What is LOVE ? Psalm 111 Holds an answer for those who seek, Perhaps some will read and understand.Oh and God can be found seek 1 John 4:8 if you have the time. John 1:“1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
@pete123434 True and yet they still don't believe! Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
@pete123434 I dunno, heaven seems awesome! i mean, why wouldnt i want to go to a place like that. its not that people dont want to believe, its that i just cant believe it without any convincing experience or truth. everything checks out in science, and when it doesnt, scientists are content with saying 'we dont know yet' i remain unsure about the validity of a lot of religious claims, because people rarely say 'i dont know'. they answer with god.
@odubbs18 Heaven is awesome indeed. Atheists say it is impossible to know whether God absolutely does or does not exist. In the eyes of science this is true. With faith however, you can know with ABSOLUTE 100% certainty that God exists. Don't you think the best way to know if God exists would be to ask him? If you sincerely and humbly ask God, he will by NO means not answer your question. We blind ourselves to God with science and our self-righteousness.
@delphos1223 but... 'faith' in the dictionary says: "belief that is not based on proof" science IS based on proof, so why should i discard things like science and reason to believe something totally different that has no proof? god has been a subject of following and prayer etc. for thousands of years, but it wasnt until the advancement of science that our society advanced. using scientific theory, things like the computer your typing on were made possible.
@odubbs18 If you truly seek God, he will welcome you so openly! It's like you're living in your house and Jesus is just constantly knocking at the door. You are blasting science and 'reason' and 'logic' and your own rationality on the radio, so you can barely hear the knock of Jesus. But Jesus doesn't give up, he keeps knocking. You yell "I don't hear anything! Jesus I don't hear you I'm too busy with myself!". Try turning down the science and your own reason. Then you'll hear God. Very audibly.
@delphos1223 my grandparents are extremely religious. they are firm believers in god, and as a result, i was 'open' to the idea of heaven, jesus, etc. but as i grew older, it became more and more difficult to do away with 'reason' and 'logic' and faithfully believe in god. what is it like when god answers your question? can you hear his voice in your head? or is it a comforting feeling? let me know! i suspect that after living so long with heaven to look forward to, its hard to let go of...
@odubbs18 I know exactly how you feel! As I grew up Christianity all seemed to become more of a culture and fairytale than reality. Then I was having a few emotional problems, so I started praying seriously to God, and he healed my heart! Some people hear God audibly speaking to them as if your friend speaks to you. I don't however. God works in mysterious ways. God speaks to me through YouTube videos, bible verses, friends, family...
@odubbs18 But sometimes I just have this knowledge of something, that God places in my spirit. I wonder "where on earth did this thought come from?" and "why the heck am I thinking about this?". Since God cannot be explained in words, I can't accurately explain this to you. Sometimes I just get this immense joy that God gives me! It just comes from nowhere, it's like I'm just so happy that I know God and he loves me. It's difficult to describe. Pray to God and you can experience the same thing.
@delphos1223 i think what your feeling is comfort from the thought of god. from heaven, from having a guardian angel... its the same reason people have believed for ages! the thought of god helps with bad times, as you said it helped with you. it gives you a shoulder to rest on. i can see how its comforting, but i dont think people should need that to feel good about life, to have purpose. life is amazing for so many other reasons! you could say i feel the same joy, but it comes from knowledge!
@odubbs18 No no no I assure you, I can't afford to base my life on illusions and delusions. Let me tell you this, the knowledge and belief in Jesus Christ is the most real thing you will ever experience. It is twice as 'real' as this world. It's not about me, my purpose, it's about Jesus. Jesus is more real than anything! I only wish you could experience the same thing. It's a knowledge of absolute truth. Just ask God, it won't cost you anything.
