@Obrotuwa1983 Apparently - assuming you're talking about the Brian Eno-esque ambient music - that was part of the episode's original score by Tim Truman.
This was a good send-off for the series, although I thought the episode was a bit of a missed opportunity - Gina, Trudy and Castillo were hardly in it! They could have at least had the whole squad shooting it out when Tubbs gets rescued from the trailer.
I love the way how Sonny looks back to his boat... so many stories, so much to tell. he knew It somehow that he was living the end of a unforgettable generation. MIAMI VICE IS A ICON!
It was soo good.. too good to last forever. And now nothing will ever be enough for those of us who loved it. But then again.. nothing does, does it? But the candle that burns twice as bright, burns half as long. So, love it and remember it. And try not to wince when it gets remade. Lets hope somebody loves it as much as we do, and does it justice to what it should be today.
Miami Vice ended with Season 5 Episode 21. 5/21. My birthday is May 21, so that is also 5/21!
Some here say it ended in May '89, the nbc classic tv site says 1/25/1990.
I never ever watched it back then, but now I wish I had. I've been on the nbc classic tv site, and have watched the first 4 seasons in sequence so far, I will finish it all.
I don't like how Don Johnson's hair got so long in the last 2 seasons, it looks terrible to me. It started out short and neat like mine.
no actually i hate reality tv. 24 was great. have you tried watching the wire? the sopranos? breaking bad? mad men? lost? trailer park boys? eastbound and down? curb your enthusiasm? king of the hill? south park? boardwalk empire? arrested development? the west wing? the shield?. all really good
Great ending to a great show!! It's ashame that at teh time they felt it was too violent for tv. Some of the cut up scenes, were incredible!! Great sond by the late great Terry Kath.
I think USA Network aired another final episode in 1990 called "Too Much, Too Late" it was technically a lost episode. Sadly that lost episode is was never put on DVD.
@xlogold Yeah, it was the only true lost episodes. There were a few NBC aired as lost episodes that aired after "Freefall" but it was just a gimmick. I heard originally "Freefall" was going to air in June but got pushed up to May for rating sweeps or something, and the other episodes were instead aired in June. "Too Much, Too Late" was filmed earlier in Season 5 and just never aired because of censorship issues and NBC's lack of balls, which is why theres a random scene of Switek placing a bet.
The subtext of this episode was Iran/Contra and liberals frustration at not being able to nail Ronald Reagan. If the late 80s the left was fanatically anti-anti-communist
@kentamitchell Crockett and Tubbs were sick of trying to bust big time players, and then watching some higher government official erase what work they put into a case. being used a pawns in this situation was the last straw for their characters; they needed a change of scenery
Absolutely the best (and most influential) TV series ever produced - no question, it changed our generation and the standard we expected from TV shows. I was in my late teens when it started. With its daring stories, swiss watches, designer suits, exotic cars and flashy guns - what's not to like? Wrapped up in the most innovative and popular soundtracts of its time. It made history, and enriched my formative years. Miami Vice we will never forget you!
Miami Vice was the 80s.......The style, the music, the cars, the girls, the clothes...God I wish I was back in the 80s.... what a time to grow up in.....wish I would have known this long ago how good it was..................................
April 2010 The white Ferrari Testarossa used in the TV show MIAMI VICE sits today on exhibition at a car museum in the SWAP SHOP, Sunrise Florida. It was purchased by Mr. Henn the owner of the SWAP SHOP shortly after the show ended.
Does anyone agree with the earlier comment that Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas must have filmed this scene separately? If you re-watch it, both faces are never seen together in the same shot and a lot of the dialogue is filmed when the character talking has his back to the camera and is looking at the other who is face on. Anyway, a fantastic show, always great music, interesting guest stars and some real moments of emotion and excitement.
This was so bitter sweet. MV was such an integral part of the 80's..it defined what life was like then...When this aired, many people were in shock...the feeling of loss was palatable..Never be another time like it..The fashions and styles defined a golden age
Micheal Mann's a fucking genius - look at his films, Heat, Collateral, Manhunter and all the rest. And he's got a lot left in the tank. He's similar in style to Rick Donner but a bit slicker and more beautiful imagery
I really liked it how they ended the series with the same line that ended the first episode. "Hey Tubbs, you ever consider a career in southern law enforcement? Maybe... maybe." Well done.
Yeah for a while there I thought it was Ray Charles but then I found out it was Terry Kath (founding member of Chicago). He accidently shot himself in 78

