Those who have never heard Bobby Bland have missed out on one of the best, his voice is impossible to describe without lapsing into seeming contradictions. For example, it's both smooth as silk and rough as sandpaper. It must be heard. Equally impressive, Bland always seem to have a deeply intuitive understanding of the songs he sings. (In a sane world, everyone would know Bobby Bland and his work.) ~peace
Its........blues time! Pure classic. Bobby "Blue" Bland is where it's at, brother!
I didn't grow up with the blues, Daddy's an old country fan (Cash, Snow, Reeves etc) & Mum's a classical freak. I listen to anything that turns me on. I'm thankful to my local college station for initiating to the music about 20 - 25 years ago, but I'm really thankful to every guy who has broken & stomped on my heart for allowing me to truly APPRECIATE the blues. Heart beats in time with the bass..
holey shlitz.... can U say Stevie Ray Vaughn. Now I know where and who he got his stylings from ... yesI know this is one many artists but this is scary close ... timing tone melody ... even the the riffs Carp unreal
Priceless! Sadly, blues is a forgotten art in American culture. A true art at the most basic level with a poignancy that is as piercing as a razor sharp blade.

PEACE !
Sir Walter Raleigh used to play this every morning at 7:15 on WAMO in Pittsburgh PA. I couldn't leave for school until I got my Bobby Blue Bland fix. Still sounds great to me!
Oh no. I can tell the difference between Ray Charles & Bobby "Blue" Bland. But I do sometimes confuse Bobby & BB King especially when they sing together.
I think Wayne Bennett's guitar playing is a "masterclass" although today it seems people need their blues guitar so turbocharged that it dominates rather than accentuates a performance. Everything about this recording is great, the rhythm section just nudging the song along while Bobby and Wayne rise and fall in sympathy with the core meaning of the lyrics. I am sure T-Bone loved this version.
A friend of mine is going to back Johnny Jones next year. There's a clip-"Johnny Jones and the Gibson ES-345 The bend of the string" on YouTube. He talks of his time with Bobby Bland and how Bobby gave him a tape of Wayne Bennett and Mel Brown to stop him string bending like BB and to "play across the board" to get that T Bone style sound which was what Bobby demanded!
My late father loved this man and what his music meant to the struggling southern Black community! I'm glad to have had the opportunity to know and cherish such great music! Live on, Bobby Blue! Live on!
I've been thinking about Bobby Bland lately. My parents played his songs while we traveled cross country. My fav song by Bobby is "Love To See You Smile". A beautiful song.
