This is just BRILLIANT!!! I visited Edinburgh and Scotland in general for the first time shrortly after the Tttoo in 2010 (The blleches were still there) and I imediatly fell in love with this country and this culture and I became a fan and a little sommlier of single malt scotch :) just love it and need to visit soon!!! Thx for uploading
Outstanding been play the pipes for a long time and wish I can go to the tattoo. I can get good ideas and try and bring this wonderful instrument to the people around here.
Last year, I went home to the Highlands. The Tattoo was the highlight of my visit to Scotland. You must try to go and experience this spectacle. It will be worth it I promise you.
I love the Pipe Bands - everyone tries to emulate but none better than the Scots! I want to visit Scotland one day. My great grandfather (mother's side) was born in Scotland - 1845. On my father's side they are Scots and I know as far as my father's side that they are Scots - I am thinking that both mother and father were born in Scotland. I would love to see Edinburgh Castle. I have read so much about Mary, Queen of Scots. I would love to be able to see the Military Tatoo.
the bagpipes give a great sound. But credit has to go to the drum sections of each of the bands. To play in perfect sync is no easy task and one which thankfully as a side drummer i have never had to undertake. Also the skill that the tenor drummers have when twirling their beaters is magnificent. Though I do think a little "Blood & Thunder" flute band bass drumming wouldn't go amiss ;)
Fantastic video, huge bagpipe fan from Canada here, what is the song everyone appears to be singing along with at 8:30 though, I should very much like to hear the whole thing :D
And so it came to be, that on the Tenth and saddest day of all, the Lord in Heaven saw what he had created in the spirit of the Bold Highlander. On this day, he created whiskey, so that the Scots wouldn't conquer the world!
@MegaRobertona I've played the pipes in many performances and parades for over 40 years. In all of that time, I've never heard a crowd yet that could keep time with us.
Can anybody tell me the tune that starts around 3:20 or so (could be sooner)? I've heard it before somewhere, probably from the Tattoo, but can't place it....
My father loves the shrill of the bagpipes, and he bestowed that to me...I wasn't sure how old I was when I first heard it...but I can tell you I fell in love with it after hearing it the first time...are you from Scotland?
This tattoo is on my "Bucket List." (It's a good thing, I assure you). Many of my ancestors became exiles because of Cromwell and their descendants (my ancestors) fought for their new independence in their new land. The sound of the pipes still stirs my blood. Go Dogs! Scotland Forever!