IMO this style is the best you get. Especially when you look at the casual/formal combinations. A simple t-shirt and jeans is too basic, too boring for me. I prefer something a little more stylish. This wardrobe offered that.
Time aside I'd say Miami Vice fashion was as cool as it gets. We shouldn't think in numbers. After the one thing there's always something else.
i dunno..If you pitched a cop show script to a British tv corporation that involved cops driving around in ferrari's and living on boats, with a pet crocodile they would laugh you out of town. You could argue at best it was mildly entertaining advert for cheap suits and ferrari's,at worst it glamourised crime.Yes i know it's only a show.Respect.
it was a different thinking in the 80s and the storys were great. They have Ferrari and boat from drug dealer and they use them cause they should look like drug dealer
Just watched this with my dad on DVD, both of us being unwilling to admit that we were holding back manly tears. Brilliant ending to a great show (shame I was born only one year after it ended).
man, this brings back so many memories,i remember watching this final scene , it was the end of of an era, not only for the show, but it was also the end of my relationship, with the woman i loved, which ended in the same week, coincidently, both started at the same time , years before, man good times and bad, and the start of a new era, travel, raves, wow, as the man says, everything takes longer than you think, man,
No, Jan Hammer already has quit writing music for this show. That piece was written and performed by Tim Truman who composed all the scores after Hammer left the show back in 1988. The last episode was aired on US tv in 1989.
One hundred percent!!! The best musical montages in TV history. Practically all those songs were the cutting edge music then using Vice as a venue for their premier!!! Shows you how pop music has fallen off...
well boys and girls here you have it. along with Mash, Miami Vice is among the greatest shows TV has ever put forth. It created a new fashion. A new look. A new sound. Everyone wanted to guest starr. And there were some greats. I would love to sit and have a Jack Black with Don Johnson. He is the man and will always be the man.
Thanks for posting this clip! I've been too busy being narc to catch the last episodes of this legendary show. We'll never know how many cops went into drug enforcement because of this show.
No doubt about it, the best show ever. Funny how even now in 2009, the new generation still seems to want the 80's vices: cool expensive sports cars ,money, clothes, beautiful women, music and the player lifestyle, like Crockett said in a 5th season episode,"I guess I am a junkie too, because I get high off the action, the adrenaline, the rush". Those times will never come again . Good luck with a show today having the heart and soul! Long live MV!
As scripted, the finale to the series had to be definitive and final. After all, Miami Vice was going off the air so to speak and never coming back! . Crockett and Tubbs agree to go to rescue a latin american dictator who will testify to a u.s. grand jury.Back in Miami they fight death squads and bounty hunters out to get the ex-dictator.
Crockett and Tubbs discover the feds were cutting deals with Borbone to fake his death in exchange for names of players (but not any important names), and gain some percentage off the reel estate...or something. They go vigilante, kill Borbone, and resign from the force. Crockett probably had to become a fugitive for masterminding a vigilante act, but Tubbs got off a little better went back to the bronx.
thanks for that pretty sad ending to the pair which made the world wear slip on shoes with cotton jackets and t-shirts even in the winter!! with phil collins eric clpton and the rest god our generation was cool back then.i was what 17-18!
Alot say it was just time, but i'm sure if they had still been getting good ratings in season 5 the show might have went at least another season. Still a touching end
Miami Vice was simply the best: The location , Music, clothes , plots. Nothing copwise comes remotely close to this. I am 50 now, and like Tod911, like nothing better than to put on the dvds with a few whiskies and go back into COOL time!!
Every Fri night I sit on the patio and have a few drinks and a cigar and watch my Miami Vice DVD's. And yes, I miss it bad!!! the show, the times, the music, etc. etc.
I agree! There has never been a better time for tv,movies, music, everything! I miss it as well.Fridays are very empty without vice! I do miss the 80's,they rocked!!!!!!
To simply put it, Miami Vice set the stage for multiple generations. From the music, clothes, and story lines, I was at the time in my life that this show set the standard for dressing, driving and attitude. Today's generation waTCHES csi:Miami and 24. and so on. I agree these shows have alot to offer, but VICE had episodes like "Caldaron" and "Evan" and who will EVER forget Sonny loosing his memory and shooting his partner. How bout when he got it back?! NO finer actor, no finer show!!!
Even after all these years I wonder if the last two lines didn't mean the characters changed their minds about quitting. These lines were the last lines of the pilot movie, but no laughing in the pilot.
Good point! this always bothered me! Why would he say the same thing to tubbs as when tubbs first came to town??? I am glad I am not the only one who is bothered by this!
I don't think Crockett was actually saying it to Tubbs again...if you listen close, it is the same soundbite from pilot, even the texture of the recording isn't the same as the rest of the scene. I think it was the director's way of segueing into the ending montage. I thnk this because the first flashback scene is their high speed chase out to stop Calderon from getting away, from the pilot. It was just a way of kind of saying "remember how this started, so long ago?"
Dear YouTune friends: That's Life's mystery: WHY ALL GOOD THINGS MUST PASS? Nobody knows it. MIAMI VICE is a true classic and we'll never forget it. It will be in our mind and in our hearts. I think Hollywood executives should think of bringing MV back with the same cast regardless of ages.
THANK YOU MIAMI VICE CAST AND CREW! WE MISS YOU SO MUCH.
(PLEASE PEOPLE STOP KILLING ANIMALS!STOP EATING MEAT! STOP WEARING FUR/LEATHER!ThankyouAdemar)
i wish it was possible, just like you! M.Mann produced the movie in 2006 and that's it! Yeah they maybe should do a reunion episode with the original cast...By the way i recently watched Edward James Olmos in B.Galactica and he's really gotten old! i couldn't recognize him! :)
as far as i'm concerned the 1980s ended with crockett and tubbs driving off towards the airport.....almost 20 years later and i can honestly say i have to fight tears every single time i watch this scene. i felt like a big part of my childhood was ripped away from me when Miami Vice went off the air.
Always was kind of upset the movie version didn't do the show justice. I saw the movie first, got interested in the show. Glad I did.
I think Farrell and Fox could of done a better job, and I think they could do good with another film but I doubt that will ever happen.
Show came out the year I was born, so while not so nostalgic for me, I always heard about them from my Dad, who I made sure owns every damn episode =) We watch them together.
I can still recall on Friday nights watching Dukes of Hazzard, playing Atari for awhile, then coming back downstairs at 10 to watch Miami Vice. I was 9 years old lol. I loved that show & now own every episode on DVD. My sister recorded some show on NBC back in 84 & I still have the tape showing the preview commercial for Lombard. I also have Phillip Michael Thomas hosting Friday Night Videos talking about set stories & how Vice came about. Probably 84-85ish. I still miss that show : )
I was a cop in texas during the run of miami vice, got some good lines from crockett to use on the street....best t.v. there ever was, these days will never come again......
I would like to say that this is the most beutiful scene i ever scene and that this is the best ending a series can ever have!

