anyone explain to me the differences between the Coimbra and the Lisboa versions? Mean I keep reading about it, but still not real sure, and anyway for me to get one of these in the states? Or should I just give my grandma in Portugal a call??
@urmomandad i doubt u can get it there in a music shop. Even here, if you want a good guitar you have to order it and wait for it to be built. You can get a cheap one right out the store for 300€, but if you can afford a decent one get ready for something like 2000€
@urmomandad hi, the guitar is the same, the diference is in the tuning, some people prefer it on lisbon style other in coimbra style. some pieces were composed in one other s are composed in the other depending were the people lives, but it's just that. : )
@Linklol again the guitar is NOT the same...the Coimbra guitar as a larger scale and the have different chapes..and "box" sizes...Linklol its time to learn a little Portuguese...because not all that you hear is true
Actually, this music, called "Dança Palaciana" was made by a Coimbra's guitar player (Carlos Paredes). However in this video the music it's performed by a typical Lisbon's Guitar using also his technique that differs greatly from Coimbra's guitar.
@stereotypeee Dont think so....Its a Guitarra Portuguesa do Porto...look at the "voluta" its not a "tear" or snail shape...the tunnng is Lisboa yes..but the guitar I think is Porto, Penso que é uma Guitarra Portuguesa do Porto pelo menos parece-me, esta escola já está extinta mas a guitarra quase tenho a certeza ser do Porto.

@tiagobge 400 dolars? hummm that is 300€? maybe you can have one with that price like you can have one classical guitar for 50 bucks...if you call that a guitar.
@nb11154 yes, those guitars are not veeery expensive, a nice pt guitar can been found for that price very easly, but you the top one just like the classicls. about those, you say they are not a guitar, well you can never learn how to play a portuguse guitar without someone playing with you, normally there are 2 portuguese guitars and one classical, never only one, and never the last one if you intend to sing the music associated to it
@Linklol thats not all true...Im learning by my self playing the portuguese guitar (see my tubes...search my user)...and there are those o play alone the Portuguese Guitar (see Tarde de Serenata from Paulo Soare...here in youtube)
@nb11154 It was a man far older then you and with far more experience then you that told me this when I asked for some tips to learn how to play, he was from Coimbra and played since his college years, he was in is 60's when I knew him. he told me that I had to have a good hear and memory and play with someone else to learn it well. If you look around you tube, the concerts with this guitar aren't solos. there is always at least another guitar and a classical, not even the ones from carlos pared
@Linklol as I said...that´s not ALL true...it doesn´t mean that you are wrong...It means that its not ALL true...this instrument is capable of playing alone...and its not because a Coimbra guitarrist that you knew told you that, that makes you as the holder of the truth and the all truth. Just listen to Paulo Soares in Tarde de Serenata..or some musics from Pedro Caldeira Cabral or from Carlos Paredes...

@urmomandad The headstock of these guitars has a different shape and the tuning is also different. You should really give her a call. ;)
