@Mr Boomheadshot90 but the excalibur round costs a shit load to make so you can't expect them to be in massive numbers, there's a time when accuracy is needed and there's another time when heavy firepower needs to be brought down fast
there is a reason american crews don't like the automated system and that reason is mainly because the extra crew member really helps out especially when your pulling fire watch for 14 hours at a time for one month straight.
sad future weapons didnt do a part about the russian 2s7pion
i know its pretyt old and almost unpractical now they have things like this in the 21st century but its kinda unique and its more devastating per round
Problem is that you not only have different shells but also different amounts of charges.
Doing that fully automatic hightens the complexity which would probably not be possible
without completely redesining the vehicle.
About "dangerous": A weapon system is always dangerous to it's own crew if supposed to be dangerous to it's enemy. That's why they train over and over. And due to the fact that this thing is not shooting out of movement, the danger to a trained crew is limited.
I know the Archer, which is a completely other approach to the problem,
that's why I said you'd have to completely redesign the vehicle. And, as always in military, you don't get the stuff for free, otherwise everybody would design their own archer. But if you have something that is not equal, but close to equal to your enemies weapon, apart from the tactics, the numbers count.
And if it would be possible to have a security delay of some kind, they'd have one. So I think it's not.
sometimes people invent something, and notice they coud have done better and sometimes even before the first released version is realy used, they make an update witch is better
Is America's NLOS howitzer still going to be produced and fielded? I had read on other YouTube pages that it's been cancelled because of budgetary pressures over the past couple of years. If so, that's a real shame...the NLOS would give the PzH 2000 a run for its money for world's greatest and most advanced artillery piece. I hope for the Army's sake that it's still going to be built...the Paladin is a tremendous and reliable cannon but its getting older and older with each passing year.
The Archer is also an amazing cannon. I'd easily rank it in the world's Top 5. The US Paladin gets a lot of crap for not having an autoloader and being an older design (the very first M109 variant entering service all the way back in 1963) , but it's a terrific howitzer, especially given all the base-bleed and rocket-assisted projectiles like Excalibur that the system can fire out to 30-40 km or beyond. And the M109 and its variants are still used in lots of other countries, too.
wtf.. this has less range, less rounds down range and less agile than the AS90...from 2000 that the British still use. The only thing it has, its 3 times the size making it a much easier target.../facepalm.
Yeah I'm jealous that its taller with a better view than my block window on base...you can see trees from the "2nd story" window on this puppy...but from the 5th floor on base... I can only see the carpark.
Space - it really is as simple as that. Using the autoloading system you just can carry half of the projectiles and charges.

