  • The instrumental is perfect for the mood of the book, Great Job!

  • Saw the movie in London, was very sad, great movie but would not want to live through watching it a second time!

  • Book is great, movie is good. But in my opinion , Blood Meridian rapes The Road, scalps it, roasts it over a campfire and eats it before shitting it out at breakfast.

  • The movie was depressing and dark. It didn't give a glimmer of hope of better things to come. It showed a father and his son plodding through the dark times, one day at a time, encountering one horrible thing after another, ever on the edge of suicide. It didn't depict any community spirit of working together to survive and rebuild. It didn't depict methods of survival and rebuilding, other than the most mundane rummaging through other people's stuff for survival.

  • It didn't depict any community spirit of working together to survive and rebuild. The Colony series by the Discovery Channel is far more productive in terms of giving people tools and methods for surviving and working as a group and looking forward toward rebuilding of society. The Postman, featuring Kevin Costner, also depicted things getting better and rebuilding after a collapse, while also depicting some of the awful things we might have to face as a result of the collapse.

  • i just got the book, and i havent put it down at all, its like you need to keep reading to keep the characters alive.

  • movie was amazing but can some tell me what the song in this vid is called i cant think of what it is

  • great book the movie was okim glad they made it book wasbetter

  • the movie was a dissapointment to me

  • I have been waiting for this to come to screen for a couple years. Thought it would only be done in black and white. Its a dark story, not a pretty one, but one to consider with great trepidation.

  • the music is too gentle you should've found something more somber and ominous for this mood, i love yo yo ma by the way and bach!!

  • I felt the Coen brothers' movie of McCarthy's "No Country for Old Men" added nothing to the book. It was all in the book. If you can't or don't want to read it is a good substitute, like subtitles if you are deaf; but really you can't beat the book as a medium to hear the authentic voice of the author. I suspect this film will be the same. The book was a masterpiece.

  • "The road" declares the inevitability of cultural entropy, but is itself an example of cultural vitality

  • @alain19644u Reading The Road made me very disappointed in today's culture. So many readers raving over such a terribly written novel, with a story devoid of real feeling or meaning. It just doesn't make sense to me.

  • @kidblink182 It's not written in the "mainstream" fashion, thus it is terribly written? People love the book because the emotional connection to the characters is transcendent, clearly you're missing something. Or trolling.

  • The Road the book not the movie expresses that paradox that lies at the heart of pessimistic literature, it defies the very emptiness that it proclaims

  • All I know is: that ain't no damn shopping cart with their belongings in it. That's a wagon...

  • was there a movie?

and does anyone please anyone knwo the name of that song?

  • Bach, suites pour violoncelle

  • Reality: Folks this is fiction. It's a novel its something that can happen but hasn't happened. Can it happen? sure, but it won't. Why? becuase humans might be stupid but they are not dumb. The author has said in his interviews he is anti-intellectual and this was his way and fantasy of killing everybody and making room for more simple minded people unlike some here who have posted the most ridiculous remarks ever.

  • Humans are stupid but not dumb? Im not quite sure what you mean by this, but I think the human race have been making a pretty good go of dumb behaviour, like attacking our own enviroment for the sake of consumerism.

  • The book was extremely dark and chilling. I hope the movie captures at least its essence.

  • i hope the movie is good but it seems more action oriented when there was not much violence that was being enacted in the book. there were just remants of the violence like the cooked baby.

  • What about the cannibal the man shoots right between the eyes?! Or the incident where they discover a basement full of naked humans, kept to be eaten later, and then their flight when a party approaches the house? It's too soon to judge the movie, but it would be a pity to leave out these scenes: they add a gritty edge and extol the point McCarthy wanted to emphasize which is how bad humans can degenerate.

  • all of that should also be somehow included. i just hope it does not get all rambo. Another great part was the last paragraph of the book. it saidd something like long ago in rivers there was striped fish and in the glens in which they lived, they did things forgotten by man so long ago. that isnt exactly what was said but i dont feel like taking out the book and copying the whole last part.

  • Apparently the makers of the movie were not very happy with the official trailer put out by the film company, since for one thing it splices in a load of stock footage of disasters and stuff that isn't even in the movie, and cuts it to make it look more action orientated.

So hold out hope! It might be good, visually I think it looks spot on.

  • I heard a rumor that Hollywood changed the ending. It was already a fairly 'happy' ending for a Cormac McCarthy book, IMO, but Hollywood will have to make it happier? That doesn't sound good to me. And will the movie really say it's a nuclear war? The book didn't say that, and I enjoyed that 'unease' the book created by not letting the reader know WHY. Oh well, Hollywood strikes again....

  • im not too excited that they increased the role of the mother. especially because it is charlize theron. she is in practically every clip of the trailer. but robert duvall and guy pearce are also in it

  • Yes I wept reading The Road.

    Was it the kid?

Yes the kid got to me.

    Ok.

    Ok.

  • HaHa nice one

  • c'est un magnifique bouquin et je souhaite que le film soit à la hauteur. il y a bien longtemps que je n'avais un livre aussi subliminal, touchant et sans une trace vie social.

