Ever since I was a little girl I alawys loved TV shows, movies, books about dragons. Then a few years ago I found out that my chinese zodiac sign was dragon.
I watched this movie when I was so young and it always stuck with me! I found it somewhat depressing though, it's great but the themes were a little disturbing for a young child.
So many children's stories put to film in the 80s speak of the death of imagination and a warning of what replaces it, logic and cold hard reason. They speak of the death of what has always inspired people in art and life, a good reason to keep watching this as an adult....
This movie was based on a book by British author Peter Dickinson in 1979. But it was non-fiction not a novel. I must say, the dragons looked very realistic in this movie.
@67nairb It was a VHS release in 1982, but there wasn't a theatrical release until 1986, so it must have gone to theatres when it hit the US. But I don't understand your reply to me: Did I say something wrong or were you just randomly informing me? lol :)
Wait this movie came out in 1982? Huh, shares the year with another all-time favorite of mine, though on opposite sides of the spectrum. For me this movie is nostalgia, magic, and every thing fantasy rolled into one. The other is psychological pants-crappingly scarey. I speak of John Carpenter's The Thing!
@dinomanj - Actually this movie never hit it big because it is too intellectual for American children - most kids cannot appreciate the conflict or understand and dialogue.
So i have been scouring the internet for this movie for DAYS. I kept seeing references to Flight of Dragons, but oddly enough the dragons weren't what I remembered from the movie and the cover of the movie is SOOO misleading!
So finally found out what movie and now i have to try to rent it later.....
I've watched this on VHS ... now I have this on CD ... still awesome ... and Melisande ... and James Earl Jones ... they're brilliant ... Anybody know who is sinning this song ??
This would make the ULTIMATE Skyrim overhaul mod.....

World of magic, enchantment and imagination or world of cold, feelingless science and logic? Tough choice, huh? NOT!
