this game had some pretty awesome levels, Gradius V's levels weren't that awesome. Gradius 3 had Sand world, water world, maui world, plant world, rock world, fire world, and it was fucking awesome.
@peppercarnage The grid is a screen alignment grid used in most arcade machines to make sure the monitor isn't out of alignment and that all screen elements would be displayed properly, since score counters and status displays were often located in the extreme upper and lower portions of the screen. I guess Konami threw in the grid for this game to let you check your own television set at home for the same purpose.
Would be a cool intro...
...if UN Squadron's hadn't been 10 times better.
