"Although Zelig's family lived over a bowling alley, it is the bowling alley that complains about the noise..." Yeah, that sounds like a line from a Woody Allen movie. :-)
Hello everyone! Does anyone know what is the music at 4min30 sec in part 7 (when he becomes greek at a greek restaurant)? If it's a famous song, or generic style... I would love to listen more of this music. Thanks from Paris.
This marvellous film contains one of my favorite movie lines of all time, and is heard in the segment displayed here: "On his deathbed, Morris Zelig tells his son that life is a meaningless nightmare of suffering. The only advice he gives him is to save string."
@FrauDoktorKloedner It is, Frau Doktor, "The Charleston," or "Charleston." It is unclear whether the song initiated the dance called "The Charleston," or vice versa. It was probably the most familiar U.S. tune of the 1920's. I wondered which orchestra's version was used in the "Zelig" soundtrack. According to the IMdb, it is performed by Dick Hyman's orchestra. Mr. Hyman is a contemporary musician whose unerring reproductions of 20's and 30's classics are heard in many Allen films.
seriously, thanks for posting this. and you did a great job of it too! so many posters on here just aren't very good at it, but yours was excellent. :) (oh, and propers for your good taste in movies as well!)
One of the great things about Woody Allen's movies is that no matter how sophisticated the theme or how low-key and naturalistic the tone, they're always full of the corniest borscht-belt one-liners like the bowling alley joke in this clip. I love it.

Zelig is a true masterpiece. Unfortunately, it gets rated well below Annie Hall and Love & Death.

Until Ken Burns came along, this style of documentary was firmly established as the haute couture by David L. Wolper.
Woody Allen carries this satire in the Wolper mode magnificently and you almost believe Zelig was a real historical figure.