@delphos1223 i never shut god out, i treat god and science the same way. science has just explained and helped me understand so much more... god hasnt shown any sign or existence. im not shutting god out, im simply being reasonable! the human mind is powerful, and it has numerous mechanisms geared toward seemingly mysterious goals. take control of your emotions, young padawan. only then will you see the truth, instead of delusion. use logic and critical thinking! its all we humans have! farewell
@odubbs18 God literally IS good. That means he IS what goodness is. God is spaceless, timeless, and eternal. You are comparing science and God as if they are equals. However, God created science, the universe is like God's thought play-room. Why on earth do you think you could understand the mind of a spaceless, timeless, eternal being? Morality transcends science, in the same way God transcends science. 'Science' blinds you to finding God. When you find Him, science supports evidence for Him.
@pete123434 Here is a quote that illustrates my thoughts:
"I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world"
-Richard Dawkins
so i dunno... :) just so were clear, my intentions are far from hostile. i am simply trying to understand the world. i hate when i see mean hateful comments from either side of this controversial issue, and just so you know, im a respectful 'atheist'. (which, i dont even like using that term, because it means ive chosen a side)
@odubbs18 Jesus > religion. You've probably seen the Why I hate religion but love Jesus video, if not you should watch it :). And many thanks for not being aggressive and hateful like most atheists I talk to!
"Dr. Rick Strassman, while conducting DMT research in the 1990s at the University of New Mexico, advanced the controversial hypothesis that a massive release of DMT from the pineal gland prior to death or near death was the cause of the near death experience (NDE) phenomenon." ^ is this not a theoretical medical hypothesis? i think its worth mentioning.
@odubbs18 It is definitely a hypothesis worth mentioning, however it has been proven to be wrong for the following reasons.
1) When in such a damaged or dead state, the brain would be unable to process the DMT to produce hallucinations, illusions, or a dream-like state.
2) Many persons, after been clinically pronounced dead, report seeing from their consciousness apart from their body, what was going on around them, interactions between people... what they saw or heard was verified true.
@delphos1223 But when one dies from, say, cancer... how is their brain 'damaged' or 'dead'? being clinically dead means your not breathing, and you have no pulse. your brain can last 4-6 minutes without oxygen or blood before dying, so its possible that this is a time when the brain knows to release DMT. 4-6 minutes may not seem long, but time can be perceived much differently in an altered state, like in dreaming.
@odubbs18 True, but let me give a hypothetical example which reflects actual NDE cases. Jenny dies at 5:00pm. With DMT release, she has, say 15 minutes of hallucinations. Her body is taken to the morgue at 6:00pm. She says she was out of her body and heard the saw the people take her to the morgue, and heard one of the personel said "This is the 5th person I've put in the morgue today". When she comes back to life later she asks the guy "did you say this---?". Guy says "Yes I did"!
@odubbs18 I just made that up to illustrate actual real NDE reports. It's time to start believing in Jesus my friend, you can only run away from the truth for so long. He died for you, so you wouldn't have to be punished for your sins. But if you don't accept Him your sins won't be forgiven.
@delphos1223 ha, yea, those comments were meant to be posted at the same time, dang max characters! so i hadnt read either of yours until both were posted. so, it may be possible to perceive stimulus from outside before the brain is dead? skin cells are still alive up to 24 hours after death, so it may be possible for other types of cells as well? i doubt there are any cases of someone being dead for 1 hour before jolting back to life, as rigor mortis sets in after as little as 2 hours sometimes
@odubbs18 Hey, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but the conclusion of our discussion, whether you agree with it or not, is Jesus. I have homework to do so I can't stay on Youtube any longer, you're more than welcome to inbox me if you want to continue talking.
@delphos1223 ha i have homework too lol, so this is a good end point. not sure about the jesus stuff still, but to each his own! if your right, ill gladly take my place eternally in the lake of fire where i belong (deservingly?) good luck on the homework! (biology? geology? chemistry? physics? astronomy? bible study?)
hit me up later, it was nice to get my brain flowing.
@delphos1223 As for your second reason, many people dream in 3rd person, or 'obe', so whats to say this experience isnt an elaborate, intense dream? it has been hypothesized that smaller amounts of DMT are released when we dream to create the accompanying visuals. verified true? people say the same about Nostradamus and his 'true' predictions of the future. parallels can be drawn based on perspective.
Im not dismissing your claims as false, im simply explaining why im not convinced theyre truth.
