This is really nice, Mr. Mcguin is still good after all these years. Interesting comment from "perchand", I thought I was seeing things, there IS an extra string on his guitar!, makes for a really pleasant distinctive sound.
I saw McGuinn in a small venue last spring in Irvington, NY. Going to see him again in April, Tarrytown, NY. There is no doubt that he is one of the alltime greats. Better than ever. If you have a chance to see his solo act do so before he is gone forever.
Not really. Maybe the slow 60ies feel is no longer apt. I like it fast as well... and the other is on the soundtrack. Tw great songs... the second almost a Simon & Garfunkel!
Anybody notice he's playing a SEVEN string gutiar? This was a custom deal that featured a doubled G string with one string an octave higher than the other. Between this gutiar, and his 12 string "RICK," were the origins of trademark signature sound that became the Byrds in the middle 1960's. Gene Clark was the father of the Byrds but I believe Roger McGuinn was the driving force behind their sound, their music and their success.
Roger McGuinn's legendary 12 string Rickenbacker and 7 string (with a doubled G string, one an octave higher) created the trademark signature sound that became the Byrds calling card. Gene Clark may have been the father of the Byrds but Roger McGuinn was the driving force that made the Byrds, IMHO, the greatest 60's group to ever come out of L.A.

Wow....This really takes me back! This album was one of my very favorites! Every song on it is a gem, esp. this first one.
I remember seeing Roger & The Byrds many years ago! Still has a great voice!
I got this link off a QUEEN site....not sure why it was there, but, thanks for the diversion! Now, back to my love, FREDDIE MERCURY - THE GOD OF ROCK - !!! Come and visit QUEEN sometime, you'll love them!!! FREDDIE is AMAZING!!!
But Roger's cool too! I'm glad to hear him again! Peace!
Crosby was nothing but a tremendous harmony singer. He wrote no memorable songs, and was not a good guitarist. He was famous because of his immature behavior, and his association with McGuinn and Stills Nash and Young.
I saw McGuinn in Durango, Colorado in 2003 and he did an amazing version of Eight Miles high on acoustic. He started finger picking Malaguena and then went right into the song.
I have learned that Ringo was right...."you have to PAY your dues if you REALLY want to sing the blues"...lol...just ask McGuinn...heck I thought he was dead...maybe some day Ill see him do this live. Wow what a great life...JESTERDAVE5472@ Twitter...
THIS IS THE BEST OUT THERE. All I wanted was for her to "get" this about me...and she couldnt. She refused to accept my love for both her and her beautiful adopted kids. I left my copy of this movie at her house when she drove me out. I gave her those beautiful lyrics....but she KNEW...I wasnt born to follow...the only thing scarey about me is that Im free...I hope they dont kill me when they find me...JESTERDAVE5472@ Twitter.
Saw him last night at the Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen,Va....he looked and sounded just the same ..two years after this vid...the man is a master on 6 and 12 string..and a great story teller too.
Great songs, great---if quick---performance. Also, I'm blown away by the sound of that Martin. That 7th string (octave on the G) gives a ton of brightness to the sound.
wow, thanks for pointing that out, i wondered why i was hearing a shade of 12 string on his guitar! 7 string martin, never seen one of those before! great sound.
by ear only I would also consider it's a double D-string, but if you take a close look you can see the pin in the 3rd position and in the headstock you have also 4 tuners on the higher side, so it must be the G-string.
ya think? As Terry Southern wrote the script, I'm not so sure. As he was a writer, and not a celebrity or actor, he drew on numerous ingredients to create memorable characters.
Yes, her name is Camilla....In fact I met her at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon where he was doing a concert....She was selling autographed CD's....Quite a nice lady.
Saw him in an airport in 1988, Miami; I said, "Mr. McGuinn," he turned, said, "Good to see you again" (LOL, he didn't know me, but he was naturally polite). Took all of 10 seconds, never forget it. Wish I shook his hand.
Fucking hell this is a fast version.. i wan't the slow one played at my funeral man.. haaaaa haaa he even talks fast in the middle when he's introducing the other lol... is he on speed or sumat he's fuckin flyin man
It's his song. I think maybe he should be allowed to make a new arrangement if he chooses, no? The song is almost 40 years old. Do you think he wants to play the same tempo and the same way every time?

@perchhand - It's a Martin 7 string guitar. The 7 string model provides an octave string for the G bass string.
