no but OHIO STATE..... I am sick and tired of assholes saying we shouldn't research robotics because of unemployment......... I am sure that the asshole who said that we would all be obsolete will support his case. hey snugsaltynutyz do you believe that robotics are bad in any way???
No not at all. Don't get me wrong I optimistic about the future of robotics. I do however worry about the psychological/physical repercussions of becoming more sedentary do to our technology. Our technology is growing faster than our ability to adapt to it. Our technology is sky rocketing while our psychology is still very much in a hunter/ gatherer state.
it wont make us obsolete, look at it in the way most modern advancements are helpful today, they make life easier to do more important things that will further ourselves as a race. Things like space travel, medical advancements, furthering our intellectual abilities ect
I don't want to argue how many people the world can support. There are 6.7 billion people on the world now. You use the world "easily". That's interesting, since we're not feeding everyone now. So you'll concede the point that we need some better ideas. Stifling technology so we can have more low-paying jobs doesn't seem like the right road to me.
the world is fat. to be sure some people starve but only because they live in areas of the planet with little people and little food. you find the food concentrated where the most people concentrate.
you have to look at population density maps to see it thought.
I don't think this is very good at all. We don't need robots and the hundred of thousands of people who already lost they're jobs don't need robots taking away more chances for them to get a new one. Technologie is fine but trying to make something to replace the human race is only going to cause us problems in the long run.
Wrong, it will cause problems for us in the SHORT-run, while freeing us in the long run to figure things out, like how to control human overpopulation.
because crime is in numbers...how the hell is a government going to run the lives of 20 billion people? how are you going to run a democracy with that many people? and if 80 billion people existed the world's oil would run out in a matter of minutes. so nice try.

Robots are basically advanced computers with bodies. They more efficient and accurate than humans but less creative. Ultimately we can have them do anything for us. Especially dangerous things. This is good stuff. hooray!
Robotics wil destroy to our world. Any progression in technology is a catatstrophe as long as we do not capture and kill the elite and end the constat threat to our existence: The hegemony of stone age ethics (war, weapons industry, consumism, starvation, money, banking, capitalism). To not understand this is awkward ahistorical ignorance.
That's not true advancements in technology always enhance human possibilities the good and bad comes from people not the technology. Technology is what made it possible for me to watch this and type this.
Technology is a broad concept that deals with human as well as other animal species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment.
So much for the definition of technology, as your comment is hard to understand due to false punktuation and in one meaning you actually seem to create your own definition.
Technology gives people the possibility to kill more and more people. This is so obvious. There were no world wars when you had to kick your enemy to death. To ignore the system and how it accelerates as a death machine through the enhancement of efficiency with this abstractions is pitiful. "Nukes aren't good nor bad." BS!
u say, "robots will destroy our world" and then accuse me of "illogical ranting!?" wow! rofl that is awesome! can you say, "ironic egotistical hypocrisy?"

