This game is a significant piece of my childhood memory... but, let's be honest - it scared the CRAP out of me! Deep...deep...dark blue ocean waters...
Such an amazing sountrack....probably this and the Tides of Time having the two best soundtracks of ANY genesis games....they almost sound as if they're MIDI quality at times, both are incredible and capture the sorrowful and majestic feelings of both games.
Man. Those were the days. I was playing on this weird red "plug into the tv console" it had Sonic, Ecco, Tetris, bejeweled, some epic toxic waste game, and some weird warrior shit.
@xXsk8erb0iXx It seems to me that you're quite young.
Anyhow, the games you're looking for are The Ooze (some epic toxic waste game) and Columns (bejeweled).
"Weird warrior shit" is a bit too generic, but maybe with a better description I could give you the title of that, too. (Unless it's Alex Kidd, which really isn't a fighter)
@SpiralPegasus Ohhhh.... It's been two months, so i've changed since then. Lol. I'm actually 14 years old ,but age doesn't matter. I recently lost my "Weird red ' Plug into the TV console". I found my Sega Genesis console and played it multiple times. It was Ecco, Ooze (Thank you so much!), Alex Kidd, and Bejeweled. I have a limited space for typing characters so I can only say this one thing. Age doesn't matter in the world of gaming. As long as your having fun. NO MATTER what age, you can.....
i agree, as long as it's fun, age (not yours nor the one of the game) matter.
Since you are able to appreciate old games, let me recommend you two, for the Genesis (you can emulate them if your console can't use the cartridges): Ristar and Gunstar Heroes.
There's at least three excellent games for any old console that has existed, and emulators to give them a try. NES, SNES, Sega CD, Playstation 1... you just have to look!
@SpiralPegasus I recently looked both the games you have recommended too me and they seem excellent. Do you have anymore recommendations for me that are closely related to the selection you have provided me? If you do. it would be very appreciated.
@xXsk8erb0iXx Hey, it's great that you're so polite but there's no such need to be so formal hahaha Sure. Same genres: - Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles - Alien Soldier - ToeJam and Earl Panic in Funkotron - Mega Turrican - Shinobi series Different genres: - Thunder Force 3&4 (they're a bit hard, but they're awesome) - Shining Force series Those should keep you entertained for quite a while... You know how to use emulators? If not I can write you a small tutorial to get you going.
@SpiralPegasus I am currently growing up with a formal family. It's very hard not to sound so polite with a veteran in the house. I am very sorry I did not post a comment worth being said. Thank you for the selection.
@xXsk8erb0iXx Hey, take it easy. Coming to the internet should help you be less stressed, here you just talk about whatever and relax.
Anyway do you know how to use emulators?
And you're welcome, by the way.
I have tried pretty much 75% of old consoles, at least via emulation, so if you ever wonder what the best games for NES, SNES, PlayStation 1, Saturn, Lynx, etc. were, leave me a comment and I'll tell you. See you.
@SpiralPegasus Thank God! *Sighs of re leaf* I was like "This dude doesn't even care" so I'm just gonna speak like this. It's a re leaf that I don't need to worry about not being so formal. Yes I know how to use emulators. I have an A+ in tech so I know pretty much anything. I made my own set of emulators. All I need to do now is plug it in and "BAM!" we got it.
This is definitely some real erie and creepy music. I loved this game as a child, and until recently just ordered a retro sega genesis and finally but still had trouble beating it.
I remember this game. I was like "WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO" and then when I figured it out I was all happy. The music was epic too...but I never passed the undercaves. I always ran out of breath and died.
This music is possible to use for meditation. I have got nostalgia from the golden times from Sega, when I was playing this game when I was 15 to 16 years old.
I remember playing this so long ago on my Genesis. Must been like 12 years now. Second level always scared the fuck out of me because of the music. So did the Octopi. :(
@BoydTheMilkmanX Wow....I must have never played this game.So yeah the Ecco the dolphin game I had for my genesis was just my imagination and beating the game was just my imagination.
