Damn, Linkin Park has changed quite a bit since I last heard them. I liked Hybrid Theory and Meteora for a while, but grew out of it so to speak. A few of the songs from Minutes to Midnight I liked, but again, grew out of that and away from Linkin Park. But now, discovering A Thousand Suns, they're winning me back. :)
We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I suppose we all thought that one way or another.
I'll admit I wasn't a huge fan of minutes to midnight, but this new material is very captivating! I think I might like it even more than the Meteora material! I love that they chose to incorporate new sounds and structures as well as historical sound clips. The vibe is entirely different, much more globally and politically aware and even spiritual to a certain extent. Absolutely brilliant!
@shitl3ss I used a audio editor to connect the songs. check my channel and use " Listen To Youtube" to download the video into mp3 format. You'll find it on google.

I've been listening to LP since 98 when they released their EP, and i was 6 then. I think they've only gotten better over time, so i kinda hate it when idiots tell me i don't know LP, because they liked HY, and MT better. If they don't like the new shit then why listen?
i didn't even realize the connection between these 3 songs until i did a research paper on the atomic bomb a couple of months ago.... And all you fools who say linkin park sucks now, you can eat me! They did this for a reason and the change is good!!!
"For months we'd been destroying and rebuilding our band"
"We Didn't know any of those unorthodox ideas could be incorporated into a traditional album, but we knew we didn't want our next album to be predictable."
In summary They wanted to take a different approach to this album including more smooth and deep lyrics. It was more for them to show there creative music interests then making it for the fans. In short They will move on. So stop complaining.
This whole album is basically about the destruction human kind has created. This 3 songs are dedicated to the creation of Nuclear Weapons and Weapons of Mass Destruction. The guy talking is Julius Robert Oppenheimer. He made that speech on TV on 1965 about the nuclear bomb test codenamed Trinity.
J. Robert Oppenheimer was regarded as the 'Father of the Atomic Bomb', as he was the scientific director on the Manhattan Project. When he witnessed the first Atomic explosion (codenamed 'Trinity' by Oppenheimer) he recalled the scripture you hear in The Radiance.
What people don't know is that another passage also came into his mind:
'If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one'.
The gentleman in The Radiance is J. Robert Oppenheimer, American physicist and scientific director of the Manhattan Project. The quote is in response to the Trinity Explosion, the first nuclear weapons test of an atomic bomb in 1945. Thumbs up for people to learn some history!
@working0class0hero uhh whut? He was born in New York City in 1904 as a 1st generation American. His father was from Germany though. o.0 He may have visited/studied in german for a period, but he wasn't co-opted and certainly wasn't german!
@Dozzer Thank You! After listening to their album "1000 suns" I was curious about the gentlemen! :) Very interesting, I think I'll look into it more now :) Thanks Again!
Burning in the skies as the sun is burning, radiance means huge beams of light ( because of the sun) and requiem means peace after death. Thats a weird combination of words for a new style of song from Linkin Park. It looks more like a message to me...
Well as an adult when LK came out... I have to confess that I liked the old songs but for me they were like bubblegum... nice taste, but no substance and ultimately disposable.
The new stuff is not as catchy but much much better.... this is actually worth listening to - carefully.
LP is brilliant. They strike a partnership with either the Pope or Harold Camping to make an apocalyptic theme album and use the Bhagavad Gita which is purely Indian and Hindu to talk about a Christian theme which is Apocalypse. Shinoda has got the best brains.
I really love these three songs as a whole, but "The Requiem" is my favorite part. It's so gorgeous, yet very eerie and somehow disturbing. I listened to this around the same time that I educated myself about 9/11, and although the album is about human fear and nuclear warfare, the events of September 11th, 2001 will always be what I associate this album with. I really like that Linkin Park is experimenting with their sound. It would be really boring if they just kept doing the same stuff.
i agree with that it's a deep story about how we have fucked the world up and we cause the end not some biblical charecter yes i beleive in god but i beleive we r the destroyer of the world....
So I took the AP world history exam today, and there was a question about the Bhagavad-Gita. The only reason I knew what it was was because of this song. Thanks Linkin Park.
