Where I agree this ain't pop, Amarath and Storyteller is pop/rock. Rest of the songs Nightwish has done after Anette came is like Nightwish should sound like. She sings decently well, I'm not complaining about that. BUT like it's said before, if she tries to sing Tarja's songs, she sounds worse. However, I think it's also vice versa: If Tarja tried to sing Anette's songs, she wouldn't sound that good as Anette.

really annoys me, Tarja didn't leave the band, she was kicked out. Anette has her own style in NW but for the 2 times i've seen anette sing live, she ruined most parts of the old songs. Tarja has an opera voice, which is used in symphonic metal more frequently, Anette on the other hand sings and ACTS in a very poppish way. If you watch some vids from their concerts you'll see it. Many people say it doesn't fit this type of music. You'll also see that other members of Nightwish are fine with Anette's behaviour. It makes them more oryginal(?) among the other symph metal bands. (I DO NOT SAY THAT ONLY THIS, they always were different in a good way, that's why I'm such a big fan;])
Madonna and Britney are pop singers, with popish little voices. Nightwish is a symphonic METAL bend, but with POP singer with tiny poppish voice. I don't give a F..K that Anette is a great person, lovely and charming, I am not her friend, I listen to their music, and frankly, without Tarja, it sounds like POP. I heard Anette live, and she sucked big time. I heard Tarja live, and she KICKED ASS! It's a shame that great band like this one became a poppish act because of one man's caprice....
Tarja is the highest ranking rock diva ever! That being said, I had dinner with these people in 2008 at PROG in Atlanta, and Annette Olzon is a beatiful person and I was amazed at her voice. Just look up and compare SIREN with each. Tarja's version is actually torturous! Annette's is right on and amazing. Super bands like Nightwish have to find ways to keep moving. Luckily, lightening struck them twice!

Sometimes I dont understand how can people judge so much Anette. Before she entered Nighwish, she just had some moths to prepare her voice. Oh Well, Tarja had like 10 years -.-. No one is judging Anette, but I agree with LadyPudrette666: this IS popish metal. DPP is not bad, but it's a bit boring. Anette is good singer, but not excellent as Tarja and her voice doesn't fit Nightwish. Tarja sings, Anette screams and she will never be able to sing the old songs well. Nightwish with Tarja had a specific style, but they don't have it anymore.

I like some of the new Nightwish songs with Annette, I personally prefer Tarja though. The only thing I hate is when Annette tries to sing the older Nightwish songs that Tarja did, because Annette FAILS at some of those pretty miserably. Dude... You don't get it... Tarja's voice made nightwish. If you put Anette in any band it would sound the same... If you put Tarja in any band it will sound like the Nightwish we love, the old Nightwish...
I am a new Nightwish fan idk much about them. But hearing Tarja, she sounds more opera-influenced which is not bad. Anette is kinda harder to pickhow shes influenced. Definitely not pop. You can still be Symphonic Metal without the Operatic Vocals. Good Example: Anorexia Nervosa. Symphonic Metal with grunt vocals. There's also use of choir and classical instruments.

Of course you're right. NW boys are selfish. It was 2 much of them 2 ask Tarja 2 tour around the world including Canada and Australia...it was 2 much for them 2 ask her 2 come 2 band rehearsals. Tarja is a great singer. She was great in NIghtwish, she is still great. Nightwish can go on without Tarja, as we all have seen and Tarja can continue her carieer without Nightwish. But Tarja has to admit, that Nightwish has given her so much. Anette gives something new to Nightwish. I understood that Tuomas was not looking for some Tarja clone, he was looking for something new. They found it. Anette was really brave to take Tarjas place. That shows real corrage! Good for her!

No one is judging Anette, but I agree with LadyPudrette666: this IS popish metal. DPP is not bad, but it's a bit boring. Anette is good singer, but not excellent as Tarja and her voice doesn't fit Nightwish. Tarja sings, Anette screams and she will never be able to sing the old songs well. Nightwish with Tarja had a specific style, but they don't have it anymore.

I like some of the new Nightwish songs with Annette, I personally prefer Tarja though. The only thing I hate is when Annette tries to sing the older Nightwish songs that Tarja did, because Annette FAILS at some of those pretty miserably. Doesn't mean she can't sing, she just has a different style. She is good in songs such as Amaranth and Bye Bye Beautiful.

