They felt like they had to get rid of hassan as 9/11 happened shortly around that time. They felt like something might have actually happened to him and that the crowd would take his gimmick too seriously at the time. If he was around now, it would of course be different but at the time, the WWE (WWF then) felt it was inappropriate.
@EchoFalls1982 9/11 took place nearly four years before this, three years before Hassan first debuted. The WWE took Hassan off the air because people were going ape shit over the fact that people perceived as terrorists were on-air a few days after the London bombings. WWE pulled the plug on Hassan and released him. He hasn't appeared since.
he wwe board of directors is full of idiots, they get rid of people who made the company better then than it is now, great heels, great faces, they just shot them to the side and out of the company. wwe needs a face lift and they need to bring back some of the people that made it great. people like hassan, people like boogeyman. cody rhodes and wade barrett are terrible heels, i like things better when hassan was around, triple h was a heel, and goldberg and brock lesnar kicked everybodys asses
I think now, that with hostilities (as it were with American involvement) coming to an actual end in our current theaters of operation, that a re-visitation of the Hassan gimmick could work if Mark Copani was willing to do it again.
Just with Hassan though, the context in which his character was used struck a nerve with the majority of Americans. There is some truth to the mentioning of this feud getting media attention as it dealt with Hassan. There was a lot of negative feedback about the segment from Smackdown to the point where local affiliates refused to air that entire part of the programming and it even made news lines here (in the Houston area at least).
I get that...especially the point made with the kids. The majority of them wouldn't understand the brevity of the idea that the gimmick wants to get across. That said, his gimmick isn't anything that hasn't been done before. Sgt. Slaughter/Col. Mustafa during the Gulf War. Ivan & Nikita Koloff and Krusher Kruschev (NWA) and Nikolai Volkoff (WWF/E) during the Cold War, and then again with Boris Zhukov during the dying days of communism in Russia.
@EvilJeter You also have to understand 2 things. One, his gimmick was to hate Americans. So in most places they travel, he isn't likeable. Two, todays crowds are majority kids and are two young to understand the magnitude of a heel.
@TheChaserofSouls His gimmick wasn't to hate Americans. His gimmick was to point out how ignorant and hateful AMERICANS are. People who think he hated Americans only prove his point. He spoke NOTHING but the truth but ignorant rednecks just keep chanting USA not realizing Hassan wasn't anti-USA. He was anti-ignorance. Unless ignorance and USA are one in the same....
What is going on here? 3:16 why wwe used the muslim call to prayer? what has wrestling got to do with the muslim prayer? typical american bullshit propoganda against muslims. I hope no other muslim ever come on wwe. americans are bloody racist shits.
the main reason Hassan's gimmick was given the shit end of the stick was because day that the d the guys in the masks attacked taker was the day of the London Bombings and WWE didnt have time to edit the episode and take that bit out and because of that UPN wanted nothing to do with Hassan so WWE wrote him off......was a great gimmick, WWE needs more good gimmicks like this
mohammad hassan is the biggest gay at the live not because he is moslim because he is a trying make the moslims is a craps but he doesn,t because the undertaker breaking his body i love it but i remember everyone i moslim but i never look like mohammad hassan becuse he doesnt moslim
This was done at a time when it didn't take much to incite racial hatred towards Muslims and people still look back at 9/11 with grief. I mean...having Hassan was not so bad since he was just a Heel jerk, but the "terrorist henchmen" was such a BAD MOVE...it's no wonder they had to get rid of Hassan.
Sure, it was just an angle in a story, but making light of terrorism when 9/11 is burned in peoples memories was a faux pas.
hassan was a good heel, liked the things he said, he was just a heel based on the hate that was in the media. it was better that he did leave cause i remember reading about wwe having to add security and how having hassan around really serious people were making threats towards him if i remember correctly i think hassan like half italian too.
I realy think that, well yeah it was a good Match but they should not get rid of him that way... He was a very good Wrestler, technally and also on the Mic (IMO)...
@MasterOfTimeForever wel he wasn't muslim 2 begin with.. I think they shudn't have made him a stereotype and get him hated on..most the adults understand its a joke but the kids don't, this stuff leads to racial profiling
@ministry4lifeMV I never really got hooked on him, but as a growing wrestling fan he would have been VERY good. But as he had left It eas a very good way to retire the character.
@ministry4lifeMV He was a great heel. I remember watching him a couple years ago and hating his guts and hating every time I heard his theme, but that theme is probably one of the biggest shit starters in WWE history every time you heard it you knew shit was gonna go down, and I loved it.
@crumpton4 yeah sorry. I knew it was something to do with some kind of terrorist attack. Just got it mixed up. Apologies.

@13FSL13 No, his first defeat came at the hands of John Cena. He also lost to Shawn Michaels and Hogan.
