There is one other solvent the fail to mention and that is Green Earth. It's a liquid silicone.. Most dry cleaners shy away from it because it's expensive.
Organic Dry Cleaning, although not all created equal is definitely not all a marketing ploy. I run Green Forest Organic Cleaners in West Windsor, NJ, and our methods truly are better for the patron, the environment, and our employees. I won't go into the entire process here, but anyone interested in learning more is certainly welcome to visit my website.
There is no such thing as organic dry cleaning. Sorry. Of the many different dry cleaning solvents out there, none are 100% environmentally safe. Nothing you use at home is 100% environmentally safe. If a cleaner claims that he is organic, he is only using a solvent that isn't perchlorethylene which is by far the best dry cleaning solvent. The problem is not the solvent. The problem is the un-educated dry cleaner. Modern day dry cleaners are simply business investors. Not skilled dry cleaners.
@mig189189189 In the 1930's it was not uncommon to do dry-cleaning at home by handwashing clothes in gasoline. Needless to say, this is was very dangerous.
