The Buster Sword that Cloud has at the beginning of FF7 belonged to Zack (and before that, Angeal.) This is a different sword (dubbed the First Tsurugi) that Cloud weilds during FF7: Advent Children after returning the Buster Sword to the location of Zack's death.

He returns it in order to mark Zack's grave, so to speak. Also, Cloud no longer needs the Buster Sword, as he has the First Tsurugi (although technically, he stops using the Buster Sword relatively early in FF7, as it's replaced by stronger weapons). In addition, the Buster Sword has apparently seen a lot of action, and is visibly worn and damaged by the time he lays it to rest.

this is from the movie of Final Fantasy:Advent Children. in the movie you don't always see it fully assembled but when it is full it's that thickness.

im not so sure im right on this but on the blade that sits on the front should have a peice that the 2 blades with teeth sit in and the whole thing should be closer together so it doesnt look like a whole bunch of swords connected it looks like 1

Realistically, that many blades is worse than just one. In fact, the sheer size of the weapon is too heavy to use effectively.

In real life, the best sword to use would be a small-medium sized katana. Any cut on a body would kill a person, and its easier to use a 5 pound sword rather than a 50 pound sword.....

but then that wouldnt be fun now, would it?