P.S.: ton " The Road " est cool. by mirah

  • Bien dit, j'adore vraiment le français et les gens européens en général pour leur mindness ouvert. La plupart des Américains sont si tendus et fermés a eu des objections qu'il m'obtient malade pour les appeler mes compatriotes

  • this movie is going to be pimp im in the middle of the book right now

  • nothing better be left out of the book like it is with all other movies.

it better be a great movie... no adding extra shit

  • they should do it no country for old men style, no music

  • goddamn, but they better not fuck up this movie. the road is uncommonly epic even for McCarthy

  • Movie is going to be wicked good. A wake up call for the world! You'll see.

  • A wake up call about what? The movie is about a nuclear war ravaged planet suffering the starvation effects of nuclear winter.

How is a movie going to stop that if the atomic powers of this world hit the red button?

  • How is it going to be a wake up call.. Well, i sincerely thnk that the powers that be do not or moreover can not understand the severity of such weapons and it's effect on the world until its too late. i am sure that this movie will be viewed by those in control and more importantly those of us who do not think we have a voice. It's my opinion that this movie's will embed a message to the world and its leaders of the cruel reality and the horror of nuclear war / and or natural cataclysm

  • it isn't made clear in the book what the catastrophe was, but it doesn't seem like it was a nuclear war.

  • I'm reading the book right now, it pains me to put it down. It's such a great book.

That kid shouldn't worry, he has aragorn with him. jk :P

  • This kid looks too old. This kid looks like he is 13, and the kid in the book could not have been older than 9.

  • also the kid in this movie has too much meat on his bones

  • I love this book so damn much. The part when they go under the house made me crap my pants. Not that many books can make me do that.

Cormac McCarthy is such a damn good author.

  • All i can say is that i read this book twice and it kicked my ass! Mr. McCarthy is a genius..If there was ever a movie that people should go out to see, it will be this one... very releveant to today, and a wake up call for the world!

  • If the movie can convey half the feelings I felt when reading the book, then this will be the greatest movie of the year. Like A Child of God, i've never felt so disturbed, yet attached.

  • Thank you for practically being the only video that doesn't falsely purport to be an official trailer or scene from the movie.

  • thank jesu cristi christian bale isn't in it...

  • Haha. Word. I can just imagine him slapping his son...

  • How the fuck are they going to convey the last paragraph! Im so worried, so worried i had to be vulgar...no moving images can convey the terrible beauty of the final words

  • that is an excellent point, they keep pushing back the release date for this movie ( I really want to see it) but given the difficulty expressing the bleakness, hoplessness and the hope the book conveys all i can say is good luck. I hope they do justice to the prose

  • If you're talking about the one with the trout, you're right, that's gonna be extremely important! I bet that's why they've kept delaying the movie. They could spend a year trying to convey that! I hope they can do it!

  • It will probably end with the family. Excited either way.

  • what a great book, probably one of the best ive read..hopfully the movie wont go all holy wood and have execive violence..i like the story line.

  • One of the finest novels I've ever read. So, like many of you, I worry about whether a movie can possibly live up to it. I'm not sure anyone can recreate on screen the desolation and hopelessness that my imagination conjured while reading it.

The book stayed with me for weeks.

  • i pictured the kid being younger in the book

  • Me too, I pictured him being about 7 or 8 years old. The kid that plays him is 11. BTW, does anyone know for sure when the movie will be released?

  • no set release date

  • I think they upped the age of the kid to about 11, so they could get someone who could act well. Also, I think the release date is october or november 2009. So excited!!!

  • when is this coming out??

  • i love the book.. i want the movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is that daniel craig?

  • no viggo mortenson

  • Viggo Mortenson??? that is even better!!!

  • Which song is played in the backround?

  • cello suite no.5 prelude

  • Bach - "Cello Suite no. 5 Prelude"

  • good song but terrible for this book

  • i just finished the book and its a great book.

  • I feel a great fucking film coming this year!!! CANT FUCKING WAIT!

  • This SuKS!

  • At least your video has images from the film, and isn't a fake video.

  • Excellent book!!!!!!!!! Looks like a good line-up they got for the movie and it should turn out pretty good as long as they stick to the story and don't hollywoodize the shit out of it.

  • I really liked this book. I want the real trailer to come out though. Oh well, this can keep me occupied.

  • Lara, I enjoyed your video. I too love the novel, and I'm glad you had the master's picture at the end. :) Well done!

  • did this movie already come out?

  • i wish they havent even sent out a trailer yet...i heard that it was cancled

  • it's scheduled for a fall '09

  • that song that the maker of this video does not do justice for the road. It does not fit the feeling of being "on the Road"

  • I can't think of any music that would fit the feeling of the road. I'm imagining that the movie will have no soundtrack, like no country for old men. It seems that McCarthy's books are like that. What music do you think would fit?

  • I think you're on to something. No music I mean. I'm a fan of soundtracks in movies, but I think it'd be appropriate for there to be no music. Consider: McCormac uses very little punctuation marks in the novel, replicating the dry, run-on, desolate feel of the road. Consider also: The movie is being directed by John Hillcoat, a minimalist filmmaker who avoids the use of CGI and unnecessary effects. Maybe he'll carry it further and exclude a soundtrack.

