  • im in the foot guards and its all the same stuff relly

  • Proud to be Scottish ^.^

  • Over on Wolf 359, this is the stuff that amazes us the most. Everything else is easily explained, but this whole category, beginning with the aurochs horn tromp, is too subtle even for us. Hint: this is all about peace, love, and not needing Foot Guards. On W359 we have the Foot Lovers, and that is "Foot" as in "not Mounted". We hail you, Earthlings!

  • I LIKE IT, AMAZING MUSIC FROM GREAT BRITISH BANDS,

    Marching Band Crown Flutes @ millerwicks.co.uk

    a new improved version of the old crown az.

  • This is the march that follows immediately after the ouverture of the opera Scipio by Handel.It has absolutely nothing to do with nazis. Really!

  • Rule Brittania brothers

  • 5.03 , favorite phrase of any march.

  • would you mind posting the titles in the description? i absolutely love these marches but i don't know the titles to some of them. Cheers!

  • Excellent compilation of British Marches !Thank you Huithapeli!

  • The coldstream guards should be first formed 1650 not 1656 like the gobladiers (spit) NULLI SECUNDUS said for a reason second to none god protect SETEM JUNCTA IN UNO

  • Best of luck to all in the 1st batt Irish Guards when they deploy to Afghanistan later this year, and may you all come back safely.

    Quis Seperabit.

  • I'm amazed by the responses to this You Tube "upload".

    It gladdens my heart to see that Regimental history et al., still lives among you.

    Regimental differences aside, we have fallen heir to some outstanding music - music we'd never have heard as mere civvies.

    Sans Peur - Ne Obliviscarus... :-)

    Liam

  • "Handel" was actually called Haendel-he was German,came to GB as the then king was also German-the Hannoverians,remember!It doesn't really matter.The music is wonderful!What an Army and what a government!The contrast could not be starker!

  • foot guards best soldiers in the world welsh guards i,ll say r the best bein welsh myself

  • The Coldstream Guards paraded - and fought (hence why their plume is on the right side of their bearskin) on the left of the line, not as punishment but so they would not be the second regiment.

  • @zegermans750 can i just let you know that your contry was founded by the british so in all fairness anything you do is a british achievement any way you look at it

  • I beg your pardon... they most certainly did not, "steal," it!

    Handel gave permission for his march, "Scipio," to be used by the Grenadier Guards, shortly after his opera Scipione premièred in London.

    Which leads me to believe that the Coldstream Guards were given permission to use, "Non più andrai," as their slow march as well.

    I have to say though, it is incredibly amusing to hear an American talk about stolen culture...

  • @emptyangel Tee hee ;)

  • @emptyangel I like and appreciate your style for parades and events, but it was your last sentence that got me. Same old limey arrogance! I landed in Normandy with the 115th Infantry reg. We went until we met the Russkies. Many of us liked the GERMANS more then you blowhards

  • @BBBOBBYful All that says is your an old miserable Nazi sympathiser.

  • @BBBOBBYful No Surprise, many of you were bloody germans, America first bastards probably!

  • @emptyangel

    Actually you are semi correct... Handel actually wrote "Scipio" for the Grenadier Guards before he actually included it into Scipione.

  • omg and the first is from handel. we will die !! The music was composed by composers, how dreadful !!

  • Well, I WAS incorrect. ((Je sui desollee.)) However, please do tell who the arranger was. It certainly was not the original arraingment by Handel. (The first five notes do make that clear.)

  • Quite right im not actually sure, i would imagine it was a head of music within the regiment many moons ago because this version has been used for a long time

  • Scipio has long been one of my favourite pieces of music.

    great vid.

  • Remember learning to play this on the violin while at school. It sounds better here, believe me lol!!!

  • British Army.

    Queen

    Country

    Comrades.

    Nothing else.

  • @ShortsGardens

    God save the Queen!

  • I may be wrong, but the Grenadier Guradrs slow march is "Scipio," and the one posted is "The Escort for the Colour," ut Imay be in error as to the last part. Not to the first. The march posted is NOT "Scipio,' at least by Hayden.

