You can't knock Weller for knowing his Northern...being a southern 10-years too late-Mod as he was!! Still a great tune. And he has done more to KeepTheFaith than a lot of rip-off merchants
How dumb is comparing this C.1969 side with the JAM's recording? "So Is The Sun" was recorded when Paul Weller was still a bloody schoolboy!! LOL
"The World Column was a late 1960's R&B band whose releases are now coveted by northern soul collectors. In fact, their second single, 'So The Sun', released on Tower Records, provided the basis for Paul Weller's Jam-era composition 'Trans-Global Express'" (from Discogs website)
I hadn't listened to 'The Gift' in ages, dug it out after reading the comments below. Yeah, very similar but Weller's definitly put his own twist on it...
Why is it that people like Mark Ronson get halied as musical genius for remixing/covering songs and hip hop and dance arists lift wholesale stuff from other songs but when a guitar band does it it gets called plagiarism?
great to dance to, brings memories flooding back . really starting to get f###### off with paul weller . also dreading the godawful sounding film hes involved with.
To anyone who liked The Jam' Paul Weller used this tune right down to the last drumbeat on one of his albums and claimed that he wrote the words and music' the cheeky git!!!
Heard this version for the first time from the Mojo tribute cd for Paul Wellers 50th birthday, and knew it instantly The Jam song is/was Trans Global Express,Theres know disguising that he's ripped off the whole riff, cheeky bugger or genius!
Same here , funilly enough. Been getting into this old funk/soul stuff. Plagarism or otherwise, I guess he's probably doing it a favour in away if his music means someone else discovers the likes of this again.
makes me want to beat 1 off in front of an old women

This song sends shivers down my spine every time.
If it wasn't for Paul Weller, I'd have probably not heard it so soon.
Fantastic.

WHO ARE these guys? I need to know.
AMG has nothing on them.
They sound here a bit like Sly and the Family Stone. I heard another tune by them called Gospel Lantern.