You sir must be a genius to have come up with such an assumption. The instruments sound different in this. But I think thats cos the ingame sounds kinda made the song instruments sound different I dont know.
Before playing: Hey, here's a game about a dolphin made around a time when environmentally themed games were kind of popular. Story's probably about sinking whalers and tuna fishermen.
After playing: JESUS FUCKING CHRIST NIGHTMARE FUEL EVERYWHERE
@Kingofeurope I was way into video games before I ever knew about Pink Floyd... Needless to say when I heard their song for the first time all I could think of was sinister crushing blocks of alien junk and drowning and giant heads floating in space. I can definitely see the similarities now.
Few things beat Sega Genesis. This game surprised the hell out of me, and the soundtrack is one of the most compelling and haunting in the Genesis library. Thanks for this awesome upload.
Dude I remember playing this when I was like 5 and not understading shit because not only was it so weird but I could bearly understand english (I'M from quebec) I still made it almost to the end... good times
I don't know what those people are complaining about. This IS the music that is in the sega genesis version. We bought this game on the actual sega genesis when I was a child. This is the song that played. These people are probably confused because they played the SECA CD version or something.

@CaptCollins Hold your horses, pal. The only difference is that Sega never acquired rights to name the console "Mega Drive" in USA, thus having to change to Genesis in that country. I'm all about accepting corrections, I try to keep accurate and descriptive information with all of my uploads. If you can link me to a video or sample that shows the difference, I'll be sure to make the distinction accordingly. I can't exactly 'listen to both' at the moment, I have the VGM from project2612 as my source, and they don't have alternate regions. I asked what the difference was before, it's up to you if you want to present helpful information or just be a complainer.
@DJBrand0n The only difference between this on Youtube and the actual Genesis version is theres more treble, because the emulator is so advanced it picks up the extra sound that the Genesis can't read from the files.
:) Alot of games are like this, why do you think Shaq-Fu and Comix Zone have annoying beeps during some songs? The emulator somehow picks them up.
This game had some of the creepiest and most incredible, atmospheric of any game of its generation, of heck, any generation.
I remember my mother coercing me into buying this game. I wanted the Tasmanian Devil game, but she thought something with dolphins would be "nicer." Boy am I glad I let myself be convinced...
The second track, Home Bay, is pretty depressing because it plays when Ecco realizes all living creatures in his Home Bay had been abducted by the Vortex, including his pod. Poor Ecco, it must have been horrible finding himself all by himself, not knowing what just happened or where his pod and everything else went. :(
its funny how such an old, graphically inferior game can have more atmosphere, and a deeper feelin to it than many/all of todays games. ther are some exceptions.
@negativethoughts Yeah, Ecco has atmosphere and peacefulness to it, a far cry from the chaos of Call of Duty World at War or Modern Warfare 2. I mean, which is more peaceful: Dolphins jumping out of the water with this music playing, or Firing a minigun at Russian forces assaulting D.C. inside of a Chopper? The former, though the latter sounds more awesome.
agreed. it was at face value just a game about a dolphin, and if u did not allow urself to open into the game that is all you would see.
but i mean u can replace that ecco is an undersea person, it does not change that the environment atmosphere and music was very unique at that time. its a shame how underated this game and its first sequel are
from 0 til 6:38 probably the best and most ambiatic trance tune i've ever listened to in a video game. big props to the game developers . thanks for uplodin' !
You gotta swim by him really, really slowly! Just lightly tap on that d-pad and float by him. :)
For the rock wall you have to push that weird looking shell thing against it. The catch is that you have to push it up against it as its falling from the above ledge...
This is what it sounds like inside a dolphin's brain.

You gotta swim by him really, really slowly! Just lightly tap on that d-pad and float by him. :)
For the rock wall you have to push that weird looking shell thing against it. The catch is that you have to push it up against it as its falling from the above ledge...
