@themagicunicorn01 "hanging on" to a cutting horse is pretty difficult--a bit like sitting a horse who's spooking in a bunch of different directions. It doesn't hard 'cuz she's making it look easy, y'know?
I'm no professional and I mean no disrespect, and I could be wrong, but it kind of looks like she's just hanging on and the horse is doing it all. If I bring my horse up to cows like this, he'll cut all by himself.
omg, you are an amazing young lady!!! to have the chance of feeling a trained cutting horse under you in the first case and to ride as good as you did makes us old nags envy of what could of been if we had the chance at your age!!!! keep it up girl, you ride awesome.....dad should be proud!!!
@NCarolinaCowgirl Why don't you go grow up and quit hiding behind your computer screen and post some vids of you cutting that well at 12 years old.... Oh wait... u can't, cuz you got nothin. Don't put down others when you don't know what your talking about.
I'm confused. And I also don't get why you can't just run at the cattle with a big hot poker instead :P But then again I'm blonde, so you shine a torch in one ear and it comes out the other XD XD
@DeathKitty123456 Well obvioulsy we're not ACTUALLY going to jab the poor things.. But they'll sure as hell move away next time if you did, wouldn't they XD
I remember getting a hold of one of my grandfather's HOT ranch horses (gelded late, behaviorally pretty much a stud anyways) and going into the cattle pasture. A squirrel jumped out of a tree and he bolted (not scared, wanted an excuse to run, ha). Squirted right out from under the saddle and galloped off stomping all over his reins. I was literally left behind. Imagine a little kid trying to drag a heavy Western saddle and pad up a giant hill being stalked by cattle. Scarred me for life.
I think she should show her dad this video. I think his pride would lesson the punishment. Surely he's rather she's steal the horse and show him how good she is.. than like steal a car?
@MissHeatherAnn1 Don't they hang horse theives? So I assume if she is still alive he did. jk. she does do a some impresive riding though. has me beat from when I was 12.
horse6230 leave her alone shes just havin a bit of fun she wont ruin it if the dad has use the horse for cattle cutting for a while the horse knows wat to do and already has its habbits... good vid BTW good little rider.
@horses6230- haha, how old are you? 9? In California, we grab the HORN, not under it. If you grab under the horn, why dont you ride in an english saddle?
He is most likely not used to them, leave him in a pasture next to some cows for about a month. He'll eventually get more curious then cowardly and get used to them quickly.
seriously there not getting hurt stop being dumb ugh .. u big know it all babies that girl is doing just fine on that horse and not even close to the cow .. so get over it !!!!!! ....
the horse is doing everything... like most cutters seem. i dont know much about this sorta riding but the horse looks as if they just know what they doing and the rider just sits there... i like the way the horse moves to do this tho... good training is all it comes down to.. guessing lol

Lol! There are no momma cows in there, all the calves are weaned. All that calf is thinking about is how to get back into his herd. No more, no less. So don't make a huge deal out of it.

She rides well for 12 but when she learns to anticipate not where the steer is but where he is going then she will be ahead of the action. What his eyes and ears because they always look where they are going before they go, then set your weight in that direction and you will beat him to the punch. Good luck! Nice horse by the way.
i dont care what these ppl say.. you go girl!! im just learnin how to do cutting and i know how hard it is. you have great balance and hang right on there! your amazing!!!!
dont listen to the comments by ppl who obviously dont know anything about this sport... or riding in general!!
im having my second riding lesson at 8pm today and im doin gmy first canter(english) since i was soo good at the posting trot in my first lesson. any advice please?:)
its been a while since i rode english so i cant quite remember what is "proper" but from a western point of view, don't confuse the horse by asking him to go forward, then pulling back on the reigns. Don't sit up and down like you do with a jog just sit back in the saddle, and JUST HAVE FUN!! :D
Try riding the canter on a lounge line without reins to get a feel before trying to control the horse that fast (and without much balance). It might be scary at first, but its better than trying to stay on a horse and keep him going around the arena while slidding off the saddle.
biggest advice, relax. If you have a straight away or you are in a circle close ur eyes for a second and feel the way the horses barrel moves under u and let your hips follow... cantering is fun :-D
In cutting, alot of the work is training the horse. In the show en, you cant lift up your hand to school, you have to use your weight, hips, and legs. You'd be suprised at how much work it takes, even if it doesnt look like it.....
it takes soo much work! I learned this summer at a training barn for sutting and reining. This horse looks like an amazing time! The tunr around on him is awesome! and she's a good ridder too!
@kittykat8606 most of the work on the rider's part in cutting is outside the show pen. in practice you have to teach your horse what to do, then in the show pen you mostly have to stay out of their way. even without being allowed to use the reins, though, you help the horse a great deal in doing its job thru your seat and legs
