  • I like your videos I think this is the closest I'm going to get to visiting ATL....

I like their roads, it looks like they keep them up so unlike California...

  • @opinionated99 Thank you, please check out my much better quality HD videos of Atlanta.

  • I really like the songs that you put on the videos.

  • @chapman3475 Thank you, I appreciate that!

  • I am going there next week..first time

  • @drunkinpainter666 That's not a bridge to nowhere, it's an overpass carrying a ramp from GA-120 to I-85, it was a designed part of the project.

  • Wow, those are some smooth roads. The roads here in the Bay Area are full of bumps and hitches.

  • @pk4062 I just said the same thing, I'm from the Bay Area but I live in Sac and its no better here!

  • Hey freeway I really love your videos of the atlanta area. I really love the Freeway system down there it make driving so much fun.

  • @LorenzoMoore1000: Thanks, yeah ATL has a really good system, HOT lanes may be on the horizon too.

  • Wow that's like an everyday video of my driving life, I'm always up and down that road

  • GA 120 I Miss Ya..wud trade a lot to move back

  • if you stop were the video is at 1:07 i live down the road i live in the reserves of sugerloag cause thats sugerloaf road

  • Hey were moving to the Duluth area from Denver and I hear that The Reserves Of Sugarloaf are really nice (upscale) and have low crime... I'd love to hear your opinion. Please let me know. Thank you.

  • I use this interchange at least twice a month. :o)

  • Colector/Distrib. Lanes, aka "Local" lanes.

I've seen these on the 401 in Toronto, the 1/9 and the Turnpike in Jersey, the 271 in Cleveland, and maybe on the 35W in Minneapolis. They must've done this to Atlanta's roads just in recent years.

  • Atlanta has some really nice looking roads.

  • ^^agree

  • Thanks for showing that spectacular I-85 /316 interchange. A lot of new bridges and curves and turns. I'm sure it took close to 3 years like the other Atlanta interchanges in 1985-1986 and the high flyover bridges.

  • What should that with the HOV? Whats the difference between 1 or 2 people in the car and whats the punishment? I heared these days about a driver with a doll as a passenger at the HOV.

  • Comment removed

  • Sheesh, what is honestly with the copyright police as of late? Sad the song for this video is now muted, all thanks to them...

  • I am going to rebel against them! I'll put headphones on and listen to music while I'm watching the video. That's rebelling...somehow...

  • Amen brother!

  • With today's technology the "middleman" (Who has always been a parasite) is really unnecessary - let us download and purchase music directly from the artist(s)!

  • I would also like to see New York City, the big apple! It would be awesome! Could you do it?

  • Also, what happened to all your old videos? I remember Chicago, Cincinnati, NYC and spaghetti junction!

  • They are there, 113 videos strong.

  • Too many restrictions in NYC, not the place to ride around with a Camera.

  • How about Seattle?

  • It's a matter of going there, you know; time, money.

  • is there actually some kind of law against videotaping while driving?

  • Not that I am aware of.

I'm not touching the camera at all, I just turn it on, hit record and let 'er rip until I'm done, then it's one button to stop recording.

  • i was actually replying as to your comment saying there are too many restrictions in NYC, not a place to be riding around with a camera.

  • All Triborough Bridge-Tunnel Authority facilities have signs restricting the use of cameras.

I'm not sure how the general public would react to seeing me ride around with a camera either.

  • I would love to see Memphis!!!

  • This is by far one of the best upgrades they did in Georgia. Asside from GA 400's upgrades, this has REALLY helped out ALOT.

They're also going to be converting SR 20 and a few other streets into Interchanges with Exits along GA 316.

The bad thing about 316 is about 5 miles after I-85, It becomes an At-Grade road but the speed limit is still 65 MPH with traffic lights. It's EXTREMELY dangerous even with extended yellows. When it was biult, it was intent on being much like an interstate.

  • I've always wondered why GDOT has never upgraded 316 east of the 316/I-85 interchange, and still has many at-grade intersections. Do you or freewayjim by any chance have any idea when work is ever going to begin that may make 316 finally meet interstate standards, or at least reduce many of the at-grade intersections?

  • It was supposed to be upgraded to a Toll Road with no at-grade intersections but that got killed some time back. There are no plans to upgrade it that I am aware of.

