  • I was not saying ANYTHING about the S2 vs. the MS3 as vehicles; no need for rudimentary car specs comparisons, S2 is a King in the twisty stuff .  Don't own, but had the please of driving multiple examples of AP1 and 2.

    -I was talking about why adding forced induction by way of a turbo on a S2, would add A LOT more power than what is made w/ similar boost levels in the MS3.

    -Point was, No Shit! Boosted S2's make massive gains with modest boost. Don't take my engine based comment as S2k hate.

    The compression ratio w/ the oem S2 would make a TON more power per PSI than the lower compression MZr 2.3.... your comment does not make sense for an empirical comparison.

    The S2k was built SPECIFICALLY for n/a power, very high tech engine from the factory...... you act like Honda just tossed in some basic N/A motor........ how about price match the MS3 + bolt ons with a turbo kit'd S2k.

  • @eeeen321 The s2k motor would use the same turbo as the mazda. I know I have one. My comment makes perfect sense. Everyone always tries to compare other cars to the S2k when they cannot. I know exactly why the s2k was made and drag racing was not it. I don't care about price, an MS3 with bolt ons could never keed up with a turboed s2k through the twisties. Sorry man your logic is flawed, I would pay the price for a perfect handling s2k stock over a modded ms3. Thats why I did!

  • you really need to learn how to shift........I always get ahead of S2K on my MS3

  • yea they only accelerated it seems for only 2gears worth, maybe about 1 1/2gears. only till about 60-70mph. the s2000 and the ms3 are closely matched. its going to always be a drivers race, and most honda drivers dont know how to keep their cars in their powerband so torque isnt needed. mazda has the turbo so shifting speed isnt soo important becuase of their superior torque to the S2000. stock the S2000 SHOULD be quicker and faster, granted driver knows what he's doing

  • you can't see the tach, you see the speedo, and it moves up roughly 20 mph while you can see it. this is an owner speaking.

  • the s2k is 300 pounds lighter. and because honda has a better power distribution to the wheels, the power ratings should be even, if not, the s2k should have the advantage there also.

    torque is great to have, but if your all motor youre depending mostly on horsepower all the way to redline, especially if you have vtec.

    turbo hondas should be taken lightly. most hondas are NA which is why not many people take them lightly. any boosted vtec could keep up or even walk a ms3 on LOW boost.

    i have an ms3 and i know what times to shift. i've raced against a sc'ed s2k and a boosted s2k. both were tuned by bisimoto and i got walked.

    this video is close, but the s2k could easily pull on top.

  • AWD? how exclusive. brand names put on regular technology don't make it any better. everyones got a name for their body/impact structure programs. Mazda's is called MAGMA, big whoop. That accord you talk about had a navi system that was like a G-tech. It was actually Mazda that had the first GPS navi system in the Cosmo, as well as a touchscreen tv with onscreen controls, phone etc. all in 1990. It was also the first car in japan to use a bus-based integration system, like what CANBUS is today

  • and the s2000 weighs 2200Lbs. vs. the MS3 weighing in at almost 1000Lbs. heavier. I love the looks of the Honda. I traded an '02 s2000 in for the MS3. I still am a Honda fanboy, but the stock s2000 doesn't hold a candle to a stock MS3. The torque of the MS3 is outstanding for a FWD sports compact. I own an '08 MS3 stock, and have dusted every single s2000 that has tried to hang with me.  I really did enjoy driving the RWD s2000 in the twistys. Both are great cars in their own way!

  • I know both are good cars. But next time look up your info. The S2000 weighs around 2840lbs that's like only 300lbs lighter, not 1000lbs lighter. The awesome thing is the S2000 is naturally aspired 4 cylinder. Whereas the Mazda would be a slow 4 cylinder if it weren't for that turbo on it. But don't get me wrong. Both are good cars.

  • You're right. The car does weigh 2809 - 2855 depending on the trim. Honda has great engineering. I enjoyed mine while I had it. It's hard to compare a FWD against a RWD car. I live in the Northern East Coast, so my MS3 is parked until Spring. Also, the naturally aspired 4 cylinder is very nice indeed, but would have to undergo serious mods to s/c or t/c it if you wanted it to last for more than 30K miles. Both have there pros and cons. Thanks for correcting me on the weight.

  • @eeeen321 dont get all butthurt because you are wrong nancy... the fact of the matter is this video is bullshit because the speed3 needs a driver mod. Do you read car and driver or motor trend? If you do or you can read for that matter you would look at the numbers which have very much to do with this convo and better yet this video. Speed3 does 0-60 in 5.3 sec. S2000 does it in 6.3-6.4. That is a full second faster. S2000 with these mods will not make it 1 full second faster.

    You're ignorant. The S2000 runs 13.8/13.9 bone stock. People are running 13.4-13.6 with just test pipe, exhaust, possibly intake. That's without a tune. An S/C s2k with a Novi 1200 kit with supporting mods (stock motor) produces right around 400whp and traps about 115+. So tell me how a 115 trap = a 13 second pass? You are truly and idiot.

  • Don't even compare it to the S2000...Why not? They both have the same lap times at the same track except for the S2000 had a professional driver and the Mazdaspeed 3 had an inexperienced driver which means the Mazdaspeed 3's times could have been better.

  • i love the s2000 and i own an rx8, ive seen a few races between these two amazing machines, and the ms3 took them all, so i dont know about this driver. but sick cars, im guna trade in my rx for and s2k pretty soon.

  • i own both cars my speed 3 is stock and my s2000 has intake headers exhaust and fuel pressure regulator.. my speed 3 is faster from a roll if i break boost if not then its dead even most people dont know how to drive speed 3's

    I'd have to say i've thought about the match up alot. I would have to reserve my judgment until there are a wider variety of upgrades for the speed3. having said that I think those results would have been different on track with some pos- reac times and a better driver.

  • you must take into account the cars that could have been in the lane of either driver, if you're trying to get any kind of cred for racing on a crowdy fwy then you should go buy a casket

  • you shift way too late, this is embarrasing video. make sure you shift at 5500rpm, you loose a lot of power like that. if your still stock, then power shift.

  • that is the most ricer thing I've heard in a long time "just slap a turbo on it and it will be fast" To safely add a turbo to the s2000 engine will take alot of work. The stock s2000 is a highly tuned high compression engine, and to safely run a turbo, you will have to lower compression and retune the computer. The s2000 might run safely around 6psi with that set up which will be around 250-300 whp.
