@ashyjedi Thank you for sharing your story regarding one of your pets. I really didn't want people to think I was crazy with putting Our Tigger on the bed so the others could understand that he had died. Our Vet thought it was a great thing we did for the other
cats (2) because they all were so close. Unless a person truly loves an animal, wild or domesticated, they will be missing out on so many levels of how much peace, comfort
@janetlw you're welcome. I think anyone who loves their pet and loves their other ones as well should do this. Allie passed away in her favorite spot by the fireplace with my mom and I around her. As soon as it happened Roxxy came over and the whole house was woken up to say goodbyes. Then we left her on her bed all night and the crematory man came int he morning to get her. I believe more people do this kind of stuff than you might think lol
After having some closure, both cats went to the side corners of the bed and quietly laid down.
So, afterwords they never cried out for Tigger. After we put down Happy, Tigger walked up & down the hall for four nights, CRYING for his best buddy, Happy. I firmly believe, as with the elephant or any other breed, that they too need closure. It was a very hard choice for us, with allowing the other cats to see him dead. However, it was the right thing to do.
@janetlw We did that with our animals when our dog Allie of 13 years died. Both cats and our boxer Roxxy all came up to her to say goodbye. Everyone was sad in the house and you could just tell that the animals were heartbroken over it especially Roxxy because Allie took her under her wing and passed down to her what she did for us throughout her life. It was definitely the right thing to do as you said. =]
I am sorry when I see a video, or hear a conversation that someone cannot understand the grief the animal experiences. It is 100% true. Several yrs ago, we put down our 21 yr siamese. We brought him home, took him right to our bed since that was his favorite spot. Having 2 other cats, I knew from experience that it was wrong to not allow the other cats see our Happy had died. I put Tigger down, called the 2 cats to the bed to slowly reach out to Tigger. For 15 min they smelled him-top to bottom.
People I am not quite sure why you are writing to Tara, the elephant in response to this video. I just hope its intended to be cathartic....
As for the "strange" pairing comments. To most of the animals in the animal kingdom, if an animal is not an instinctive predator/prey and if the creatures are natural "social" creatures, then such bonds can be very easily formed due to their natural inclinations to form social groups and partnerships. Dogs/cats, hippos/elephants, lions/man...it's natural.
@deanadeeNY Yes, that is a true statement. I watched a show on PBS telling the story
of how raccoons had adapted their life style for living in the cities - like right in our yards.
If you can see it, I believe you'll enjoy it. The city life raccoon actually will live longer than
ones that live in their wild. I live in Clearwater, Fl and we are seeing more & more coyotes moving into our neighborhoods. Pls bring your pets in at night.
Tara and Bella had a very special relationship, an inspiration to humans. My heart breaks for Tara. Someday Bella will be waiting for Tara on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge and they will be together again.
@dylanstegmanify NO...then you'll be potentially killing a mom or baby, and furthering the cycle of mourning and despair. It's the animal kingdom, stuff like this happens all the time, but we think it's special because these two were an odd pair. Don't kill to get revenge.
@dylanstegmanify That's the point, lol. If coyotes stop killing deer, the deer populations would increase significantly. Then, people would complain about deer overpopulation, and then hunters would have to go and shoot deer, like how they did in Ohio a few years ago. There is a balance in the animal kingdom, minus people, who upset the balance significantly. Also, how do you value one life over another, by choosing to hunt coyotes and not other forms of life? A life is a life. Just saying
@candybarrino And there is the concept of introducing species to new habitats, let's say for example an Elephant that probably knows the scent of Coyote from Bella's carcass, and at least a few of them may find their way into Tara's fenced in enclosure.
THIS BREAKS MY HEART, THANK GOD TARRA IS NOT IN A CIRCUS OR ZOO, THANK YOU ELEPHANT SANCTUARY... PERHAPS SOMEDAY YOU WILL RECONNECT OVER THE RAINBOW BRIDGE..
I am so very sorry to hear that Bella is gone and so missed by Tarra. The cost of love is often pain! I grieve with you Tarra and will remember the happy times you had with your sweet friend, Bella.
Tara, you're so kind and so sweet, so sorry that you loss such a dear friend. You both will see each other again one day. Such a beautiful friendship.
Such an amazing yet OH so heartbreaking story!! Thankfully Tarra has others like Shirley to support her. Animals should be seen for much more than what they can provide for us, we should see them as teachers in nature. Incredible creatures these girls are!!>.<Noni

I can't imagine how heart broken Tara was while carrying Bella to the barn. ='[