  • First march is Scipio by Händel. Believe me. Escort for the Colour is played during Trooping the Colour ceremony when the Massed Bands are doing the Spin Wheel manouver.

  • Handel composed scipio not Hayden

  • You are of course quite correct! Hmmm... What I am wondering is if this is a different scoring of SCIPIO... it certainly does not sound like Handel's...could you supply the arranger? Thanks....

  • @KFWVAII First march is Scipio.

  • @KFWVAII

    This is Scipio. Escort to the colour is played before the colour is recieved. This is played as the flag is paraded by the queen.

  • @KFWVAII With respect, sir, the first is Handel's Scipio.

    I agree with you that it doesn't sound like Haydn's Scipio.

  • I have a strong family connetion with the Coldstream Guards - they're slow march is Figaro. Scipios is the FIRST slow arch and belongs to the Grenadier Guards.

    on this vid is:

    1- Grenadier Guards, Scipio;

    2- Scots Guards, Garb of Old Gual;

    3 - Irish Guards, Let Erin Remember;

    4- Welsh Gards, Men of Harlech;

    5- Coldstream Guards, Figaro;

    (not in order of regimental status - 1,5,2,3,4)

  • I believe I read somewhere that although the Coldstream Guards is second, after the Grenadier and before the Scots Guards in precedence, they do not march there, as a play upon the words of their motto "Nulli Secundus" (Second to None).

    So this order of slow marches represents the marching order of the Foot Guards.

    someone please correct me or endorse this if it is correct.

  • OH!

    This posting's notes is where I read it!

    Boy, do I feel stupid.

  • Yes you are correct. The marching order of precedence is the GG, SG, IG, WG and then the CG (which differs from the order of seniority.) The Coldstream Guards always form the left of the line as this is traditionally where the most junior unit on parade is placed, this stemming from the fact that the Coldtream Guards supported the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War, and upon the restoration of the Monarchy, putting them at the end of the line was seen as a suitable "punishment"

  • You may have knowledge of the Guards Regts. but your grammar is apalling it's

    "their slow march" not they're which is short for they are

  • anyone know where I could find a video with just the Scots Guards slow march? (Garb of Old Gaul)

  • No, It Is Scipio at the start.

  • No, it is correct. The Coldstream Guards slow march is Figaro, from Mozart's opera 'The Marriage of Figaro'. See watch?v=-ciFTP_KRy4&feature=related

    The Grenadiers slow march is taken from Handel's opera 'Scipione'. watch?v=953J804OPXs&feature=related

  • mate, you mixed up the grenadiers slow march - it should be scipio

    just thought i wud say init

  • It is Scipio that's played at the start of this vid

  • No i am Ex Coldstream Guards but served in Germany, on what was Amie , when the Warrior was first introduced .

  • This brings back memories, having served in 4 out of 5 Regiments of Foot

  • How'd you manage that? Bandsman?

  • We used this during our slow march in the Australian Air Force Cadets Senior NCO graduation parade, still fills me with pride.

  • As it should!

    Greetings from the USA.

  • You are a star

  • Video is fine. It is all you need to accompany these fine marches.

  • All Hail The FootGuard!

  • I love this march. My father was in the St. Kitts-Nevis Royal Defense Force as a 1st Class warrant Officer and I as an Office Cadet and I loved the Parades, especially Scipio.

  • This is great! I can't find Scipio anywhere man! The last time I heard that slow march was during my days in the Boys' Brigade.

  • This is an outstanding upload. Thanks so much. It's pouring down outside, I'm doing my accounts and this music is keeping me going!! :) btw what about that superb tune that the GGs use; is it called Grenadiers' Return?

  • This is great. Many thanks for taking the trouble to put it together.

  • Each marches are representing the battalions or regiments?

  • The Regiments old boy.

  • For some reason I always seem to hear the grenadier guards playing Figaro.
