do you know if i would be able to get a decent electric violin in the range of 30- 100 dollars cause im strap for cash at the moment and i really want one
The only way that you will be able to get a decent sound from an electric instrument in that price range is to attach a pickup to your acoustic. Check out the Kremona pickup that's being offered from Electric Violin Shop. It's a decent pickup for a great price. A good electric violin is going to cost much more than $100, unfortunately.
Hey, I want to buy and electric violin so I can practice playing without making too much noise. When played without an amp does it make a lot of noise? And does the shape of the body matter when it comes to the volume? (I will buy an amp aswell but I m just interested in how much noise the thing makes without an amp)
Hi. Go ahead and buy an electric. Are you thinking of buying an EVL? If so, the noise produced b the instrument is very quiet, so you don't have to worry about waking anyone up. The shape of the body definitely makes a difference in the sound, but both standard EVL body shapes will be very quiet indeed.
Don't know about any amp modelers, but a good acoustic amp will do fine. In this video I'm using a Roland Microcube on the JC Clean setting. Hope that helps? ;)
That's just the way that my bow hold is. I don' t play in the classical style much, so I've abandoned the classical bow-hold in favor of something that more suits my playing style.
By having my hand that far up the bow my hand is closer to the balancing point therefore allowing me to make fast passages a bit easier, among other advantages. :)
This sounds amazing! I read in a previous post that you could right up the notes...if it wouldn't be too much to ask...could you make me a copy? If you need to go out of your way I don't mind if you can't get me a copy...I just thought I'd ask!
the Microcube offers VERY basic effects: Delay, Reverb (on their own dial), Phaser, Flanger, Chorus, Tremolo (on their own dial), and then a bunch of amp models, which is where you should look for a clean violin sound. It's super easy to use and gives a GREAT sound with the violin.
Any more questions, feel free to PM me or something. I'm always willing to help.
Thankyou, Is the microcube an amplifier you would recommend over say an 'acoustic' one. For a bit extra, one can add the effects with a pedal. I'm a complete novice, I dunno if that would be better for the price.
1: The violin is a tough instrument, and people know that, messing up is no big deal!!!
2: Take your time, don't rush it like a robot, let it flow. Long bowstrokes, big vibrato, expressive face!!! That's a trade secret, people like it when you look passionate.
3: Don't beat yourself up, most people wouldn't have the courage to do that in front of a crowd themselves, so they will acknowledge your courage for just that!!!
ok im 14 and i've been playing violin for nine years (i started when i was five) anyhow, i you could tell me how much your electric violin costs that would be great i love it's sound and im looking into buying one. By the way i loved it you did a great job!
It kind of depends on the sound you want. I personally don't use a preamp, because the Schatten Pickup pushes the sound enough, however, for the Yamaha, I would probably use one. It's hard to say for sure. Amps are all different, and each of the Yamaha's have a built in preamp, but sometimes that's not enough. So, really, that's up to you. A preamp will soften the sound.
Hey, it's cool that you're from Peru, my Mom owns land near Iquitos! Actually, she's selling it, but... :)
Hey Vicki... I've been playing the violin for ten years... There is no right and wrong, only what works and what doesn't. Fiddlers hold the bow different than classical players. Charlie Daniels is still a fiddler, and often holds the bow with only two fingers. Different (bow) strokes for different folks. So, please, if you want to talk right and wrong, be more specific about who's right and who's wrong.
I always say that those who focus more on technique and less on soul are bad musicians.
And besides... have you ever seen a video of Perlman playing? He takes the fourth finger off the bow often when he plays... and it's hard to beat him, in every way possible.
If this isn't played in heaven when I get there and as soulfully as you do it...I'm gonna whine!!! Beautifully rendition...thank you so much!! God bless you!!
Thanks, the violin is a very good instrument. I picked it up in 4th grade... so that's about ten years ago... and I'm still not as good as I could be... I almost gave it up, but I saw Boyd Tinsley (Dave Matthews Band) and I was reinspired. So, it's an instrument that you can't give up on if you decide to learn it.
Yeah, I got mine with Classic body, schatten pickup, five strings, and custom tuners. The yamaha violins don't sound that good at all, to me. Especially the EV series. That's pretty crazy though, about them opening your case. I wondered what it would have looked like in green, I thought about that color.
I also have a 5 string EVL viola/violin and I am really happy with it. Bought it 4 years ago :). What kind of amplifier (hope thats the right word but I am kinda dutch) do you use? Now I have a base gitar one because the sound is much fuller then. What colour is your violin?
I'm glad there's someone else who has one! It seems as though they're few and far between, maybe everyone's buying ZETA's?
Mine is only a year old, as of April. Here I'm using a Roland Microcube, it gives a real full sound (for a guitar amp) to the violin and it's got built in effects (even though I don't use them often). I've heard good and bad about bass amps...
I got mine built with mandolin tuners and straight blue finish...
I have the standard classic body in dark green with sunburst. I tried every amplifier but now I have Hartke Kickback . My EVL sounds better than a Yamaha so I am really pleased with it but I am the only one in the Netherlands owning one and especially a five string one. It was a gamble to buy one because I didnt know the company but everything went great. Only problem was getting it shipped to the Netherlands because it was just after 9-11 so they opened my case 3 times :p.
I'm not big on following exact technique... as long as the sound comes out and it comes out with passion, it's good as far as I'm concerned. I also don't consider myself a classical violinist, although I am formally trained classically.
Awesome job man. Maybe you'd be able to help me. I also have an electric violin, but I'm having trouble getting it to sound decent. I have a digitech rp50 effects pedal (i'm still very new to electric instruments). Could you maybe suggest some settings or things to try with it? I'd like to be able to get a sound similar to yours, and also maybe one that sounds similar to a guitar. You can check out my videos to see what I've managed so far.
This depends on the instrument. I payed a fair amount for mine, and I'm quite satisfied. What brand is your instrument? I can't tell the brand, but it looks to be a five or six string?
Heh actually I don't even remember what brand my violin is because it's basically just a cheap imitation of a Zeta that I got off ebay. You're right, it's a 5 string. Oh and I meant to say electric guitar instead of just guitar. So basically I just need to learn about distortions I guess. I think I just need to spend some time playing around with it until I get the kind of sound I like. Thanks
Then, I have to assume it's a planet violin. You will get a better sound if you have a good instrument. Distortion is easy, play a little bit with the gain and different amp models, then add some reverb or delay and you will be on your way. You can see my favorite type of distortion on my Cooley's Reel vid. I used a huge delay to get a real crazy effect. When I'm playing for an acoustical sound like the one in this vid, I just add some reverb.
