you people are retarded...if you enclose the cockpit of a single-seater, it's...uh...how do i put this?...NOT a single-seater anymore...then it's a tintop...and not all the drivers where the same helmets. They wear different brands like Arai or Bell and they all meet the highest of safety specifications. If they made them any tougher they would have to use a different material and then the drivers wouldn't even be able to lift their heads as well as the fact that whiplash will increase with size

i think they wont make a closed cockpit only because of the weight and if u think if its glass if the car crashees the glass could seriously hurt the driver even more if it smashes

they would probably use lexan which is less likely to shatter like glass will, and is also alot lighter

theres not much you can do to avoid this, it was a freak accident. if you introduced closed cock pits in f1, it just means more time to get the driver out, which would be fatal. at least with this they got massa out really quickly and got to the hospital to get the surgery needed.

erm.... well i guess it makes sense but in the end if the drivers lives r at stake maybe the engineers will think twice, and besides, a few weeks ago thomas knopper the europian karting champion a few years back died in a german open kart race. so that gives more reason for closed cockpits. u agree?