man, this brings back so many memories,i remember watching this final scene , it was the end of of an era, not only for the show, but it was also the end of my relationship, with the woman i loved, which ended in the same week, coincidently, both started at the same time , years before, man good times and bad, and the start of a new era, travel, raves, wow, as the man says, everything takes longer than you think, man,

Any one know the name of the song/artist for the music played in the first 40 sec on this Video? Jan Hammer?! Thanks and God bless the 80´s!
fapmesquita 2 years ago

Long live MV!

why do they leave miami or the force whats the back ground to this clip.
xwingclass 2 years ago
As scripted, the finale to the series had to be definitive and final. After all, Miami Vice was going off the air so to speak and never coming back! . Crockett and Tubbs agree to go to rescue a latin american dictator who will testify to a u.s. grand jury.Back in Miami they fight death squads and bounty hunters out to get the ex-dictator.
muklucks 2 years ago

Gary1911A1 2 years ago
Yea, awesome how they brought those back from the pilot.
"maybe......maybe" And it did come back in 2006 in the movie. :)
toddk911 2 years ago
Good point! this always bothered me! Why would he say the same thing to tubbs as when tubbs first came to town??? I am glad I am not the only one who is bothered by this!
fff1313 2 years ago
I don't think Crockett was actually saying it to Tubbs again...if you listen close, it is the same soundbite from pilot, even the texture of the recording isn't the same as the rest of the scene. I think it was the director's way of segueing into the ending montage. I thnk this because the first flashback scene is their high speed chase out to stop Calderon from getting away, from the pilot. It was just a way of kind of saying "remember how this started, so long ago?"
Just my $0.02.
texaswarhawk 2 years ago 3
It is the beginning of the montage ... it's not meant to be them saying it again.

WE MISS YOU SO MUCH.

i wish it was possible, just like you! M.Mann produced the movie in 2006 and that's it! Yeah they maybe should do a reunion episode with the original cast...By the way i recently watched Edward James Olmos in B.Galactica and he's really gotten old! i couldn't recognize him! :)

I just came back to finland from miami, and I thought this song when I was in airport in miami. Great song... : )
ransu10 2 years ago 2
as far as i'm concerned the 1980s ended with crockett and tubbs driving off towards the airport.....almost 20 years later and i can honestly say i have to fight tears every single time i watch this scene. i felt like a big part of my childhood was ripped away from me when Miami Vice went off the air.
sigh.