@devestation250 Actually, the girl that sings in this song is really in the band. I think shes a girl that someone in the band had gotten to sing in this album. but I agree with ya, she does sound awesome. xD
To the people who are on here complaining how the new stuff isn't as good as the old, will you SHUT IT. They are always trying new things and if you could kindly notice that every album has a different theme that relates to things happening in the world. @hrishirich92 Don't fix what isn't broken, I usually don't agree with this philosophy, but for LP this saying can't be more true. LP gained global popularity because of their refreshing, cutting edge style of nu-metal hip-hop hybrid with high energy lyrics and rhythmic rap. LP fans love LP because of this type of music in Hybrid Theory and Meteora. There was absolutely no need for LP to change or "evolve". @devilhunterred You are absolutely right there but me as an LP fan love their music because they are unique.. Fair enough they didn't have to change or evolve because they already were great.. But putting in mind Chester's medical condition, i think that may be a reason as to why their latest albums changed from the first two.. But also you can't really blame them for trying to create new type of music in the last two albums as because in my own opinion, i think it did work out well..
@devilhunterred Also don't mind me saying this but as i was and am and will always be a hardcore LP fan, it's just that when i saw all the negativity the last two albums received it just made me feel disgusted at my own LP community because my opinion is that if you are a true fan then stick to the band.. Just my opinion dude :/.. Peace
@hrishirich92 Sticking to a band regardless of what they do and how they perform doesn't make you a fan, it makes you a mindless fanatical zealot. A fan appreciates what the band does but is also objective enough to see the shortcomings, and thus can provide constructive feedback for the band to improve.
People just don't understand what this music is. Yeah, we all loved Hybrid Theory, but a band has got to change, EVOLVE, to survive and prosper! And this song is beautiful, it's lyrics, its beats. And yes, I loved their old music, but I understand their new direction, AND I WELCOME IT!
This album is kind of like a story. You have to listen from the beginning to the end in order to get what LP is trying to say to the world. They didn't just throw in some random tracks that have speeches in it.
The Aperture Science Enrichment Center is proud to announce its recent collaboration with musically adequate band, *insert band name here*
The voice of GlaDos will be used in one of their songs, called *insert song name here*. In exchange, the members of *insert band name here*have agreed to donate members of the LPU for Enrichment Center testing purposes.
The Enrichment Center apologizes in advance for any LPU casualties that may occur.
@naughtyninjanicole yeah! haha, but the difference between typical autotune and THIS autotune, is that Mike Shinoda is the mastermind behind it all, and it's amazing! haha
@Illier1 It's not supposed to be listened to one song at a time, it's the kind of thing you should take a few hours out of your day to listen to, and maybe find new things about yourself
@Illier1 It Wasn't an album...... cuz if you bought it and you read the book then u should've read the part of: We weren't making an album.... it were just experiments.... and yes.... it is a good CD people should buy it..... also Linkin Park attracts a different audience + their REAL fans (not the wannabe fans who left after ATS and now are haters)
my friend i believe that you have just explained the truth to me you do have to understand that you do have to listen to the whole song at once and not be hatin
@MrEarcheese thanks :) ill b sure to tell my friend to buy it for me for my birthday ha :) 1 more week from tomorrow :D so i'm excited to listen to it fully when i get it :)
god i still remember the first time i heard points of authority (the first song i ever heard by them) they impressed me then and now that im older theyve impressed me on a whole new level. its always nice to see the growth of a band along with your own growth. if you cant appreciate development and growth of an artist then thats just your own damn loss
@dvbaseball5 "Good" is open to interpretation. Personally I don't like their new stuff because its not like the old stuff which in my opinion was "good". LP probably falls under a completely different genre of music now, whereas before they were pretty much "Nu Metal" although being a broad genre as it was and still is, I wouldn't classify new LP as "Nu Metal".
The beginning gave me the most chills and goose bumps i've ever gotten from a song before. there was so emotion to it. It reminded me of a woman, who seemed to be emotionless, singing while bombs were going off everywhere and...Agh, the song isn't far-fetched from the nuclear war idea

