The NYSE's system IS NOT like this. This one doesn't take into account the type of security, the size of the company, the average shares traded per day, etc.
An energy stock could do a quick pop then a fall when weekly energy numbers are announced & instead of letting STOP orders execute reliability, investors now have to be concerned whether this stupid Volatility Guard will halt the stock & their resulting STOP price is far away from where it could have been without this new system.
@ArmyFtBall It's something that the NYSE *did* come out with when they launched their hybrid market model a few years ago. The trading community is stunned that you didn't know this.

Having stocks continuously slam into your volatility guard circuit breakers isn't a smooth flowing market.
This kind of garbage is something that the NYSE would come out with, not you. The trading community is stunned.
