I think I'd get killed rather swiftly the first while playing, while staring at the alien scenery and such. Hard to remember you're in heated battle and not on a hiking tour, or something.
@HeadBang4Jezus From what I know, PS1 is still subscription-based. And it's highly likely that PS2 will go free to play from the get-go, this time around.
This is incredible video, especially considering the scope of battle intended for these environments. This is BIG NEWS and I'd love to see more hits on this video so that it gets pushed to the top of Planetside searches. In the video the night seems really dark, but i think that's the video quality. I do hope they keep night time fairly dark. Higby talked about the compromise needed between effect and playability - however, I hope they learn towards making it a real factor in battle.
@slannmage You seem to forget that you are looking at an early alpha. During the interview Matt talked about not having the physics for land vehicle working yet, so it stands to reason that they have NOTHING done for the flight physics yet. They've probably just dropped in "place holder" code which amounts to a flying camera (just like PS1). Hair-trigger comments like yours points to a basic lack of understanding of game developement and are why devs don't usually give sneak peeks.
@slannmage I didn't say it was an insult, I said it was "hair-triggered", meaning that you were too quick to make a bold assumption about the direction of development. Until otherwise stated, I have not reason to doubt Higby's description of the intended flight model. And frankly, I think I can speak for most PS fans when I say "Gah! NO!" at the idea of keeping the old flight model. I want to barrel roll, do loops, snap turns...oh, and not be plagued by hovering Reavers at the base doors.