The prospect of a robotic army to subdue the public in a surveillance state is a qualitative one. The appreciation of technotoys for a minority of affluent chauvinists is a quantitative one. You try to balance a qualitative category against a quantitative category. Ridiculous.
A concept is valid or invalid, the source is irrelevant.
To not grasp the significance of cultural prophecy and even use it to justify ignorance is awkward. "Uh, there is no Patriot Act, you've read too much 1984".
you completely misunderstood my mockery of your "robots will destroy the world" comment.
i'm not saying your delusional because you've seen too many terminator movies.
i'm saying it's delusional because you state as fact a future event that can't be factually known. your terminator over-viewing may have just provided context.
adding to my sense of your delusion is how you insert & misuse random irrelevant concepts like qualitative, quantitative and chauvinism
"Technology gives people the possibility to kill more and more people"
It also improves the lives of many people too.
So what should we do then?...not move forward for the fear that we will wipe ourselves out? If that's the case then surely your argument would mean we would all be better off still using bones as tools...oh and that includes the computer you're using now to state your argument.
We can't hold back our advancement for fear of what other madmen might do. Hopefully we will also advance in our sensiblilties too.
But to knock technology while at that same time using the very thing ur knocking is just hypocritical. No one is forcing you to live in a technoligical society. You have the choice and ability to opt out and leave it all behind and go and live in a forest.
guess what? If we have robots doing all of our jobs, nobody will have a job, and nobody will get paid. Ergo, we're all gonna be poor cause robots are replacing us.
its a pretty safe bet that wont happen. think about it, why do companies use job replacing robots: to cut costs. and why do they cut costs? to make cheaper products? and why do they want cheaper products? so more PEOPLE will buy them. it defeats the purpose to significantly destroy the human work. more robots just means more people are required to have a higher level of education, and stop dropping out of highschool.
This may sound weird, but the way I look at is that the more humans make AI smarter and smarter... We are removing ourselves (the human race) from the equation of life. See, We may have get smart robots to build the other smart robots, and there would be no need for office workers since we'll have robots to do that work for us... I don't know, it may likely never happen, but I am envisioning a human less world filled with self-supportive robots...
Viruses are typically made to make money. Very few homicidal people have that kind of technical skill. The real fear is how they'll be used by governments and the wars they create with them.
No, if you could read 3 sentences properly you'd see I said "very few homicidal people." It's like how some people have trouble reading, like you, yet there are still some people that can.
You are the one that needs to learn how to read, and you need to learn some English comprehension skills as well. You said:
"Very few homicidal people have that kind of technical skill."
You're assuming that the majority of people who murder, can not/won't attain the technical skill to create robotic software that would kill people. And that is asinine.
And NO most viruses aren't made to make money, you know nothing.
Yes, I think crazy people are rare. And yes, I think crazy people that are patient enough, and intelligent enough, to develop such skills are even more rare.
What are most viruses made for then? 2 createz teh globalz khaoz?
yeah because people have jobs where they just carry other people on their back right? And noone has a job to make trains or pays to ride on a train right? Your logic is the same as pre-schoolers.
They did thousands, even hundreds of years ago. All transports took huge caravans of your prized employees.
And who do you think will make robots? And when robots make themselves, what will they do once they're made? They will make things for humans. What do humans work for? Things. But if robots make them, things will cost nothing because robots work for nothing.
People like you have no understanding or economics or economic history. Infinite advancement = infinite standard of living increase
yeah and some things humans can't do like go at a speed even close to the speed of a train, with animals. technology is more important than these little caravans you seem to think we should be using nowadays
I'm not the one advocating we use caravans, which is your position: that technology doesn't improve the quality of life.
I'm sorry, originally I thought you were less than literate, but possibly partially intelligent. Clearly, you've proven that wrong, because you think you're advocating my position and that I'm advocating yours.
While it may not improve quality of life, it does improve standard of living. Technology of trains and engines greatly improve our standard of living, not quality of life.
Wait, so you're saying improving the standard of living doesn't improve our quality of life? Like if I had to work 10 hours less a week to get basic necessities, my quality of life hasn't improved? That me being able to spend more time in my life -- more of my needs being met more easily -- any way that I wanted, that my quality of life wouldn't improve? I don't see how our quality of life would decrease.
I think that they are mutually exclusive for the most part. However, I could understand an argument made for having robots to give us more time to do things while they clean, cook, transport us (although some enjoy cleaning and cooking and driving long distances)... which may result in more happiness. meh, interesting idea.
give everyone what they want if we have robots doing everything for us everything should litterly be free build robots to fix teh other robots and so on
:P nice dream but in this world that will never happen
Careful using microsoft software on there, you might experience "crashes", "hangs" and the odd hacker hacking into them and doing some pretty nasty stuff using it...
i dont think making robots that will get the remote for ppl or something like tht will be a good idea. if that happens and keeps up, it will create a lazier generation :/

HymerSchmidt 2 years ago
While it may not improve quality of life, it does improve standard of living. Technology of trains and engines greatly improve our standard of living, not quality of life.
bankitdrew 2 years ago

Careful using microsoft software on there, you might experience "crashes", "hangs" and the odd hacker hacking into them and doing some pretty nasty stuff using it...