  • OK then, that explains the fact that many of the at-grade sections exist. Didn't realize GDOT killed their plans to upgrade it to a toll road, and that's too bad to hear this is what occurred in the end.

  • Basically what happened was GA passed a law prohibiting the conversion of any state routes to tollroads. Technically they can still biuld a new Tollroad 316 and it's free lanes would have to remain. There ARE however still plans of converting it to a freeway.

Beggining in 2009, The first two At-Grade intersections (Collins Hill Rd, and SR 20/SR 124) will be upgraded into overpasses with on/off ramps. Also the Sugarloaf Pkwy extension will also have a cloverleaf with 316. Hope this helps

  • Thanks for explaining this, Need4Camaro. I didn't realize all these upgrades you mentioned were planned for 316!

  • Anytime. Basically when 316 was biult, it was planned to be a full freeway from I-85 to Athens. After they passed SR 120 in Lawrenceville however they ran out of money so the remaining intersections had to be biult at-grade to conserve money. This is why the speed limit on 316 is just as high as I-85 in the rural areas and the median is so wide. The interchange is this video, upon its first completion in the 1960's, the first day they opened it there was a fatal wreck from the left hand merge.

  • There still are. For the first 8 miles after SR-120 in Lawrenceville, they are going to upgrade traffic intersections into interchanges. Also Sugarloaf Pkwy is going to come back around to 316 and intersect it as a Freeway just east of Lawrenceville. They will biuld a cloverleaf there and extend Sugarloaf Pkwy as a freeway all the way to the Mall of GA.

  • Nice drive, except for the usual left lane hoggers you see on American freeways.

  • Nice drive, Jim.

    Very high quality image.

Just curious...what size and format do you render your videos in?

  • Thank You, The videos are shot/edited at 720x480 and FCP format in Final Cut Express 4, youtube does a real number on the quality :P

  • I like the music with with video. excellent

  • Only complaint I have about that interchange is that u CANNOT get to pleasant hill unless ur coming off of 316. Unless I missed something. I used to live down there. But its very nice. GA is pretty good at making interchanges, but they need to drop the highway attitude. Cant live without a car

  • Not true. You can get to pleasant hill from I-85 South, the exit is about 2 miles farther back than it used to be (before 316) as it's now part of the C/D network. Watch the videos closely on the I-85 south sections.

Drop the highway attitude you say? right or wrong, most people in the suburbs don't want anything to do with MARTA. Atlanta, like most sunbelt cities is driven by sprawl, that's just the way it is.

  • Thats what I mean. You cant access Pleasant Hill in a traditional manner. Its much to far up if you arent coming from that direction.

  • The signs are there a mile ahead of the exit and it's much safer by way of eliminating weaving with the new 316 traffic coming in on the right as opposed to the old configuration where it came in on the left.

The new interchange made everything light years better in terms of safety and accessibility all the way around IMO.

  • Oh yes, I KNOW it improved that. I hated going either direction during the rush HOURS of GA. So yes it did that very well. But I'll leave it at that

  • Superb video once again! I look forward to driving through this next week!

  • Have you been on I-675? Go on it fron end to end!!!

  • I've done that many times.

  • I have a video on my page that has a partial visual of I-675 in Clayton County, Georgia. The video is entitled "Panola Road & I-75/675."

  • I was talking to FreewayJim. You should have a video of it.

  • I know you were talking to him. I was just saying that I have a partial video of it (I-675).

  • i love you're videos! Keep 'em rolling! I had many videos of various interstates, US and state routes but wal ma*t forced me to delete them.

  • Good job, as always. :)

  • Drive through Atlanta last Sunday right under the Spaghetti bowl on I75. It was pretty awesome to see even at night.

  • its beautiful

  • Beat me to it, man. I was going to do a video of this (lol). I probably still will do one, though.

  • Wow, that interchange has really come a long way from how I once remembered it to be like. I last went through the 85/316 interchange in early 2008, while some parts of it were still under construction.

Great video, as always! Seeing the extent of the collector/distributor lanes was my favorite part of this video. Hopefully one day, GDOT will upgrade 316 east of the 85/316 interchange, as I see beyond this interchange that 316 is still in its 1960s form! :)

  • That was pretty durn cool.

  • Awesome!