I am a new Nightwish fan idk much about them. But hearing Tarja, she sounds more opera-influenced which is not bad. Anette is kinda harder to pickhow shes influenced. Definitely not pop. Both are great. I wouldnt imagine hearing Tarja singing Bye Bye Beautiful, and not because of the lyrics. but I wouldnt imagine hearing Anette (on recording) singin I Wish I had an Angel. Each singers music in Nightwish fits THEIR voice. So if new Nightwish sounds like evanescence then thats the voice anette has

Nightwish is the band that play "the pharaoh sails to orion", "the kinslayer", "wanderlust" not this crap in what toumas and anette have become the band. I don't hate Anette, I simply don't think she fits Nightwish, or at least, not the Nightwish I listen to since 1998! No matter what people say Anette's voice is pop, that nasal sound is pop and it's plain to see that she has a real hard time when she must hit high notes... she doesn't sings, she screams.

and another thing : just listen the way she's changing all the old nightwish songs...i know it's very nice and interesting to personalize a song but don't f.ckit that way...to many "pop notes" and variations in a simple verse...

Symphonic Metal is the combination of Heavy Metal and Classical Elements. THAT IS SYMPHONIC METAL. Not having a Soprano as a lead singer. If that were the case than Epica wouldn't be considered Symphonic Metal would they?
You can still be Symphonic Metal without the Operatic Vocals. Good Example: Anorexia Nervosa. Symphonic Metal with grunt vocals. There's also use of choir and classical instruments.

Another thing, Anette's voice is just high, doesn't mean it's pop. The lead singer from znowhite has just a high voice, if not higher and they were far from pop. More like Heavy Metal.

Tuomas even stated they didn't want to have an Operatic vocalist because they didn't want a carbon copy. Tarja is a good singer but she can be replaced, if any of you are a fan of opera I'm sure you've heard good singers if not better.

Раньше я очень любила Тарью...она так, нет, ТАК пела в первых альбомах Найтвиш...просто божественно...а потом, после "Once", она стала петь все менее эмоционально, все хуже и хуже...тот волшебный голос исчез...
а про ее сольные альбомы я вообще молчу...

I think that Anette (or at least Tuomas) must be ashamed because when Tarja leaved the band, lots of female singers wants the place, like Simone Simons (epica), Sharon den Adel(within temptation) , suzanne (female voice in Haggard)
I think that Tuomas just want to have a different voice (for me a bad voice, but it's my opinion) just for make Tarja.....a bit....jealous, or I don't know...

They don't really want to leave their own bands...but maybe.......I don't know...Nightwish is ( I mean, WAS) a good band and Simon and Sharon wanted to sing in...but Tuomas prefered a different (for me, a worse) voice...
I respect his choice but it's not Nightwish now, it something different. I will listen the next album (I want to do my opinion), but I think it will not be very.......special. We will see that

This video came terrible to me! Not because of Anette - I heard her last performances and she wasn't bad at all,but because of Madonna! qhy exactly did you have to put Madonna here? I can barely stand her!
As for Anette - I'm a Tarjaholic and I hated Anette maybe until last week but I heard some new LIVE's of her and she wasn't bad at all - if she continues singing this good I may stop not liking her at all and become a fan of her ^_^

Of course you're right. NW boys are selfish. It was 2 much of them 2 ask Tarja 2 tour around the world including Canada and Australia...it was 2 much for them 2 ask her 2 come 2 band rehearsals. Tarja is 100% right with wanting 2 ditch rehearsals and shows to go to the movies or because the venues were "too small" for her liking. OPEN YOUR EYES ALREADY! You hate Anette because she's now in NW and Tarja isnt. It's through Tarja's selfishness and ego that she's "walking alone in a winter storm"!

Oh very original :S Marco is in his 40s and still sounds amazing. Madonna is in her 50s and even though I'm not a huge fan of her singing she can still perform amazingly. Age has NOTHING to do with it. If you think it does, you're gonna miss out on a lot of great musical talent in your life time. ~cheers~

Tarja is a great singer. She was great in NIghtwish, she is still great. Nightwish can go on without Tarja, as we all have seen and Tarja can continue her carieer without Nightwish. But Tarja has to admit, that Nightwish has given her so much. Anette gives something new to Nightwish. I understood that Tuomas was not looking for some Tarja clone, he was looking for something new. They found it. Anette was really brave to take Tarjas place. That shows real corrage! Good for her!
