As a native Spanish speaker it's funny for me to hear you say that the southern Brazilian accent sounds alot like Spanish because to me the southern Latinoamerican accents sound alot like Portugues even with the frequent use of ¨Vos¨ or in Portugues ¨Voce¨.

A Portuguese man living here in Ireland told me recently that the Portuguese can understand the Spanish much better than the Spanish can make out the Portuguese. Can this be a fact ? Maybe as you are Brazilian you are not though in a position to answer this ?

For them that want to learn portuguese, I recommend to learn it from Brazil. Alright, portuguese from Portugal is talked in a lot of countries, but you can talk with them using br portuguese, and, these days I was talking with an spanish man, I was speaking br portuguese and he in spanish, we talked a lot, br portuguese is very similar to spanish, you'll learn how to talk in portuguese and will be more easier to talk with anyone else that speak spanish.

Portuguese from Portugal is more European and classy.
The words ended in L and E do not change their sound to U and TCHI as the portuguese from Brasil does.
The word TU is used as the way Spanish use it. The french word QUE is written/read in the same form. The english word THE has almost the same sound as the original Portuguese word DA.
Anyway, the original Portuguese and Portuguese from Brasil are both excellent!
I've been wanting to learn Portuguese for a while, this helps me out a lot. Specially, understanding there are different ways of speaking it. I'm from El Salvador and even in that small country we speak different from other Salvadorans.
That's beautiful, I recently started learning European portuguese, and it's nice to understand a bit about brazilian portuguese, you have a beautiful acsent when speaking english. good work. Portuguese is definately the sexiest language in I know.

my aunt is from Brazil...i dont know what part she is from but when she is speaking English she puts more emphasis on her r's...like you were talking about...but i didnt pay attention to her r's when she would speak Portugese...ive been really wanting to learn how to pronounce certain word parts...i have a book called Portugese Phrases for Dummies...and they explained a word and they say to pronounce it like "oong"...and i forgot how my aunt said it..so..im having alot of trouble trying to learn
thank you for your comment. You can try to start to learn by watching some movies and listening to some music - that always helps. There is a channel here on YT called languagenow and you can certainly learn some sounds over there :D

So far you are the only person on youtube who is not boring when teaching portuguese. I like that you also talk about other stuff and dont just give basic stuff like "bom dia" and easy stuff like that because everyone else is just not intertaining at all and you talk about a lot of intresting useful things.

Hum, bem, gostei muito do seu vídeo, realmente é legal. Apesar de não ser fluente em inglês eu consigo entender tudo que você fale nessa língua. Acho muito legal o que você está fazendo, só não concordo com esse negócio de "sotaque". Eu sou cearense, e sinceramente é meio que uma coisa "esteriotipada". Garanto-lhe que, por exemplo, a grande minoria dos nordestinos falam com esse sotaque "idiota". Assim como a minoria dos baianos falam oom esse sotaque arrastado. Tá aí meu desabafo.
Fico contente que voce tenha gostado da aula e peço desculpas pelo esteriotipo representado aqui. Mas como algumas pessoas nunca ouviram falar de sotaques dentro do Brasil, acredito que esses sotaques exagerados ajudam a identificar as regiões. Claro que nem todos falam assim, mas nao deixa de ser uma caracteristica da regiao...

Thanks for those accent examples. Most of the Portuguese I've learned sounds like "carioca" speech because most of the music and films from Brazil available in America come from Rio!
One of the first Brazilian albums I listened to was Gilberto Gil's "Refazenda" and he had a song called - "Lamento Sertanejo" on it. Then I remembered he was from the "sertao" himself, right?
Wow, you notice even carioca accents! They are hard to miss, huh? (giggles) Well, first: yes, most of the movies are in carioca accent, but not all. Carioca accents do stand out because it is so strong most of the time...
Stashfasisgod, Gilberto Gil is from the capital of Bahia, the city called "Salvador". The "Sertão" is a big area of dry weather spread throughout many northeast states of Brasil, like Bahia. To listen to a music from the "Sertão", search in youtube: "luiz gonzaga rei baião"
You mentioned that Brazialian Portuguese is influenced by the indigenous languages. English has word pairs such as sheep/mutton in which an animal is referred to by a word derived from German and the food from that animal by a word derived from French. Mexican Spanish has the pair guajalote/pavo, the turkey in the barntard is in Nahuatl and the cooked turkey is in Spanish. Does Brazilian Portugese have similar word pairs?
absolutly yes! it is amazing how the languages are entwiened (is this a word?) by common words and meanings. We do have a lot of latin, frech, italian and spanish, a majos influence for sure. That was a great observation, thanks for your comment! :)

Eu também acho que as diferenças entre as línguas portuguesas faladas em partes do mundo são ricas e ajudam a descobrir a raiz de expressões e palavras...valeu pelo elogio no sotaque, tentei fazer algo suave para não ficar caricato...e sim, é da região de Pernambuco :)

