LEMESHEV was the SINGER'S SINGER. There HAS BEEN and is NO ONE on the OPERATIC STAGE even today who CAN SING with the BEAUTY OF TONE and PHRASING as LEMESHEV did. He represents the true "ART of BEL CANTO."
@MrSkylark1 I totally agree with You! Dearest Sergey Lemeshev sings so beautiful this difficult for most of tenors Werther"s aria with really" true art of belcanto".
Lemeshev is truly among the greatest- glorious tone and technique, what a joy it is to hear him again; I had several vinyl records of his that were destroyed in a fire some years back, so this is particularly meaningful to me; thank you!
As you traverse the UT recordings of Lemeshev from Levko's song to Lensky's aria and the aria from the Snowmaiden, it becomes obvious that this is one of the great Lyric tenor voices of any century. The man sang most of his life with a collapsed lung and you barely notice the difference. I come late in life to Lemeshev but I rate him right up with the finest singers I have ever heard. Would that I could have heard him "live." Try to hear him before 1942-simply outstanding.
I wanted to say that Russians love to declare themselves "BEST". I've never seen, for example, an Italian stating 'Italians are best singers'. It's because those statements are always ridiculous.

@MrNigribov Americans are even worse in this sense!
a hundred times worse.
Here we go - Americans are the worst, and Russians are the BEST - what a fresh idea :) Yes, if an american said "Americans are best singers", it would be just as foolish. But it was you who did it.
@paulostroff99 My sentiments exactly. There has never been a better tenor. I love Schipa, Björling and many others, but no one comes close to Lemeshev...Gedda is nowhere near his league.
i do not liek higher voiced males. honestly i could list everything i dont like and u could very well find it to be absurd. its all a matter of preference. i prefer lower, darker, sometime sbronzed male vocie. i adore vickers and corelli. i think its the tenor leggiero i hate. i dunno. like said, preference. but this one is very awesome to me. i admore his lyricism.
ya, this one is really amazing, that's true. But as you see, preferences differ... I really like leggiero tenor voices, because they sound more natural. I'm a big fan of Simoneau and Kraus, but Corelli is also freaking amazing. but who knows, maybe i'm biased because I'm myself more of a leggiero tenor (or lyric, idk, 17 years old is too young to tell...)
@moghedien13: You mean Franco Corelli, right? He was a tenor (whose Nessun dorma can't be compared to, btw!). So it's not tenors that you necessarily dislike; it's those with a lighter, leggiero quality you're not particularly fond of (which is sort of what you said).
Thanks for your compliment and congratulations too for giving the whole world Lemeshevs voice with an own channel. It´s worthly! Kind regards from Mike

always tasteful - I prefer Kozlovsky and also think Georgi Nelepp had greatness & uniqueness and is severely underrated and neglected.

I totally agree you that "his recording of Eugen Onegin is unrivaled, even in view of Kozlovsky or Gedda"