@potterhead4ever I agree I thought the album was pretty crap at first with all the side bits, but when u listen to it together it sounds so much better. I now love this cd:)
@potterhead4ever i bought it today...it's an awesome CD with great experimental sound from Linkin Park...Thats y i love em...They dont stick to one genre...very little bands can do that i believe...
This is how the album should have been made, with all the "noise" tracks attached to actual songs. I LOVE this album, but I really don't get why they separated the tracks into little snippets. It's like if the war sound intro for "One" by Metallica was it's own track; it's just wrong.
The album is about a nucleur war/ fallout, if you listen, "a thousand suns" is kinda an analogy for bombs and the speeches by the guy who helped create the atom bomb, and "god save us everyone, we'll be burned inside the fires of a thousand suns" Is all about war. If you listen to the whole album in the dark it kinda scares the crap outta you. You literally expect a nuke to go off at the end. It's creepy but so musically amazing. LP forever!

i love every linkin park album, but i just think these songs are very weak. I just hate the songs where they re-use the lyrics from the other songs, or use those f-ing speeches. I know they could have done that better. It just feels like they didn't want to put any more effort into it. Most songs are epic though! (waiting for the end, the messenger...)
Though this has three songs evolve; a story is told through these. This is a risky move, not what generic bands do, spouting the same generic crap that sounds good but is not outstanding. I agree in a way with what you say, but just shut your eyes, and go on the journey this song takes you. Then try calling these songs weak again. =]
@JustMeYaSee It's a concept album. lyrics are reused as a throwback to an event in the story or to emphasise a point. They aren't just recycling lyrics cause they can't think of anything
They should make a short film based on this album. It would be awesome and maybe the people who are to stupid to listen to the musics for the message will understand what its about. A Thousand Suns is an ALBUM. It is not a collection of songs. It is not meant to be listened to as such. LP even release it as one 50 minute song on Itunes. Listen to they lyrics, research the excepts, learn to apreciate real music. You may say LP is dead but their music has always had meaning and still does.
pretty creepy but also pretty friken awesome

i think they should've dont change anything. now they suck. but before they were awesome. like only this song, waiting for the end are great.

The way this album is set up reminds me of Rush's 2112, like a story, but it doesn't come right out and say it

@Illier1 It's not supposed to be listened to one song at a time, it's the kind of thing you should take a few hours out of your day to listen to, and maybe find new things about yourself

@Illier1 Holy cow, I always thought this too, but didn't want to say it to my friends, for fear of them thinking I'm retarded.
InsidiousEnemy 9 months ago
@Illier1 It Wasn't an album...... cuz if you bought it and you read the book then u should've read the part of: We weren't making an album.... it were just experiments.... and yes.... it is a good CD people should buy it..... also Linkin Park attracts a different audience + their REAL fans (not the wannabe fans who left after ATS and now are haters)

@Illier1 considering that Hinduism is the 3rd most popular religion I'm inclined to think a lot more people will understand it then you think.

@Pow3rGaming Im not refering to the Hindi texts refered to in the song, but the entire album.

god i still remember the first time i heard points of authority (the first song i ever heard by them) they impressed me then and now that im older theyve impressed me on a whole new level. its always nice to see the growth of a band along with your own growth. if you cant appreciate development and growth of an artist then thats just your own damn loss

Chronbear420 1 year ago
@dvbaseball5 Linkin Park has changed. Look at Meteora or Hybrid Theory or Reanimation, nothing at all like their new stuff.
Old LP was so much more explosive, now everything sounds like "My November"

This is how the album should have been made, with all the "noise" tracks attached to actual songs. I LOVE this album, but I really don't get why they separated the tracks into little snippets. It's like if the war sound intro for "One" by Metallica was it's own track; it's just wrong.
emjcohen 1 year ago

JustMeYaSee 1 year ago
@JustMeYaSee
keroberus2 1 year ago
@JustMeYaSee It's a concept album. lyrics are reused as a throwback to an event in the story or to emphasise a point. They aren't just recycling lyrics cause they can't think of anything
hipoop1234567890 1 year ago
They should make a short film based on this album. It would be awesome and maybe the people who are to stupid to listen to the musics for the message will understand what its about. A Thousand Suns is an ALBUM. It is not a collection of songs. It is not meant to be listened to as such. LP even release it as one 50 minute song on Itunes. Listen to they lyrics, research the excepts, learn to apreciate real music. You may say LP is dead but their music has always had meaning and still does.