Well, if your mother can help you out with your native language, it will definetly help when you do learn portuguese (especially with verbs) plus i guess your mom will be happy ;) But maybe you can choose the language by checking out a little of both and see which one you find it easier to learn :)

If you want to speak like a native from Rio de Janeiro always say Oxente(oh-shen-teh) before anything you say.... It sounds cool,believe me.
Example: Oxente bichim,onde e o rela rela?? (Where's the club,please?)
Or : Oh meu rei.....Vou pro meu pai de santo! ( Hi, I'm going to the church)

my aunt is from Brazil...i dont know what part she is from but when she is speaking English she puts more emphasis on her r's...like you were talking about...but i didnt pay attention to her r's when she would speak Portugese...ive been really wanting to learn how to pronounce certain word parts...i have a book called Portugese Phrases for Dummies...and they explained a word and they say to pronounce it like "oong"...and i forgot how my aunt said it..so..im having alot of trouble trying to learn

thank you for your comment. You can try to start to learn by watching some movies and listening to some music - that always helps. There is a channel here on YT called languagenow and you can certainly learn some sounds over there :D

hahaha a imitação do sotaque "nordestino" ficou muito boa no contexto geral, pode crer. Claro que em cada lugar em que você for pode-se notar variações, até mesmo dentro do próprio estado, como é em SP também :D

So far you are the only person on youtube who is not boring when teaching portuguese. I like that you also talk about other stuff and dont just give basic stuff like "bom dia" and easy stuff like that because everyone else is just not intertaining at all and you talk about a lot of intresting useful things.

Ah, e já que você tira dúvidas aí, que tal tirar dúvidas dos brasileiros que querem aprender inglês? :p Uma dúvida que me persegue, e acho que a "99%" dos brasileiros é esse maldito som do "TH". Por exemplo, em "THE" THOSE" "THAT" às vezes soa como "DÉT" às vezes como algo próximo a "dzét". Não entendo, se puder, dá essa força aí, agradeço. Sayonara!

Hum, bem, gostei muito do seu vídeo, realmente é legal. Apesar de não ser fluente em inglês eu consigo entender tudo que você fale nessa língua. Acho muito legal o que você está fazendo, só não concordo com esse negócio de "sotaque". Eu sou cearense, e sinceramente é meio que uma coisa "esteriotipada". Garanto-lhe que, por exemplo, a grande minoria dos nordestinos falam com esse sotaque "idiota". Assim como a minoria dos baianos falam oom esse sotaque arrastado. Tá aí meu desabafo.

Mas como algumas pessoas nunca ouviram falar de sotaques dentro do Brasil, acredito que esses sotaques exagerados ajudam a identificar as regiões. Claro que nem todos falam assim, mas nao deixa de ser uma caracteristica da regiao...

muito obrigada. i m from goa india and this was a portuguese colony till 1961/my parents learnt and speak fluent portuguese but i studied in english and i wish to learn that language. some people speak that portuguese here and i get lost in their midst. thanks for your lessons

Thanks for those accent examples. Most of the Portuguese I've learned sounds like "carioca" speech because most of the music and films from Brazil available in America come from Rio!
One of the first Brazilian albums I listened to was Gilberto Gil's "Refazenda" and he had a song called - "Lamento Sertanejo" on it. Then I remembered he was from the "sertao" himself, right?
Bahia is considered the "sertao" then?

Stashfasisgod, Gilberto Gil is from the capital of Bahia, the city called "Salvador". The "Sertão" is a big area of dry weather spread throughout many northeast states of Brasil, like Bahia. To listen to a music from the "Sertão", search in youtube: "luiz gonzaga rei baião"

You mentioned that Brazialian Portuguese is influenced by the indigenous languages. English has word pairs such as sheep/mutton in which an animal is referred to by a word derived from German and the food from that animal by a word derived from French. Mexican Spanish has the pair guajalote/pavo, the turkey in the barntard is in Nahuatl and the cooked turkey is in Spanish. Does Brazilian Portugese have similar word pairs?

absolutly yes! it is amazing how the languages are entwiened (is this a word?) by common words and meanings. We do have a lot of latin, frech, italian and spanish, a majos influence for sure. That was a great observation, thanks for your comment! :)

[2] Parece-me que, em Angola, Cabo Verde, ..., o Português se alinha com o de Portugal. De qualquer maneira, na minha modesta opinião, todos esses fatos e diferenças "só" contribuem para o enriquecimento da Língua Portuguesa.
P.S.: só um "trouxa" se sentiria ofendido com sua "simulação de sotaques" (ficou bom; o nordestino, se ouvi direito, é de Pernambuco). :)

Eu também acho que as diferenças entre as línguas portuguesas faladas em partes do mundo são ricas e ajudam a descobrir a raiz de expressões e palavras...valeu pelo elogio no sotaque, tentei fazer algo suave para não ficar caricato...e sim, é da região de Pernambuco :)

Well, if your mother can help you out with your native language, it will definetly help when you do learn portuguese (especially with verbs) plus i guess your mom will be happy ;) But maybe you can choose the language by checking out a little of both and see which one you find it easier to learn :)
