It sounds like you'll be on strike for a very long time until the WGA causes enough pain/loss of revenue to the studios. WGA needs some strong leadership to secure a foothold in webb based media that will eventually eclipse traditional films/tv. I hope you'll stick it out....the next opportunity will not follow anytime soon.
I'm stunned that anyone could think that the writers of shows receiving a fraction of a fraction of a picocent from their work while Producers (who, yes, deserve to profit, too) make an exorbitant sum several times the initial investment. There's no argument here, the writers deserve more than they get.

PS. Whats that about "rules"--you want the standard labor rules? Thats bull--no artist wants to be told to stop their creative process at 5pm on Friday.
Did I hear a "Cavemen" writer? Now thats one plus to this strike--no more Cavemen shows!

I am totally disgusted with both sides. So many workers are being hurt by this (crews etc...) They had all summer but couldnt reach an agreement. Whats worse is the WGA's game plan of going on strike after making sure to stock pile enough scripts to reach into the New yr.. duh
All I hear is "without us, the writers, there is nothing". Well in truth it is a team effort.
Get your facts straight. It was not the WGA's game plan to stockpile scripts. Stockpiling is what the STUDIOS try to do -- because they know that without scripts, without writers, they will have nothing to produce.

The writers see producers and execs making money and somehow think that they automatically deserve more money. Well... if they think they can do the job of the studio, be my guest. I guess when they put forth that effort, then they can deserve equal pay.
Wow. You say, "If they think they can do the job of the studio, be my guest." It's like you're saying that John Steinbeck couldn't have worked at a publishing house. I'd be willing to bet that John Steinbeck could have been a publisher. But I doubt his publisher could've written "The Grapes of Wrath."
No, all I am trying to point out is that different jobs dictate different pay - and the writers usually make less than the execs and producers. If the writers don't like this, they can always change their profession - or tack on a writer/producer credit. It's been done.
Athletes, more than writers, should "just be thankful" for what they do. Yet still, athletes get paid enormous amounts. Not hating on athletes, just putting things into perspective.
haha - you've never worked at a big company have you? You'd get listed as the inventor but the company would be the assignee. You'd probably get a nice one time bonus but that's all.

The money has to come from somewhere... and that somewhere is usually advertising. Prepare for MORE annoying advertising on DVDs and streamed internet tv shows. As if there weren't enough ads already. Soon there will be more ads then content - and the viewers will go elsewhere.
Speaking as one of the writers in the clip, I just wanna say thanks for your support gang! I especially dig the comments by ThelmaPickles! You rock!

Erm, as one of the writers in the video: thank you to all for your support. (Also, could I use the word "like" any more? E-frickin'-gads.)

No, that's a writer's ASSISTANT. One of those workers that you purportedly care about that's being hurt by the strike.

what morons. I design hardware so I "deserve" a cut of every router we sell? Maybe I should claim a fee for every packet switched! enjoy starving.

If you got a patent on your design, you would get a cut.

Yes, that's what big companies are allowed to do to talented people, that doesn't make it okay.
