Gaara was not insane after the chunin exams, because of Naruto, he learned to be nice to others. He pretty much got better and later in the anime, he became a sensei to Matsuri. And you can really tell, that over time he improved. ^^ Note:Matsuri is also in the manga, well a ninja who looks like her is in the Shippuden manga.When gaara wakes up again, theres a girl that says: Gaara is cool and mysterious or something like that.