  • Your right, just the sounds of they hear while on the Road would be more powerful then any music they could come up with. I mean the World that was, is no more!. Any music would ruin that feeling.

  • yeah it goes against the whole idea of an actual silent earth

  • The book was excellent.

I hope that 'The Road' is as intense a film adaptation as was 'No Country for Old Men'.

  • SONG NAME PLZ

  • song name is:

Suite for Solo Cello No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1007: I. Prélude

    and it's by Yo-Yo Ma

  • I just read the book again, its more depressing the 2nd time round, is Guy Pearce going to be the guy at the end with the yellow jacket and homemade shotgun cartridges? hope so, he's a good actor. Well he was in The Proposition which was directed by the same guy who is directing The Road.

  • Great Book, and the song

    what is the song name

  • This movie is going to be hard to make....THe producers better put LOOOOTS of ash.....and make the environment a bleak, dark world.....Make the movie full of lost hope, yet the bond between the son and his father great......That is all I ask in this movie......If not, I'll kick every single person that helped make this movie in the BALLS....or Boobs if a woman....

  • LMFAOOO when the hell is it coming out

  • I found the book relentlessly depressing and grim beyond belief. There was nothing optimistic or inspirational in it at all. Its about death, the infinite darkness that awaits us all. There is no escape. Carrying the fire? No-one is carrying any fire, its an illusion. Sometimes illusions are good.

  • i loved this book the parts when they saw anyone was so intense i hope they dont make the movie shit

  • i hope the movie is not shitty

wait i know this movie is not gonna be shitty

  • The Road is one of those books that would be hard to make. it could be very easily ruined. Now Blood Merridean... That could be a movie.

  • the movie seems like its going to be kinda inaccurate?? the little boys hair is blonde isin't it??? and the truck on the bridge acually has a trailer that is covered cause he sees all the bodies in the trailer the night after they sleep in it??? im really sorry if i ruined this part... but this book is full of awesome things so just read and keep raeding :D doing a summative for grade 12 english.... need ideas lol

  • he im doing a grade 12 summative on this book too ..but i wanna see the movie already im about a 110 pages into the book...and if u could please tell me sum symbols that are in this book....cuz i duno lool

  • symbols..... hmmm well there is the gas station.... that is like the sense that there is acually nobody left in the world really that needs gas... like before what happened.... ummm i cant really say anything else to not spoil the book lol i had to find symbols as well for mine :P

  • lol alright thxx im gonna use that... my teacher wants me to make tracking sheets with quotes one of the pages has to be quotes to describe the setting and symbols...so thxx

  • no problem man good luck!! >:)

  • Great book! Can't wait to see the film!

  • go 2 google and type in Weinstein company films and click on the coming soon button, and at the bottom it lists The Road as a future movie

  • Thanks, I wish they would come out with a trailer already. I wonder why that's taking so long? They already have trailers for movies that aren't coming out for another year.

  • is there any chance of it coming out by febuary i have to do a essay on this book for english and i wana see the movie already

  • where did you get the movie pictures

  • ........google.......

  • Anyone knows a premiere date of the movie? I remember it was supposed to come out in November 2008, but they changed it.

  • in like febuary or march

  • Just finished reading the book this morning.

  • Don't you dare tell me what happens!!! I'm still in the middle of it. MY stupid teacher wont let me read ahead ._.'

  • I will see the film...I have been trying to read the book and put it down each time because it's so depressing...oy! I think I am about half way through it...No country for old men was depressing too but I think because it had more characters or something (at least in the film), I could follow it easier with my ADD brain! LOL Just saw "The Reader" yesterday afternoon. Was an interesting flick as well :D

  • When the fuck is the studio going to release a god damned trailer or something?

  • ..in this moment i read the book

  • amazing book

  • well thx anyway

  • which song is that?

  • ermmmm, I'm not really sure, I could check for you though

  • wud be cool if u do :)

  • its something like bach's prelude in G or something, it wouldnt give me the full name

  • Bach's Cello Suite No.1 G Major BWV 1007 Prelude.

  • haha you're smart ^^"

  • and now that I've just discovered the Plain White T's "Hey there Delilah" thanks to your page, I'm that much smarter !

  • They filmed a scene at my families farm in the spring of 2008. I watched them shoot video for a few hours. It is hard to wait for the release because I want to see what they do with the barn scene and if my Grandfathers old Massey combine was used.

  • OMFG ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!

  • Ya, it was really cool. They filmed scenes with Viggo and Cody pushing a shopping cart along a split rail fence. Then they crawled through a fence and went to the barn where they had props of a family hanging from the loft beam. They came back to a tractor by the fence and filmed the scene where Viggo tells Cody what to do with the pistol if he gets caught by the "bad guys". I am really looking forward to seeing this movie!

  • oh my god you're amazing just because of that, im sure you're amazing for other reason but i dont know you so yea, im really hoping this movie will be great

  • Can't wait for this movie.

Thanks for putting up the stills.

  • You're welcome! I dont think anyone can wait! I hope it will be good!

  • nice

  • Danka!!! I worked hard on it(no not really)lol
