That's canonical babbling, a normal stage of language development. Not a sign of a genius, sorry. He may end up being one, but not because he is alternating vowel and consonant sounds (babbling) at 5 months. He is also mimicking you, babies do that even when they are newborns. :)
last week my 3 month old said "as part of a quantum fluctuation a singularity spontaniously inflated into a vast field comprising matter and energy in a constantly expanding fabric of space and time, causality also arising in the process, making a causitive agent not only unnecessary but impossible"....... naturaly, i was shocked
Your son is adorable, but from the video I don't think he's doing anything more then making sounds. I didn't clearly hear him say or do anything that indicated he was communicating. I was the same way with my son. We all are. He will start talking soon though! Then the trick is getting them to shut up!lol!
Not to burst your happy bubble but just because he said dad once doesn't mean he learned it. I know I guess all parents think their kids are super gifted. But I'm not a parent how could I know xD
Your baby isn't smart or cute sorry.

lol. According to my mother I said "Pass the cakes" at the dinner table at 8 months. Perhaps I could say single words like this at 5?

When I first read the description I thought it said, "extending a long line of Tolkien geniuses." Hah. Totten's probably not much worse ;).
