic!! XD

  • suena mas a final fantasy

  • This song has some great riffs in it.

  • wow, time changes galore!

  • No places in my town even sell DT cds..

Half my school doesn't even know who they are

  • same goes to my school :(

  • i know me neither, their to busy listening to stupid rap music

  • and at my school people just listen to slipknot and Tool all the time.

  • Seriously: Fuck Tool.

  • ehh, i dont really like tool to much but whatever...

    Seriously: Fuck Slipknot

  • haha, so we can just coincide with: Fuck them both.

I can handle Slipknot and Tool has talent, but they are both too famous for what they actually accomplish. Slipknot is a nine piece that can't even scratch the surface of a four piece instrumental group and Maynard from Tool thinks he's the voice of our creator. Fuck 'em.

  • thank u!

  • That is surely there loss my friend cause then have no concept of what gr8 music is. But to each his own eh.

  • Petrucci=God

    Rudess=God

    Myung=God

    Portnoy=God

    Dream Theater=Heaven!!

  • what about LaBrie?

  • J. LaBrie could die and I wouldn't even notice... it's not that he sucks is that he's kind of dispensable

  • His vocal and lyrical skills are a key element of the band. (I realize Petrucci and Portnoy write the majority of the lyrics, still). I wouldn't call him "dispensible" but he does not add as much to the band as the other instrumental members do.

  • that's prolly what I tried to say :P but better

  • Well, listening to his solo project actually made me realize that he has helped with writing much of the music since he jumped the Dream Theater train. Although his live performances aren't always top notch, I'd say I'd rather see LaBrie stay than even implying that he is in any way less important, not to say "dispensible".

  • One of my fav Songs from them.

  • hell yeah, best instrumental song ever.

  • Can anyone please put up an mp3 file for this song plz?

  • noo. go buy teh CD.

    :) support metal.

  • Buy it?!?

  • this is what some music should sound like

  • OMG Best Song Ever Perfect !!

  • awesome bass solo, myungs a machine

  • 2:47-2:49

  • I could see this song being orchistrated

  • That's a great idea actually, orchistrate this song live please DT:D

  • The Vitamin String Quartet made a tribute to this song. That 's sort of orchestrated.

  • Great solo 2:33 ... FANTASTIC SONG

  • Dream Theater is quite known for revisiting themes from other songs they've made. For instance this entire album is mostly based off of riffs from Metropolis... Obviously. Look at the title of the album. =x Metropolis 2. It's part of the reason they're so fucking epic

  • At 2:09 it sounds like the riff from beyond this life

  • Portnoy is a drumming GOD!

  • 2:33 ragtime madness :D

  • Ya know, it makes me think...did they right this song to intentionally make it the base for Instrumedley? I mean, the song IS off Scenes from a Memory...I don't know, it's awesome anyway!

  • I freakin' love Jordans solo at 2:30

  • guys u didnt realize? -_- the song based also on fatal tragedy!!! lsn to it if u dont beleive me!!!

  • john petrucci r u even a human??!?!?!!?

  • every member is a god :D

  • The last 40 seconds or so remind me a lot of rush

  • wow the bass in this song is killer

  • That's Myung for ya!

  • 3:51-4:19. Absolute perfection!

  • 0:00-6:13 Absolute perfection! ;)

  • dude you can say that again...

  • Bloody Good Song, Does Anyone Else No Any Songs Like This

  • check out liquid tension expriment

  • this song is so fucking good! love it! <3

  • omg the bass in this, fucking awsome!

  • 2:33-3:08 Best part of the whole song.

  • firmly agreed!

  • Good composing + good guitar riffs + good solo + good piano + good drums = MASTERPIECE!!!!

  • You're missing the best vocals dream theater has ever done :P (I love dream theater)

  • good is an understatement haha.

more like "excellence in all areas!"

also don't forget john myung, he's doesn't get that much attention for some reason..

  • well he sure does from me :) john myung 4ever!

  • Lol, some of the best keyboard work ever :D

  • mike portnoy = win

  • You mean Dream Theater=Win :P

  • lol id say both cause dream theater is amazing and anything with portnoy is automatic win i.e liquid tension

  • you gotta love the complexity of all this stuff, Dream Theater rocks!

  • I love the start :D AND MIKE PORTNOY ROCKS...

  • Greatest metal drum track ever! PORTNOY !

  • lol, this is supposed to represent making love?? but seriously this song is excellent.

  • 2:06 reminds me of the old castlevania song

  • What a huge mind fuck this song is

  • History of Trunks I remember this song

  • 2:07 Now I remember hearing this

  • and whole song is copy from metropolis

  • metropolis in the beginning

  • no kidding :))

  • At the beginning of the song, you can hear the guitar solo part of MEtropolis