I can see why the general loves it. If you've got a long-service, highly trained army, and you're only ever going to fight short wars, it's da bomb.
But.
It ain't simple. There's a lot to go wrong, which is compounded by having fewer of them. Lose one because the hydraulics went down, and you've lost a higher proportion of your firepower. Same if somebody gets excited and forgets to take his hand out of the breech. And I bet they cost four times in machine time what a simpler system does.
It's a very good example of contemporary german military doctrine. Stay very far away from the fighting and if they come for you, get away as quickly as possible.
The government mostly likes to assist allied nations in military opperations, but the country is extremely pacifistic, so we focus on recon and artillery.
As long as the soldiers stay very far away from the enemy, you can sell the whole opperation to the people. But please no german soldiers next to dead people. ^^
Germany are the best when it come to tech. They created the first Assault Rifles, Self Propelled Artillery, Stealth Technology, Rockets, RPG, Night Vision, and jets.
@PaintSniffer07 Because you don't want to store them in the same volatile package. Shells usually don't go off by accident these days. However, I believe that the charges are much more likely to go off accidentaly, and they have enough power to get the shells going off. If a charge explodes inside a tank or mobile gun, it'll probably still kill the crew, but it should greatly increase the safety in depos.
Can you sell to Thailand, we will destroy all weapon junk tank of Cambodia which made from China, and Can we pay by installment within next 30 years n____n
wow this is an awesome howitzer! I was in the u.s. army on the M109A6 paladin and as good as that may have been...damn this is a sexy self-propelled gun. i love how fast they can secure from a fire mission and be moving. i think the fastest we went per round using the hydraulic loader maybe around 20 to 25 seconds. the germans clearly have a superior mobile howitzer compared to the united states by a considerable degree. just like their 88's the krauts have done it again.
The breech door is controlled by the loader with a switch located on the left side of the gun there is no danger involved unless he is really confused.
@5687678 true... you could see him smack two separate buttons before each motion of the load process (i had to watch it a few time to make sure - he was quick)
It's an expensive unit that's extremely heavy. Extra training is necessary to operate this complicated machine. The more moving parts a piece has the more likely it is to have a breakdown. It is an impressive unit none the less.
When you look similar programs on the given channel there is such sensation that in Russia anything good, except Aka 47, Т 34 and planes of times of the Vietnamese war, any weapon more and haven't invented
@IVANGROZNEY k that's wrong. anyone who thinks air power alone can substitute for good artillery is completely wrong. not saying air power doesn't have its uses but even today artillery is invaluable on the battlefield. they call it the king of battle for a reason. how do you think we stopped the Chinese army eventually in Korea in the 50's? by taking hundreds of howitzers from 155's to 105's and laying down a curtain of steel and death. can air power do that?
@Rimasta1 Maybe not in Korea but they sure as hell did around Kashan. The US cancelled it's last mobile artitery up grade because of being an out dated concept ment for the Soviets. The MLRS cancels any counter battrey theats.
@IVANGROZNEY But even in Vietnam artillery was priceless. We set up fire bases all over South Vietnam to provide quick and devastating fire power anywhere. but yes at Khe Sahn when fighter-bombers and heavy arty weren't keeping NVA tunneling efforts at bay the air force for the first time used B-52's in very close air support. in the words of one marine "i thought the president had gone insane and started using nuclear weapons." its hard to top multiple Arc Lights.
@IVANGROZNEY Not really; it's dangerous to assume that you'll always have perfect overhead imaging intel - which is what you'd need to counter an arty threat before it can open fire. Also, MLRS take a while to set up. By the time you're shooting, a well-trained PzH2000 battery will have completed its fire mission and moved outside the MLRS footprint.
That's not even going into response times, which is what really counts.
@CoriolanusAtrox MLRS fires 30 seconds after it stops. The 8 inch rockets have a range of 20 miles and drop 13 times the bomblets of a 155 each. The new NLOS makes this german 155 look out of date.
@IVANGROZNEY The PzH2000 can complete a Battery-5 fire mission in under ten seconds.
Can the MRLS fire terminally guided weapons to deliver precision fire - just one round to take out one building rather than a salvo levelling an entire village? What's the cycle time? You know, fire a salvo, move, reload be ready to fire again?
It's not always about massive destruction, especially not in CoIn warfare.
ich liebe Deutschland aber ich finde sie haben einfach zu viel Angst das sie wider schlecht dastehen.

thats for mrsi i think
though dude, you know they have something like autoloaders
and the archer artillery system is fully automatic
only 2 people sitting in front of the verhicle, one driving, one controling the system
yea, but there coud be something that when the gap is kinda blocked, it just waits till its not
on such way, if such a system works fast enough and it just closes whenever the hand is out of danger, you coud also increase the rate of fire

dycarbon1 10 months ago
It's a very good example of contemporary german military doctrine. Stay very far away from the fighting and if they come for you, get away as quickly as possible.
The government mostly likes to assist allied nations in military opperations, but the country is extremely pacifistic, so we focus on recon and artillery.
As long as the soldiers stay very far away from the enemy, you can sell the whole opperation to the people. But please no german soldiers next to dead people. ^^

yeah the Germans have all the gear but no idea!

So why not design it so the charge is loaded with the round? Then you cut out the need for a loader in your crew
PaintSniffer07 10 months ago
@PaintSniffer07 Because you don't want to store them in the same volatile package. Shells usually don't go off by accident these days. However, I believe that the charges are much more likely to go off accidentaly, and they have enough power to get the shells going off. If a charge explodes inside a tank or mobile gun, it'll probably still kill the crew, but it should greatly increase the safety in depos.

