Excuse the tangent, but I feel like this album was the last of their "best", to me. it seems they went into a heavier and closer to metal sound after this, and lost some of that proggy magic sound. Again, my preferences only.
This instrumental contains mixtures of faster and slower beat groupings in 8, 7, 6, 5, and 4. It goes through 104 time signature changes in just over six minutes. Amazing....
It's weird. The album is a sequel to a song. But, this is an awesome instrumental. Dream Theater is awesome. Jordan Rudess (keyboardist) is awesome. This whole album is awesome. Just imagine trying to play this song live. That would be confusing as hell! Awesome ragtime solo too.
do you think they were able to ACTUALY play this whole song all togeth at once like this? If you ask me, i'm pretty shure they have a damn DJ in the recording studio helping them out.
we had a foreign exchange student from italy who loves metal, and when i asked him what he thought about dream theater, he said "they are not human" which he really meant that they have inhuman talent. when his english got better he was able to put it into those words lol
Uhh, this doesn't sound like making love to me. I do love the music! Dream Theater is the best ever, no one can match it (in my oppinion). But in Metropolis, this should've been when I think Victoria made love to Ed? or Julian? Or whoever. They made love. But this song just doesn't quite make me imagine it like that. Oh well. I guess i'm just deaf or something. Haha! Dream Theater rocks! \m/
I'm not under that impression, since at the end of track 8 (the song before this) you can clearly hear THAT happening - and before the song is actually over, so I don't think it carries into this song.
This is a jaw drppoing piece of music and any one who dose not like this song, dose not like music full stop. I did not get the idea of this album at first, but now, WOW!!!
haha, so we can just coincide with: Fuck them both.
I can handle Slipknot and Tool has talent, but they are both too famous for what they actually accomplish. Slipknot is a nine piece that can't even scratch the surface of a four piece instrumental group and Maynard from Tool thinks he's the voice of our creator. Fuck 'em.
His vocal and lyrical skills are a key element of the band. (I realize Petrucci and Portnoy write the majority of the lyrics, still). I wouldn't call him "dispensible" but he does not add as much to the band as the other instrumental members do.
Well, listening to his solo project actually made me realize that he has helped with writing much of the music since he jumped the Dream Theater train. Although his live performances aren't always top notch, I'd say I'd rather see LaBrie stay than even implying that he is in any way less important, not to say "dispensible".
Dream Theater is quite known for revisiting themes from other songs they've made. For instance this entire album is mostly based off of riffs from Metropolis... Obviously. Look at the title of the album. =x Metropolis 2. It's part of the reason they're so fucking epic
Ya know, it makes me think...did they right this song to intentionally make it the base for Instrumedley? I mean, the song IS off Scenes from a Memory...I don't know, it's awesome anyway!
Epic

I agree with that, the older stuff is better, only octavarium(the song) stands out, that might be the best song ever imo.

Looking back on it... like 7 or so years later

But it went well with the movie! But the thing is they used a lot of their songs from THIS album. Kinda messed up the story of the album for me :(