@Yora21 fair enough, thanks for your input

@AVIV222 Oh it was a REALLY long time ago. In 1955 the "Wiederbewaffnung" (rearming) started and the german "Bundeswehr" was established.

wow this is an awesome howitzer! I was in the u.s. army on the M109A6 paladin and as good as that may have been...damn this is a sexy self-propelled gun. i love how fast they can secure from a fire mission and be moving. i think the fastest we went per round using the hydraulic loader maybe around 20 to 25 seconds. the germans clearly have a superior mobile howitzer compared to the united states by a considerable degree. just like their 88's the krauts have done it again.

why would artillery need to reload under fire?
williamED15 11 months ago
The breech door is controlled by the loader with a switch located on the left side of the gun there is no danger involved unless he is really confused.
5687678 11 months ago
@5687678 true... you could see him smack two separate buttons before each motion of the load process (i had to watch it a few time to make sure - he was quick)

It's an expensive unit that's extremely heavy. Extra training is necessary to operate this complicated machine. The more moving parts a piece has the more likely it is to have a breakdown. It is an impressive unit none the less.

It's an artillery gun mounted on a tank chassis. Panzerhaubize translates to "Tank Howizer".

Wonder when the USA will be able to top that lol
spain214 11 months ago
@spain214 Don't need too. The USA ownes the air.
IVANGROZNEY 11 months ago
@IVANGROZNEY k that's wrong. anyone who thinks air power alone can substitute for good artillery is completely wrong. not saying air power doesn't have its uses but even today artillery is invaluable on the battlefield. they call it the king of battle for a reason. how do you think we stopped the Chinese army eventually in Korea in the 50's? by taking hundreds of howitzers from 155's to 105's and laying down a curtain of steel and death. can air power do that?
Rimasta1 11 months ago
@Rimasta1 Maybe not in Korea but they sure as hell did around Kashan. The US cancelled it's last mobile artitery up grade because of being an out dated concept ment for the Soviets. The MLRS cancels any counter battrey theats.
IVANGROZNEY 11 months ago
@IVANGROZNEY But even in Vietnam artillery was priceless. We set up fire bases all over South Vietnam to provide quick and devastating fire power anywhere. but yes at Khe Sahn when fighter-bombers and heavy arty weren't keeping NVA tunneling efforts at bay the air force for the first time used B-52's in very close air support. in the words of one marine "i thought the president had gone insane and started using nuclear weapons." its hard to top multiple Arc Lights.
Rimasta1 11 months ago
@Rimasta1 I can't remember the name of the one the US canceled. I think the new NLOS has something on this.
IVANGROZNEY 10 months ago
@IVANGROZNEY Not really; it's dangerous to assume that you'll always have perfect overhead imaging intel - which is what you'd need to counter an arty threat before it can open fire. Also, MLRS take a while to set up. By the time you're shooting, a well-trained PzH2000 battery will have completed its fire mission and moved outside the MLRS footprint.
That's not even going into response times, which is what really counts.
CoriolanusAtrox 11 months ago
@CoriolanusAtrox MLRS fires 30 seconds after it stops. The 8 inch rockets have a range of 20 miles and drop 13 times the bomblets of a 155 each. The new NLOS makes this german 155 look out of date.
IVANGROZNEY 10 months ago
@IVANGROZNEY The PzH2000 can complete a Battery-5 fire mission in under ten seconds.
Can the MRLS fire terminally guided weapons to deliver precision fire - just one round to take out one building rather than a salvo levelling an entire village? What's the cycle time? You know, fire a salvo, move, reload be ready to fire again?
It's not always about massive destruction, especially not in CoIn warfare.
CoriolanusAtrox 10 months ago
HOLYSHIT
xEden1 11 months ago
I feel like pointing out that this is not a tank. It's an artillery gun. A barrel like that would be a little bit... annoying on a tank.
